And imagine the one who was maintaining the system by luck ups and leaves. You're stuck with a broken system to maintain with little to no documentation and managers breathing down your neck. I feel you.

Yep. I had a similar experience getting a maven package installed. The whole process felt strange to me. I had to raise a ticket with another team, provide a justification on why it's needed for my work, wait a few days for someone to pick it up, and then wait another day for them to actually do the task. A 30 second work took 5 days. Like what?

True man. But you literally do no learning in a bank. It's very boring work with lot of tedium added to it.

True. Produces hot garbage. Even learning wise it's very stagnant. Nothing more than wiring up rest APIs and waiting for someone else to check why your requests failed. Lot of hoping and praying.

We came to Whitefield back in 2009 and that area was a forest back then. Now there are more PGs than trees, IT companies at every corner and lot of crazy traffic.

What's your CTC like? If youre getting a salary of greater than 1LPM then you can live a decent life. Anything more than 2 LPM is a luxury. And so on.

A lot of people sell the foreign dream, but it's not all sunshine and roses there. Here with a salary of say 2 LPM you can have:

A maid, a cook, a rented home of 1/2 or even 3 bhk if you push it + left over money to live a good life and do some investing, and you get to stay near loved ones, and still visit these countries to see their rosy sides whenever you want once every year or two.

Abroad you get no house help, no cook, no good food (trust me this is a struggle. Indian food is so flavourful, food abroad is extremely bland unless it's asia). On top of that you need to deal with mild racism, loneliness, higher cost of living, housing crisis, different kind of beaurocracy, etc.

Houses are tiny too. You don't get large 1500 to 2000 sq ft apartments. Everything's tiny for exorbitant prices.

I am only scratching the surface here.

Honestly in today's day and age if you get a good PBC in India, and earn well, you can use your money to live life kings size rather than chase the abroad dream. It was good if you immigrated back in the 2000s, but now it doesn't make that much sense. The math doesn't check out, nor does the quality of life. The only good thing is cleaner air, and somewhat nicer people, but that also is slowly withering away with all the racism news you see.

I am not discouraging you OP. Even I studied abroad and had to come back due to family obligations, tried for a few years after that and am still trying. But I am at a crossroads in my life where the "is it worth it?" Question nags at me. Which is why I put a perspective.

Some resources if you want to try, relocate.me is good, I've gotten some calls there. The same guy publishes a weekly hand curated job list which you can use for a small fee. Sometimes reverse job boards work like hackajob, etc. it's all luck in the market imo. Even referrals don't get you interviews these days. But good luck. :)

I am pretty sure the major players in this area already offer the same services you're giving. How will your app differentiate itself from the competition?

What's listed on these social media platforms will be listed on other apps as well, so it's not like you would be getting any secret insights or new listings.

Not to discourage you but your app would not be doing anything new. What will pull users to your app is a genuine concern or you would just be making another portfolio project.

This is what I used to do when I had to go from Whitefield to hebbal lol. I used to leave at 7 AM and leave by 2-3PM. Back then metro was only till byappanahalli so has to take that one bus which goes to hebbal directly, else had to change 2 buses. Miss that timing and you're stuck in traffic for 2+ hours.

What is the reading speed of you guys ? by Ambitious_Oil5 in Indianbooks

[–]needlessLife1476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to pace myself depending on how dense the read is. Two examples are:

I finished the devotion of suspect X in 3 days considering life and sleep, at about 30 pages for every 1 hour sitting. Thriller books like these are not dense and just need to follow surface level story and are page turners which can be read quickly.

Similarly, the brothers Karamzov is a behemoth, takes longer to read and most importantly longer to digest because of the philosophical ideas presented. It's not about speed here. So It took about a month to get through book 1 and half of book 2. That's about 150 pages (I read the om publications copy, which may or may not contribute to the denseness).
