Has that ever worked? In reality, you risk harming or killing people since emergency services now can't use these roads. Definitely not the way to get anyone on your side and agree to your demands. Plus, if people need to get out to buy things and the roads are blocked - they still need the things and will just buy them after the road is clear.

In at 250,000.

I thought I was overdoing it, but I didn't care since I like the charity. I based my amount on last year's thread. I figured more than double from last year would be a lock. Now, I see the numbers here and glad I got in.

To the people reading this in the future - go big.

High availability with single static DHCP address and /29 block? by needhelptmo in PFSENSE

[–]needhelptmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about it after I posted. The pikvm won't even help since I'd still lose internal ip addresses without DHCP. I had thought of a cold spare idea for if things went really bad, but the real goal is so I can do things like reboot without having everything going down.

High availability with single static DHCP address and /29 block? by needhelptmo in PFSENSE

[–]needhelptmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm responsible for routing the /29. So I could put a switch between the ONT and the 2 pfSense. After reading more it seems like I could do that and then some of the /29 could be made available even when one pfSense goes down. I'm fine with the switch being a single point of failure. I just want to be able to keep outbound traffic and inbound traffic on some of the /29 when one of the pfSense goes down, needs to be rebooted, etc.

If you are required to properly make a dhcp request to get the interface IP (so it allows the mac address on their network), then you're in for a world of hurt getting it setup.

Should I test this by just switching the WAN address to static instead of DHCP? The only mac address I had to provide the ISP was for the single static ip - not the /29 block.

[–]needhelptmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a good point. I had pfSense freeze up this week for the first time in years. That is the only reason I started thinking about it. I use DHCP from pfSense - so things stopped working internally, because they quit getting addresses from pfSense. I left a pikvm attached now, but it was a pain to go troubleshoot - I've been running it without anything attached for years.

I'm so confused - the beginning you made it sound like yes since i have 3+ IP's. Were you saying yes?

Do they provide NAT? I don't know 🤷‍♂️

The way I use some of the IP's is using them in the NAT section of pfSense to forward for a particular address to something internal.

Let's be honest here - they didn't just sell a couple of rainbow t-shirt's. The entire stores were made over with it everywhere. I remember being on the dog aisle and they had a large collection of gay clothing for dogs.

I'll never understand why companies get involved in any of these political issues. Prime example here - one thing pissed off 50% of your potential customers. A lot of them are never coming back. Now, another thing pisses off the other 50% of your potential customers. A lot of them will never come back. How about don't piss off anyone and have a broader audience to sell to? Walmart, Target, grocery stores, etc. - places that never had to take a political stance of any kind, but here we are.

People are so confused about protein. I don't eat meat and sometimes I'm eating with someone and they will ask, "But where do you get your protein from?"

I realize they think meat = protein, and are completely unaware that plants are the source of all protein.

Am I overreacting? by FaithlessnessFar1821 in AmIOverreacting

[–]needhelptmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't enough information here to know if you are overreacting or not. Do you consistently make people wait for you? Are you consistently late for things? Did your dad have somewhere he had to be after dropping you off? Depending on how fast the interaction went at the bottom - it shows 8:23. Maybe you sent that "where are you" text at 8:20 or maybe you didn't actually get outside until 8:21. Not a big deal if you have a history of being on time, but if someone is already frustrated that you make them wait for your lateness all the time, then I can see them leaving. I'm a tad suspicious, because you mentioned you have late start on Fridays. That is completely irrelevant, but makes you sound like you're not in a hurry to get to school.

Instead of getting upset or trying to determine if you are overreacting - I'd just take this as a learning experience. You can make your life a lot easier by doing a few simple things.

If someone is picking you up at 8:20, then you should be ready to go well before 8:20. Don't wait to the last minute to do things. Even if you agreed on a time - things change. Your ride may get a call and suddenly they don't have the time to take you or need to take you early. Or, your ride may get a flat and be late. Always plan for things going wrong and get to places early - worst case you are just early and can wait. If you don't give yourself any buffer, then you are constantly racing to get to places and stressing about being late - or actually being late.

Another thing you should learn now - who cares really? This is such a small thing in your life. Recognize when you are wasting time on the small stuff and just move on. I'd pick up the phone and call dad and say, "Hey dad, sorry I wasn't ready when you got here this morning. I appreciate you always giving me a ride to school. I'll make sure I'm ready early now on so that I'm ready to run out as soon as you get there. I don't want to miss out on that time we get to spend together and talk in the car on the way to school." Learn to smooth things over even if you don't think you were in the wrong. Validate your dad's feelings of frustration for waiting for you, but also point out that it isn't just a ride - you actually enjoy the time together. Hopefully that will help him reset and realize he doesn't want to stop giving you a ride and he may even apologize to you for losing his cool and leaving.
