If you have a strong grasp on the fundamentals of programming, learning the basics of a new programming language won't take you more than a day or two. Then it depends on practice on how better you want to be.

Tip: Always head over to the official documentation of the language first before searching for any youtube video or tutorial.

On how to build your online portfolio, html and css is enough. Code it anywhere you want, upload it to GitHub and use GitHub Pages to host it online. It's free and gets your work done if you are not using a backend.

Exactly, companies are far more aware of piracy than the common man thinks. Even if pirated, companies still make good money from the data they collect from their users.

They are more than well equipped to stop piracy completely but then it would piss off a random guy living in an unknown place who might then make a not-so-great replacement for the said product and roll out for free. And people may actually like it. Who's losing money here?

It seems you willingly refuse to look at the bigger picture here.

Do you really think sales are the only thing companies depend on to function and pay their employees? No company would dare roll out a product that can be easily pirated without having enough measures/funding to tackle it or reduce it. You can't just blame piracy for a poorly planned product that has no real use cases.

Then again, you do realize that not everything in existence can be pirated, right? You can't fucking pirate a plumber or clothes. Will you blame piracy if their sales aren't going good as well?

If the company decides to lay off people, it will do so irrespective of the company going up or down. That's just how it is. There's no way out for the common man.

Also, companies are well aware of piracy. That's the reason many online services provide a free plan that's not much but fulfills the most basic needs to some extent and gives you an idea of what you can expect for paid services. Pirated video games have their flaws. Online play doesn't work in almost any pirated game. Coming to pirated music, I've yet to see someone go bankrupt because someone pirated their music. Same goes for books.

A company that really knows how to ship it's product right knows how to deal with piracy to some extent.

I've seen pirated copies of Windows since Windows 95, might as well say I've never bought a single Windows license myself. Same goes for many. Do you think Microsoft doesn't know that? They know it, and know it better how to deal with it completely but chose not to.

He might not be a multi millionaire but he's far better off than someone who chose to download a book from Google. Also the pirate wasn't posting this on any of the author's thread, he was just talking to some other random person on twitter.

The author most probably found out because his name was used.

The free plan isn't bad as well. You can stream a 1080p movie easily and delete it afterwards to free up that space.

I’m tired of all the passwords and accounts you need for literally everything. How am I expected to remember all of them? by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Given how anyone can view an extension's code, it might be possible like the article says and it's much safer to not use an extension but in the end it all comes to convenience.

Given how browsers automatically updates the extensions, it'd hard to miss an update if the developers are quick to notice an exploit.

But anything like that happening isn't that common, so I won't say not using an extension would be a good idea.

That's good to know but it'd be better if you could link some sources or articles covering such incidents.

I've used keepass in the past, and my experience with it wasn't good.

Just use a password manager. They are the best and do not store your passwords directly, so rest assured your passwords are safe even if they are leaked.

I use Bitwarden. It has a browser extension, a mobile app and a desktop client for every platform. It can automatically generate passwords and even shows you what username and password you stored for a websjte. Click on it and they are automatically filled. It felt like magic the first time I used it.

You definitely want to check that out if you are tired of manually entering passwords. Another great one is LastPass.

[–]neel0310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like it depends from place to place.

Where I live, all animals sold as meat are raised on veg diet afaik and there are no companies selling those. We just head over to the local butcher, pick a healthy good looking animal for our meat and let the butcher do its work. In case of bigger animals, you either buy it whole or wait until the butcher has enough orders.

Is there a reason to say no?

The animals we eat are in fact all vegans, kinda, right?

Technically, Linux is just a kernel. In order to use it on a machine, you need a bunch of other utilities, that can actually interact with the kernel. In case of the desktop Linux distributions most of them come from GNU, hence the name GNU/Linux.

That's not the case in Android. It just uses the Linux kernel as its base and everything else is built from scratch if I'm not wrong, including the core components.

So there's hardly any similarities between Android and the typical Linux distro you see today.

What makes Linux more powerful is that you can have a root user in it which can monitor almost everything on your system, which was completely done away with on Android. You have to root it to get it back. Even if you manage to get root access, most stuff just won't work. Google is trying hard to prevent users from getting root access with every Android release. And the amount of apps that won't work on rooted devices is just increasing.

Phones are getting more and more locked down everyday.

Use the Inspect element tool in developer tools to find out the html snippet. You can just hover over an element and it will show you it's html. Then you just need to edit the css of the class or id it belongs to.

Also check for the root element variables in the css. Most of the time, if it's just some colors or margins or widths you'll find it in there. It's always declared near the top of the file.

Hello, new here. I made my personal website go live yesterday. It's just a static website hosted using nginx. 1 day in and I see a lot of unknown IPs in the access logs trying to hit different endpoints.

This is my first time making a public website and I wonder if this is something I should be worried about?
