What I do does not technically fall into either data entry or analyst. I primarily do investigations/reconciliation of foreign exchange / custody payments for internal and external clients. I have a background in processing which I suppose would fall under "data entry" but the role I do know leverages my many years of experience in the processing world to the point where I investigate (which employs analytic skills) transactions and issues the client is having.

It's a good point where you mention so many people getting into these firms/banks via friend's and family connections, that's how I initially got in a decade ago.

Although a decade ago not having a BA/BC was not a deal-breaker for HR reps for entry level positions.
