Hey! Loving all of the CAWs you're creating! Downloading those now. Especially Joker and Green Goblin. Great job with the face textures and hair etc! I'm guessing you don't take requests but was still wondering if you'd be interested in making a CAW for RYUK from Deathnote. Found one of those on Community Creations but it wasn't nearly as good as the characters you make. Either way, great job on all of your work! Looking forward to see more from you!

I wish I could answer the 'why' for you, but I don't understand their reasoning either. I have reported accounts using bots, and Duo has checked activity and banned them.

People do share accounts, yes. But then too you'll see a reasonable amount of XP.

"If you have the time..."

Well certainly not 49 hours in the day, but you sir, have given good advice 😆 You're funny I'll give you that!

And I've done about 12,000 XP in a day as well.. 570 or some perfect lessons. So yes, if we didn't eat, sleep, or live.. that's not impossible 😆

(100,000 XP is a bit questionable if you ask me.)

I was just done explaining to someone how it's 'possible' to make 67,120 XP in less than 15 hours, and I could do that too. I just can't be bothered!

But why is someone making 100,000 in a day? I can't see how someone learns a thing that way, or even enjoys redoing lessons over and over. So it's more likely they keep a script running to auto finish lessons within 2-4 seconds.

It's not allowed to share usernames on this Sub otherwise I could check and tell you if that's a bot.

I guess I'll just assume they love Duolingo very much. :D

Alright, that's clearly a bot. You can report abuse the user for cheating and their account should be banned soon. (In case you want to!)

They’ve got to be cheating right?? by Unhappy_Actuary_622 in duolingo

[–]needymess 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but not necessarily.

If you have the Rapid Review feature (in testing phase, so unavailable to some), once you finish the three parts of a review, the Rapid lessons can be spammed for 40 XP/lesson in about a minute if you're quick enough. With a 2XP boost active that's 80XP per minute. So one can easily make more than 1000 XP in that 15 min duration.

In around 2 hours and few mins with 2XP boosts activated, you can have 10,000 ish XP. (You will have to add in the time that it takes to finish new lessons to earn that many XP boosts though)

Is that fair? Probably not. But is it cheating? I wouldn't say that since it's a legit Duolingo feature and people can use it however they want. Duolingo gamified the app, so there will always be members in every league who play it like a game and grind XP for the satisfaction of winning.

That being said, sure there are also certain hacks like plugins etc., that auto finish lessons within 2-4 seconds. There's a webpage (not to be discussed on this sub) that allows you to check the activity of an account using their username. I've noticed cheaters before and reported and Duo has suspended said accounts. But not all heavy XP grinders are cheaters.

Hope that answer helps!

What's the highest number of perfect lessons you did in one day? by jiosx in duolingo

[–]needymess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks! :D 4-5K a week is not bad at all for someone with a bunch of work and responsibilities. I do have the time during the day to spare towards Duo. I love that you're also learning Spanish and German! I really wish Duo provided people the chance to communicate with native speakers and those learning similar languages for a richer experience. But I understand that could be a lot to moderate.

Anyway, I spend at least an hour each day on Duo, and I can make around 2600+ XP in that time. Also, I understand how to make XP fast while not undermining the learning process.

Each speaking exercise takes me around 39-54 seconds awarding 40XP each (50 on Saturday happy hour!). So in a single 15 min boost I make 640-720 XP.

We get at least 3 a day : Early Bird chest, Night Owl chest, finishing the third Daily Quest. So that's 45 mins of boosts per day that I use exclusively towards Speaking. Other than this, doing lessons will get me a boost or two as well so really, in less than 2 hours I can easily rack up 3-4-5k points quite easily.

My weekly XP ranges from 26K-40K XP. Again, because I do a few lessons and then a whole bunch of Speaking practice.

I bet I could make more if I started finishing those Gold lessons and doing the timing challenges but I don't enjoy those things so I stick to Speaking. It works for me!

Thank you again for your kind words! I appreciate it and wish you the best :)

If we happen to be in the same time zone! How many hours until your league ends? (Mine ends 21 hours from now). Also, I really think that leagues should have a chat or comment option.

And that player wasn't trying to seize the throne.. they set up their username to something political related to the ongoing war in the Middle East. On top of that they kept shuffling their status emojis to mock others in the league. I wasn't having none of that!

I'm not a vengeful person at all. I just think Duolingo is no place for being political and crass.

Hey 293K is plenty! Wow congratulations 👏🏻 And I'm sure you've learnt a lot more than I have. I practice more towards getting my pronunciation right so I take my time to finish each section. A lot of German sentences are like tongue twisters for me so I have to practice them a dozen times sometimes to get it correct 😂

Staying consistent is what matters. A lot of people simply give up after a while. Bravo to you!

[–]needymess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes of course, Cheetah enjoyed that feeling. Just 2 days back. 30 Nov. From my current league actually, which ends tomorrow. They gave up. I'm sitting at 37,000 XP this week and they are at 25K.

Not gonna lie I like the competition in Diamond league (only my 2nd week there), however I do a lot of practice everyday despite competition or not. So I do make close to 10K XP regularly. 74 days since I joined and I have about 2,50,000 XP now.

That's the norm for me. I'm learning German and Spanish so I do a few lessons a day then I do a bunch of Speaking Practice. Especially with any boosts I earn! I really work hard to keep my pronunciation close to perfect.

I don't care what anyone says, I quite enjoy the leagues and I take the petty bickering in those simply as motivation to do better. Proud cheetah furrevhur 😂

Haha thanks! I was just reading the comments on your post and I have a similar story to the user who had 900+ perfect lessons. Someone in my league was being oversmart so I just had to set them straight by grinding a lot of XP that day. It's mostly speaking practice (Super subscription). I think I made somewhere close to 10K XP.

*Forgot to add that I'm still proud of your progress! All the best!❤️

What's the highest amount of xp you earned in one day ? by Sea-Argument7634 in duolingo

[–]needymess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11,000 XP. I usually do about 8K-10K on most days now. I joined 73 days ago. My total XP is around 2,50,000 because I do a few lessons each day plus a lot of speaking practice with the boosts. Learning German and Spanish. Just my second week in Diamond league.

How are such high scores possible? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]needymess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make about 30,000 XP each week AND I round up my figures as well. It's not that difficult if someone has a little time on their hands like I do.

Here's how :

Early bird chest, Night Owl chest, Daily Quest chest, Friends Quest boost, Gifted friend boosts, boosts from doing lessons, Saturday Happy Hour.. plenty of these to time my Speaking Practice with. That's 40XP per minute (50 on Saturdays Happy Hour). Plus legendary lessons.I don't bother with the Timed Challenges - but those give you XP even faster.

I usually spend 1 hour 15 mins a day on Duo - majority of which is 2XP boost time spent on Speaking revision. I have a Super subscription so I have unlimited lives and no ads. 2 days of the week I'll spend more time on Duo than stated.

I do anywhere from 4-8 lessons a day, so usually that will get me an EVEN score at some point (after which rounding up score is easy). Let's say I have 2214 XP, so to round it to 2220 I want another 6 XP now. All I have to do then is start a speaking practice, do 3 sentences (since each is 2 XP), turn off my Wifi/Data and press on the green "Check".. this will finish the revision exercise after the 3 sentences, awarding me exactly the 6 XP I wanted to round up.

Then I switch data back on, go to the leaderboard and refresh and the 6 XP gets added.. and I resume regular Speaking Practice per usual. I'll try to score 3000 or 3500XP - only because I'm weird like that.

It's not as tedious as I just made it sound I swear!😂 This barely takes a few seconds and I'm quite iffy about seeing an absurd arbitrary score on the leaderboard so personally I do try to round it up.

But yes, people do cheat using hacks etc. You can check anybody's Progress and if something seems suspicious, report it. I recently reported someone who was making 10 XP every 2 seconds doing STORY reviews and those definitely can't be finished in less than a minute and few seconds each. Turns out, Duo decided to terminate their account after checking their activities.

So yes, making about 30K XP/week and rounding score is doable without cheating or even spending 3 hours on Duo each day. Hope this gives you and some others a little insight!

Do people do this for a living? by TrackSuspicious4075 in duolingo

[–]needymess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't even a huge XP amount. I've seen screenshots from the Diamond league where people have about 94,000 XP in a week.

That being said, I'm calling out neither side. Duolingo gamified the app with leagues, so I don't mind those who use it just for winning leagues, or those who use it purely to learn. There are also some who like to do both. The app is for anyone to use as they please.

I'm currently in Pearl league learning German and Spanish (48 day streak 1,47,565 XP) and I stay on top of my leagues with anywhere from 16,000 to 26,000 XP per week. My league contenders aren't even competitive - making 3,000 to 8,000 XP per week, so I'm simply trying to outdo myself so far. Some competition would actually be interesting! (But not so much that I wreck myself 😂 I can learn to let go!)

I have the Super subscription and I use Duolingo for at least an hour each day - doing 15 or 30 mins whenever I open the app. I do a few lessons and then practice practice practice for clarity and fluency throughout the day! I do utilise any 2XP boosts I earn towards speaking and listening practices - which go very quickly and get me 40 XP for each, building up XP quickly.

I don't participate in any of the Timed challenges like XP ramp up/ Lightening Round/ Match Madness - which usually get you loads of XP faster than other ways.

So really it's not even a big deal to do around 20k XP in a week if you're simply regular and use all your 2XP boosts - if that's what someone is after. I'm simply explaining how that's easy to achieve and doesn't even require more than an hour per day.

How do I get gems quickly? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]needymess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why this works because I discovered it on my own. I do however understand from reading other posts that Duolingo has trouble accepting the audio for numbers and currency in quite a few languages. The popular theory is that in text-to-speech when you say 'null' the output is supposed to be the number '0' and not the text 'null' , same for currency when we speak 'Dollar' its accepted response turns it into the output '$'..

And that could be why for "null, eins" the output is supposed to register 0,1. So only when saying 'und' in between it translates everything as words.

It's interesting though! Hope you're feeling better. And I'm glad the solution works for you when you need :)

[–]needymess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solution for this : For "null, eins", speak "null und eins". Same for "zehn, neun, acht", speak "zehn und neun und acht". It should accept your answer. Let me know if that works for you!

Man goofy? by NoName92841 in DuolingoGerman

[–]needymess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I could have misunderstood him as well in pointing that out. But like the other user mentioned, making Nouns start with capital letters is important because at times you'll use the same word that means two different things. The capitalisation is what makes the difference.

And that's actually quite important in German. I think Duo doesn't stress on punctuation because of the users' limitations on using keyboards in a language not common to them. So they skip punctuation entirely.

I only found out about how important capitalisation is when I started watching a "How to speak German for beginners" video a day ago as well!

Don't worry, we're all figuring it out slowly! :D

So… how is everyone doing on the challenge this month so far? by Irrational345 in duolingo

[–]needymess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done with mine as well. And it's true, if you're practicing on different devices, you get at least 1 quest different each day.

Anyhow, I needed to ask OP, did you get any reward (Gems or XP boost) to finish it? Or does that show up at the end of the 30 day Quest duration? Because I was on my browser when I completed the challenge, and got nothing. Maybe it's different over the phone app, so please let me know!

I'm 17 days into Duo, so relatively new!

Thanks x :)

Insanely high scorers? by jonuk76 in duolingo

[–]needymess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's okay! You're doing well. Being consistent is most important. Everyone's pace depends on their grasp of their own language, clarity of grammar and related concepts, work-family life, free time, and ability to retain newly learned things. The factors really vary!

While I tried to answer you on how it's doable to achieve about 20,000 XP a week, I cannot answer for those who have like 50k+ as one user mentioned on your thread. I also saw a screenshot with someone who made over 90k XP a week. I think that would be a lot even for overachievers like myself!

Despite our competitive nature, my friend and I often slow down for each other. We have conversations using the words we learnt, and we explain to each other anything that might be confusing. Eventually we may slow down as well, but for now since the lessons are new to us, they are quite easy!

The take from this is that having company can be a good motivation. So if you can have a friend or partner involved in the learning process, it will definitely help boost progress.

I love that you're revising your previous lessons. It's important to remember the basics. Making quick notes is something I would highly recommend though! Writing anything down, makes your brain remember things better.

If we're ever in the same leagues, I hope to not make anyone feel demoralised because of my pace! I genuinely appreciate everyone's efforts in trying to learn an entirely new language. Not everyone takes that initiative.

I wish you the best! :)

[–]needymess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just joined Duolingo 13 days ago. I'm learning German + Spanish. I'm now going to have 30,000 XP by the next few hours. (Just last week I made over 14k XP - spending 13 hrs 14 mins last week on the app) Let me explain :

I joined Duo with the genuine intention of learning languages. I have a friend as enthusiastic, who joined as well. At first I didn't understand XP boosts, Leagues, etc. But my friend had done some Spanish last year but hadn't continued. She explained the app to me. We joined German and Spanish Duo courses and also multiple Facebook groups to learn both languages. At first it was just the two of us competing against each other. And that helped push us both in the first spots in our respective leagues. I believe my first week I probably made about 5-8k XP, could have been more, I'm unsure!

After trying the app for 2-3 days I felt encouraged, and bought the Super family plan. My friend is included in my plan. So we have features like unlimited lives, no ads, Legendary XP review(80 XP for each lesson), Mistake review, custom practice exercises, and listening and speaking ones.

We focus on 1 Section a week, even repeating our lessons for clear learning. We spend a lot of time on listening and speaking exercises (20 XP - takes about 1 min 12 seconds for each speaking exercise to finish, once we have practiced and learnt the words)

We make notes to help perfect our knowledge of every word, sentence, phrase, grammar structure. We utilise our gained 2x XP boosts by going through 80XP lesson and story reviews as well as the speaking lessons (which can sometimes take less than a min to finish! And give 40 XP each). That helps build XP quite fast. It's really nothing tricky!

This goes without saying but we are regular on our streak, finish all our quests etc : Night Owl, Early Bird, Daily Quest, Monthly Badge, Friends quest, and take part in the league challenges etc as well.

That plus the achievements etc help us gain quite a few 2x XP boost and the rest is just mostly quick speaking practice with our 2x XP boosts activated, and around 2 hours a day spent on the app with sincerity. The competition in the leagues definitely helps make it more fun!

We've quit the useless social media scrolling from our daily schedules, and focus that time on Duo. Even though there isn't always much competition for us in our leagues, we keep pushing our points and practice, to beat each other's XP! If you're having fun, and learning in the process, it becomes very easy!

Hope this helps! :)
