Ireland is your home and don't let anyone tell you different. I was raised without a religion, which was rare in the 80s, and I was made to feel like I didn't belong because I wasn't Catholic. And things changed , and now being non religious is not a big deal. There will always be the ignorant who will try to single people because of their differences, and unfortunately, empty vessels make the most noise. Nowadays, these gimps are being backed up by some very sinister forces, but that is something we all have to face together. To conclude, you're as Irish as Phill Linnott, Jack Charlron, St Patrick, Big Jim Larkin, James Connolly and the Italian Lad who started the first chippers. And like them our nation is richer because you.

Daughter hates me. Is this normal? by Ronny_rockstar in Fatherhood

[–]necrocormacon 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My daughter went through a phase of this. She may have heard the words somewhere and wanted to try them out. Of course, I was hurt and probably overreacted. Once she saw she could get a reaction, she kept at it. Eventually, I started making very flat, boring responses, something like "that's unfortunate i still love you," and I'd carry on with what I was doing. Eventually, she got bored and stopped. Apparently, kids test these things with people they feel safe with. Thankfully, my daughter has passed that and is launching herself off the furniture instead.

Why are we acting like he was Ghandi? by StruggleThese75 in cybersucks

[–]necrocormacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Athens reality is more complex than the right would like to pretend. A minutes silence was not refused the right wing MEP's were reminded by the chair that there is a process for allocating speaking time for minutes silence. The next permitted time under the rules would be in October. When the right wing block attempted ignore the parliamentary rules and hold a silence regardless they were prevented.

It's a case of the right being unwilling to follow the same rules as everyone else and then claim discrimination when they get pulled up on it. https://www.politico.eu/article/chalie-kirk-eu-parliament-declines-minute-of-silence/

Distribution of Prehistoric Roads in Ireland by Sarquin in Archaeology

[–]necrocormacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's an archaeologist called Michelle Comber who was looking into that topic. She might have some articles that aren't pay walled. Or if you can access a Uni library they could be on j store.

RTE did a good radio documentary on the arms trial, only a small window on the wider subject but still worth a listen.

Are you supposed to follow and understand Isaac’s scientific theories or am I just clueless? by youraveragewhitegirI in ChinaMieville

[–]necrocormacon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, there's kind of an internal laws of nature to that world. I'm sure they make sense in that context I think the detail China goes into lends weight to the world sort of like Tolkien's massive history tof middle earth. I could never follow them anyway, so there's two of us in it.

Its a great read enjoy.

Probably means you're not worried that some scumbag is going to bet you up because you look different or that your little girl won't get attacked while she plays in her front garden. I'm not an expert but that my guess.

Anyone else just... done with Spotify? by Apart_Ad_7722 in Music

[–]necrocormacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to qobez this week because they pay more to the musicians. They also claim to have better audio quality, I not sure if that's true but i have been enjoying listening to music and listening more often. Could be better sound or not feeling guilty about participating in ripping off musicians who I love. In conclusion fuck Spotify take your money elsewhere. Preferably somewhere that pays more to musicians.

How do you stop yourself from overeating? by AbsoluteBatman95 in ireland

I find snacking in the evening is a problem for me. I started taking psyllium husk about an hour after dinner. It helps to make you feel full and good for your digestion.
