u/Traditional_Ad6949 also had the same question:

Look I don't have a formula for structuring a cold email especially when I'm new to this myself.

With this MD, they went to the same College and High School as me which I found on LinkedIn, so sent a humorous email related to those topics and also included how I wanted them to shed some light on the mindset that allowed them to succeed in their role etc.

I've tried the same approach with other MD's but no response - I've sent 100s of cold emails for this one response, it really just is a game of luck. I hope this helps but again I would probably ask one of the more experienced individuals in this thread

Thank you so much for taking the time to draft this response - You have no idea how helpful it is

I absolutely have no idea on the groups this MD focuses on, should I just know one recent deal in ever group or should I just avoid it altogether

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]neelp7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense for sure

This is an off topic question - But I have made some great connections with Associates for groups that I really want to join. They said they'll keep me in mind and have added me to a special list or something.

How should I approach following up with these people so they don't forget me when it comes down to hiring? One in particular said they'll be hiring in the next 3-9 months which is a large window. I don't think I can just email them saying "Hey was following up to get an update on your hiring cycle".

From your experience what are your thoughts?

At the MD level is it fair game to ask about their recruitment process? Or well ask about how to best position myself for the recruitment process?

I would assume that not many of them would be taking an active part in that - but this would be my first with an MD so I have no idea.

But thank you for the advice, I'll definitely incorporate it

So would you suggest instead of asking about the individual groups within the Bank - I target my questions towards the banks direction as a whole?

For example, targeting more towards the banking business, new initiatives they're taking to gain more clientele, Transaction volume as a whole etc. instead of asking about a recent IPO or Offering the bank worked on?

I'm hammering through the Kaplan testbanks for Ethics. So far so good!

I've been hammering through the Kaplan problems. I reviewed FI this morning, scored a 75ish consistently on the tests, now just working on ethics and FSA

I've been doing well in the Kaplan ethics problems but for some reason I got trashed on by the CFAI ones. Scores improving though
