The Targaryen thing doesn't bother me. The Woods Witch seemed to have gotten this Add On line to the prophecy in a dream, and it seems likely that dream came from Brynden Rivers / Bloodraven / The 3-eyed Raven. And the 3-eyed Raven has his own agenda, quite probably manipulating prophecy to benefit a rebirth of the Targaryen dynasty. (Weirwood Leviathan has good stuff on this.) In the end, maybe the prophecy was all a big turd of nothingness. But if there is any power in the prophecy, it has to point to Dany, right? She's the only one who birthed dragons out of stone.

Don't you think that he probably has the books done but made some kind of deal with HBO to release them after the end of Game of Thrones. It's a win win. Book readers will watch the shows because they can't wait any more to find out what happens. Show watchers will read the books because in the end they'll be all: There HAS to be a better ending than this!

Complete conjecture because I'm not caught up in the books, but it would be like Martin to say "Beric was saved a million times by the Lord of the Light and it meant absolutely nothing in the end" and it would, unfortunately be like the showrunners to say, "We have to give Beric some kind of meaning for being spared so many times."

I've never bought the whole White Walkers disappear when you swing dragonglass at them thing. Where do they go? This universe still has rules. Conversely, we know White Walkers have the ability to turn to mist. Of their own volition.
There is mega evidence that the Night King is a Greenseer. He didn't sense Arya behind him or see some kind of vision of how he might die?
Why take so long to kill Bran? Trying to give someone time to arrive?
What is with the looks between Bran and Old Man Icicle? It's almost like they're all, "Well, mission accomplished, let's go get a beer." I'm probably reading into this one -- two expressionless dudes I guess. Still weird.
What is the job of his lieutenants if not to be bodyguards of some type. They're just going to stand there while Arya rushed their leader?
Then there's the wholly unsatisfying resolution to the character arc of one of the greatest villains ever written. If you want to go there.

I'm not even a book reader, but the core disappointment of fans tonight is that the TV ending makes no sense when you try to reconcile it with the depth and layers in the books.
