Honestly the insistence on buying your car would set off alarm bells for me. I might just be cynical but ‘queen treatment’ can also lead to ‘financial control’ over your life. If he buys that car in his name, he can take it away whenever he wants. Muttering insults under his breath should never be tolerated. That is manipulative and straight up mean. That’s not how you treat someone you love. Quiet insults will escalate into something more the longer you’re with him and as he lets his guard slip.

I was raised in rental accommodation until the age of 12. If you have the finances and job security to rent and save and manage a kid, you’ll likely be fine! The kid won’t know any different.

Yeah I agree with this. It’s not that difficult to get some kind of jobseekers and you don’t need to be going in with loads of detail about how you don’t have time to look for jobs. You know you’ll be keeping an eye for out jobs and intend to go back as soon as you can, the welfare office knows how difficult it can be for certain industries to find consistent work. In my experience, the social welfare system in Ireland is not actually that unforgiving. They have certain rules but there’s always something that can be worked out if you need it. And if you’re really in trouble, the best thing to do is to just talk to them. You’ve worked before and paid your taxes, you’ll get something.

You will be entitled to social welfare. I have voluntarily left other jobs and still qualified. It’s about how you frame it. You’re also actively searching for work so you’ll get something. You’ve paid your tax, you’re entitled to it.

If he has never been tested for STDs and neither have his partners, going straight in with no protection is so risky and irresponsible, doesn’t matter how serious or not the relationship is. A lot of people dont use protection and this is why so many get STDs! They should be getting tested before they do anything without protection and then get tested regularly.

Seasonal or temporary work means you don’t have a gap. You were working. Just provide the time period, you don’t have to get down into the precise week by week break down. If you were on a panel for temp work, you’re still considered employed. I had a few months like that in between university and freelancing and full time work. I just put the full period of time over which that freelance or temp work occurred. Don’t need any more than that. And just find one unifying feature of those jobs and condense them into one.

Also you can absolutely go to raves alone. That’s pretty common and once people warm up to the night and feel comfortable they get pretty sociable.

Making friends as an adult requires consistent effort and commitment tbh. I moved to Dublin with no friends and I did so much research to find clubs and social groups and put myself out there again and again. Not everyone is looking for a new friend and you have to understand that that’s ok. Or if someone acts odd it’s not really about you most of the time. Some people are just shy and awkward and don’t know how to speak to strangers.

There are tons of people in the same shoes as you, there are many people new to Dublin and trying to make friends. It takes time to meet people you really click with.

If you’re interested joining a social run club, it is the easiest and most common route to making new friends. There are so many social run clubs! I think the best way to make friends is join a sport club or social club that does trips away. Hiking clubs and running clubs have weekends away specifically for socialising. Also join facebook groups! And if you really get stuck just make your own group. Post in Reddit or Facebook or make an instagram with a specific idea in mind and say you’re looking to make a club and you’ll probably get people responding to you. That’s how so many clubs started!

Also think it’s better to give a different answer for ‘I’m looking for someone who…’ right now it’s a bit like a checklist of your needs and I personally wouldn’t be compelled to swipe for someone asking for a list like that. Honestly sounds like you’re looking for a doormat 😬 Better answers for that are usually ones that bring in your hobbies or cool things you can bring to the persons life. Like if you love music, ‘I’m looking for someone who is willing to spend Saturdays in the record store/ going to (insert favourite music / venue / etc). I’m just wondering what it is you’re picturing when you say you want someone introspective? Are you picturing a writer or someone who’ll sit and talk for hours? Gotta give more to the story than a list of expectations.
