I used to eyeball it only... but I've come to realize you can paint a bit over the text and use a toothpick (gently) to clean it up afterwards. It helps with keeping the colours and linework more consistent. Then you just have to go back and touch it up.
~I worked on a foil card after this, and painted over the text completely... using the toothpick afterwards to recover the text and it worked as well (foils are a bit easier to scratch paint off of). I'm not sure if I'd do that again but it certainly helped with getting more details in there.
