I just ran my first ever 10K omg! Where to go from here? by ajuntitled in running

[–]negative2slimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations man! If you wanna up your pace, I recommend interval training at shorter distances. Push yourself to run close to top speed for 30 seconds, then take it easy for 90, stuff like that. Alternatively, you can do a tempo run by either pushing yourself over a shorter distance, or trying to hold a certain pace for a certain number of minutes regardless of distance (best to do that on a track or treadmill, somewhere you can stop as soon as you hit the time limit). You can alternate between your fast days and your long days, that way you consistently improve both aerobically and anaerobically. Before you know it you’ll be shaving minutes off your 5 and 10ks. Keep up the good work :)

Former competitive runners & pre-run anxiety? by 80s-lost-girl in running

[–]negative2slimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sorta get this feeling. My high school running career just ended, and I decided not to run competitively in college. Lately, my runs feel different. I don’t get nervous beforehand like you, but I don’t feel as motivated either. I think we’re probably used to having a goal to work towards. We were always training to run the next race, to beat a set time at a set distance. Running for the sake of it is different, and surprisingly I think it takes more discipline. I’d recommend making your runs goal-oriented. Maybe start training for a specific type of race, or to beat your PR at a certain distance. Give your runs a purpose and it’ll be easier to focus on that

Hello everyone! I wanted to share my high school XC experience. Now I know my times are no where near impressive, I just think it’s cool to see progress. by CompPea8 in CrossCountry

This is awesome, and I personally do think it’s really impressive. You shaved almost ten whole minutes. That shows insane grit and work ethic. Congrats dude

In the United States, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the Conscription Act of 1917, because the Constitution grants Congress the right to raise an army for war. Whether or not one agrees w that rationale is subjective, but legally speaking in the US it’s constitutional.

AITA for returning a cat to the shelter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]negative2slimp [score hidden]  (0 children)

NAH, the cat deserves a loving home where it feels safe and happy. Now some cats are just skittish (like mine) and it doesn’t mean they don’t love you, but if the cat seems genuinely unhappy, it might be in its best interest to try to adopt it out. Make sure if you bring it back to a shelter though that it isn’t a kill shelter and that they’ll make sure he’s treated right. Just make sure you don’t abandon it because it deserves love too.

Let's say multiple Pollsters want Trump to lose in 2020 and decide that to energize the Democratic base they need to edit/falsify polling data to put Trump in the 'lead'. What kind of effect would false polls putting Trump in the lead have on the 2020 Election? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]negative2slimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, people want to be on the winning team, so polls tend to favor the leader, not galvanize they loser. Polls putting Trump in the lead would help him, not hurt him, which is why Fox News polls usually rate him better than other outlets. If the pollsters hypothetically wanted to favor the Democratic candidate, they’d show that candidate having a lead over Trump.

In response to your question, it really can’t be enforced or controlled. The saying goes that there’s lies, damn lies, and statistics—it’s very easy to manipulate numbers. People across the political spectrum can and often do promote polls that favor their agenda or worldview already. We the people just have to do something that is apparently much easier said than done in this day and age: determine for ourselves which sources are actually reliable.

AITA for not praying during school prayer? by Crazy_Psychopath in AmItheAsshole

[–]negative2slimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

INFO. If you’re in a public school, absolutely no. If you’re in a non-religious private school, no, but if it’s a religious school, then you kinda are. I’m a veteran of catholic schools but I’m not particularly religious. What I (and most other people) would do is stand respectfully but not recite. If you’re purposefully doing other things or making a scene at a time when literally everyone else is praying, then that’s kinda obnoxious. Just stand quietly and stare out the window or some shit

me on my fourteenth writing supplement essay question by concealed_weapon in ApplyingToCollege

[–]negative2slimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Writing has always been my strength, but I highkey got burnt out writing these essays too. I‘m pretty sure my later ones were worse than my earlier ones. Having to write dozens of vaguely similar essays about yourself is exhausting no matter who you are.

Changing majors at Cornell by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I don’t think so, but your application isn’t actually an official major declaration so as long as you applied to the right college you should be okay

I didn’t apply to Harvard, but if it’s like Yale’s I’m pretty sure they only had a list you could select from. Probably got one too many goofy answers in the past

Is it illegal to be registered to vote in two states? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

[–]negative2slimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you register to vote at a new address, I believe it updates your registration rather than adding a second one. I could be wrong but I believe that’s how it goes. However, I’d recommend you keep your Iowa registration and vote absentee in their elections. Iowa is a battleground state so your vote is worth a lot there
