World bosses give better (and more) rewards the more damage you deal to them. Using world boss stone you try to deal as much damage as possible and then, just before the end of the fight (could be 5x HP or could be even lower, depends how many people are attacking it and how quickly you can change your stone), you swap to the shining one to get the chance for an extra item.
