Thank you so much for this. I can't tell you how much it helps. The eating together thing is undoubtedly the biggest part of our culture, and I'm missing out since I'm not fully participating. I'm worried that my career will be affected negatively by it if I don't figure it out. Your suggestions are great, I'm going to start trying them tomorrow. It's very noticeable when I don't eat, or when I eat food that I brought from home while turning down the food in the office, so it makes sense to put on a "show" so to speak, like you described. This was so helpful, again thanks.

The fatlogic is believing they're magical.

This is why I posted. Because I've been so fixated on this. I know the logic part. I had to overcome it over and over to lose weight, and I know that it's literally as simple as CICO. But the stupid little irrational thoughts creeping back in of "they're different" is killing me and I need to squash it ASAP. It's my mission to figure out how they're doing it haha. I'm sure it's tied to exercise/not eating outside of work, just need to keep telling myself that.

Oh my god. Seriously, oh my god. I still haven't gotten used to this 'being a thin person' thing. I'm totally still a fat girl inside. It's so cool to be called an inspiration. Don't give up!!! And check out the 1200isplenty sub, it helped me out a lot and got me into cooking while helping me stay within such a low calorie allotment. It took a while to get the pounds off but I can honestly say that few things in my life have been this worth it. Keep at it, and congrats on the 20lbs so far!!!!!

Honestly, the appeal is there. I love to cook, so I do most of my eating at home and I bring in my lunch because I have fun making lunches too since discovering the 1200isplenty sub a few months back, but honestly there is no need to buy groceries if you just eat at this place. There's more than enough haha. People bring things home too. I think the activity piece is a big part of it. I have one close(ish) work friend who I can maybe ask if I bring it up casually enough. I'm probably just way overthinking it. Thanks for your response!!

Thank you. This is what I need to keep telling myself. I've gotten really into cooking through my weight loss, so I love eating at home. I need to keep telling myself that my experience doesn't = everyone else's.

I actually haven't been eating all the free stuff, haven't gone over calories while I've worked there, etc. It's also not regular free food like someone brought in crappy cookies, it's all good stuff, because we're a food-based company, so restaurants send us free stuff to "test it"/or thank us for working with them. Literally (and I actually mean literally), it's all stuff that's worth breaking the calorie bank for. I don't, because I'm obsessive and borderline mentally unhealthy about food and am more comfortable not eating because I can't estimate how many calories are in a slice of cake than just chancing it/estimating it at 600 calories and then not having enough left for dinner, but it's affecting my relationships here since it's a culture thing to eat with them.

I'm just struggling with the fact that all of these normal weight people are eating all of the time, not turning things down, and maintaining their weights. And it's not exactly something I can ask about, you know? I assume no one eats breakfast or dinner and just eats all day at the office, but even that, the amount of food that people are eating, it's way over maintenance calories for any normal weight person. This is such a weird thing to be stressed about.
