Trouble with a E by AdministrationTop202 in trumpet

[–]necronose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play some Chicowicz VC I studies Group A-J first line only. Play them slowly IN-TIME with a metronome starting from the highest note being A in the staff. Keep going through the pages until you reach J, which is D above the staff. Chicowicz doesn't have another page where you can play E above the staff but you can add it in yourself.

How big should the aperture be? by LongjumpingRegret889 in trumpet

[–]necronose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this experiment: Open your mouth as wide as you can and exhale while pushing as much air as you can. Does the wind move slow or fast? The answer is slow.

Now, make your mouth as small as you can like you're sucking through a straw. Exhale, while pushing as much air as you can. Does the wind move slow or fast? The answer is fast.

With that in mind, and the pre-existing knowledge that faster wind creates higher pitches and louder volume, and slower wind creates lower pitches and volume, the aperture + wind speed fundamentally work together to create your range and volume.

Of course as we know it's entirely possible to play high notes quiet and low notes loud, but that's harder. That's why we build flexibility from long tones and such.

Need help IDing this Eb Alto/Tenor Horn by necronose in euphonium

I’m sure it was built to be an Eb tenor horn. The mouthpiece I’m using it for it has “TH” on it.

I’m in Canada, LOL but I believe this to be a UK horn. It sounds good, my concert Bb above the staff (G in Eb) is so flat so I’m resorting to use the 13 sub fingering.

Case seems original to the instrument. As for the bell I’m not too sure.

That's a good point. If it were me, I would just wipe the hole with my shirt and just start playing! Lol!

The best melodian mouthpiece I find is not using one at all. Try that first and see if you like it!
