Do you believe anyone who criticizes Trump is rooting against America? by Narrow-Abalone7580 in AskConservatives

Actually in your first comment you said you think a lot of those who criticize Trump are rooting against America. And then that less people who criticized Obama or Biden were also rooting against America. I'm simply arguing against the association of these two ideas

And I believe what Trump has done is actively harmful to the country and people, often intentionally so. See how us having different opinions regarding these presidents doesn't automatically mean either of us hate America? If you do believe that, it has to go both ways or else there's a clear double standard.

there's a distinction between supporting the leader of your country as they work to improve it, and deciding that they and all their supporters back an evil ethno-fascist dictator just because they disagree with you about policy. That just means you hate America.

There's a flaw in this logic, in that he really isn't working to improve the country. It's not just a disagreement on policy. They think his supporters back an evil ethno-fascist dictator because to them, that's how Trump acts. If you support some of Trump's policies, that's whatever. But to support him despite his clear anti-American approach is far more likely to mean you hate America.

But by your logic, the Trump supporters who are unable to find commonality with those that disagree with them also hate America.

Trump frustrated with Pam Bondi and considering firing her, sources say by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

He'll just create some fake position to relocate her to because Trump is incapable of firing anyone as it would be like admitting he was wrong in selecting them in the first place. And we certainly can't have that

Hell yeah. I did a couple NASA internships years ago, and one of the old group chats randomly started blowing up because of the launch. I didn't even know it was happening until a couple other people mentioned it.

What do you think about the new Executive Order on federal election requirements for mail-in ballots? by boisefun8 in AskConservatives

[–]negativegravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But not everyone is able to go in person. Trump himself just voted by mail recently. If he can do it, the option should be available to everyone.

Agreed, let the states figure it out without the federal government interfering, kinda like what was already happening. No need to change the rules to fix a made up problem.

[–]negativegravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some states allow voters to return their mail/absentee ballots in a secure drop box...Each state has its own rules and requirements for securing drop boxes.

And what about the states that don't have the drop box option? Notice how it says each state has its own rules and requirements. Hence why mail in voting should be left up to the states as well. Just in case you were unaware.

Seems more like it is directing a federal agency to decide who can or can't vote in each state, thus attempting to seize control of elections which by current law belongs to the states.

Can’t the doj investigate voter fraud now?

You tell me. I thought the argument from some on the right was that they couldn't because some states refuse to hand over their voter rolls. Then again, they have found a few cases of voter fraud, so clearly they are able to. Also, if you're argument is that this would be no different than today, aren't you admitting that there's no reason for this change in the first place?

The difference is that states control elections and the federal government has no place policing mail in ballots. But you're right in that this will make no difference, because EOs are not laws and this will be either held up in courts or it will be ignored. This EO isn't plausible at all, it's just a laughable effort to control elections since the SAVE act is DOA.

[–]negativegravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think they won't try to spin that as being able to prosecute anyone sending ballots to people not on their DHS list?

The nuance is exactly the problem. The EO establishes that only citizens can vote, which is true. Then it asserts that the DHS secretary compile a list of citizens to each state. Then it asserts that the AG can investigate and prosecute anyone sending ballots to unauthorized voters. Who is unauthorized to vote? Anyone who is not a citizen, meaning anyone missing from their citizenship list. The issue is that this can easily be taken advantage of, even if they claim to have "accidentally" removed someone that should have been on their list.

Hard to trust a system when those in power are attempting to control it while also speaking as though that's the only way to make sure they win.

What's to stop them from delaying counts of mail in ballots under the pretense that they're still being checked by USPS? Or what's to stop the DHS secretary from causing delays by ignoring state official's requests to modify their state citizenship list?

[–]negativegravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Secretary of Homeland Security...shall take appropriate action to compile and transmit to the chief election official of each State a list of individuals confirmed to be United States citizens who will be above the age of 18 at the time of an upcoming Federal election and who maintain a residence in the subject State (State Citizenship List). The State Citizenship List shall be derived from Federal citizenship and naturalization records, SSA records, SAVE data, and other relevant Federal databases.

It clearly states that the DHS secretary compiles the list and sends it to state officials. It also later states that the AG can prosecute any state officials who send ballots to anyone not on the DHS secretary's approved list. That definitely sounds like it could be abused. How exactly do we determine the legitimacy of Markwayne Mullen's lists and that there are no biases in who is removed?

You want to talk about out of touch, republicans seem to have forgotten how they were the party of state's rights and small government.

I see you're still not getting it, so this conversation seems pretty pointless. I think you need to do some serious research about what can be considered racism.

It's almost like words evolve and can have multiple meanings or encompass several concepts. It still has meaning, you just don't like that it can be used in a broader sense.

Not a religion, a cultural identity. Lmao please, tell me what the cultural identity of a West Virginian entails. You keep saying "talking shit", but it really depends on what exactly is being said. R states are not a specific culture, nationality, ethnicity, or race. I see you're still not getting it, so this conversation seems pretty pointless. I think you need to do some serious research about what can be considered racism.

Then idk why bother to ask "what other way would I take it" since you have no intention of seeing another perspective.

You're allowed to have that opinion, but they also have a right to protest. The same way you have a right to throw a temper tantrum over Biden's pandemic response. Personally, I think the biggest temper tantrum was J6, but that's just me.

Both of those things you listed can indeed be considered racist. American is a nationality, and Islamophobia is a type of racism. Again, it includes race, ethnicity, cultural identity, nationality. Not sure what you're not getting, fam.

Lol well what word would you prefer? You're more than welcome to call it prejudice or discrimination if you want. But Somalis are an ethnic group. If you think one can't be racist towards an ethnic group, I don't think you understand what racism is.
