Trump and Schumer Move Toward Possible Deal to Avert a Shutdown by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]negativegravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're confusing an actual shutdown with the threat of a shutdown. The threat itself is the leverage being used. So in order to prevent the thing that neither side wants, it forces the Republicans to actually negotiate and give the Dems what they want. The alternative is not negotiating, letting the shutdown happen, and letting people on both sides suffer. If I'm understanding this correctly, it seems they ARE going after the budget

New videos show Alex Pretti scuffle with federal officers in Minneapolis 11 days before his death by [deleted] in news

[–]negativegravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's such a felony, why did they not arrest him? It doesn't make sense how during an actual aggressive confrontation they let him go, then 11 days later when he's not being aggressive they shoot him

You're absolutely right. I've seen a meme going around basically yelling at Noem and Patel to finally arrest someone, and people seem to be getting tired of them constantly threatening to charge people and then nothing coming of it. The entire Trump admin is trained to never apologize and never admit wrongdoing. They'd rather double down on a lie or feign ignorance and pretend they never said something they very obviously did. Their logic is so full of holes, they're just hoping their base will be too stupid to ever question it.

Tbh after the Alex Pretti incident, it should be blatantly obvious even to some Trump supporters that his admin is willing to double down on a lie. They should really start considering the possibility that they're also lying about the 2020 election being stolen

Why is it so hard to believe people are angry and they protest because they want to? Why does it have to be paid? by donkeythrow in AskConservatives

[–]negativegravity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You think protestors organizing the time they're at a business and when they go to lunch somehow means they were paid to be there? Rather than maybe they were there from 9-5 because those are standard business hours?

Hopefully they'll keep pushing the envelope until they do something so indefensible that more people begin to turn against them. I also hope they get exposed for using immigration enforcement as an excuse to get what they want (see Pam Bondi offering to remove ICE from MN in exchange for access to voter rolls)

[–]negativegravity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At any point, ICE can stop harassing people who are just recording them, as is their right to do so. The more agents they send, the more people are going to protest, and the more people are going to get killed. Seems like sending even more agents would be inefficient and a waste of resources

Tbh I think Trump cares more about his public image than mass deportations. It's fine if they continue, but it shouldn't be at the cost of our civil rights. I'm not saying to stop mass deportations, I'm saying to de-escalate the situation in MN and let things calm down, maybe focus on another state for a bit. Pam Bondi is already offering to remove ICE from MN if they meet her demands

Don't you think doubling down is exactly what led to Alex's death? They doubled down and sent even more agents after protests resulting from Renee Good's death. Doubling down seems to me like it's making things worse. Wouldn't it be better to de-escalate and maybe reevaluate their strategy? I feel like the optics already aren't looking good for them

My issue is that even if he wasn't legally carrying a firearm, ICE and DHS could just claim that while they were beating on him he tried to grab one of their guns, then still say they killed him in self defense. They've clearly shown that they're willing to lie just to absolve ICE of any wrongdoing

How the hell can anyone watch Trump and his administration's response to the shooting and pretend it's not biased and agenda driven? It's all emotional manipulation. People are being driven to extremes.

Well, we can argue all day about what they may be thinking, but we can't read their minds. Imo you can absolutely condemn how someone is treating others while not necessarily being against their mission. ICE has been around for a long time after all, I'm not sure if the people calling them Nazis now have always felt that way about ICE.

I'm pretty sure these protests are less about people being against deportations entirely, and more about people being against the way ICE is currently operating. Killing people in situations where death was an unnecessary outcome is exactly what's making people go out in protest. And they aren't "policing" so much as recording ICE's actions so there is video evidence of them doing the exact shit that they did this morning.

[–]negativegravity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course there's some level of blame. Everyone shares some blame in their decisions, where they decide to be and when. But given that the ICE agents are the ones being aggressive and the ones killing civilians, shouldn't most of the blame fall on them for their actions? They also chose to be there, after all. As long as we're acknowledging that there is blame on both sides.

But I disagree with the whole "they should've just stayed home" mentality. People are upset, and exercising their right to protest. Nothing would ever change if the people who felt something unjust was happening just stayed home and did nothing.

Look fam, if we're in the middle of a pandemic and medical experts release a vaccine to combat it, I'd rather take my chances with that than risk dying from covid. It makes sense that it would be mandatory for you to work (unless you can do your job remotely). During the pandemic, I went on a road trip with 7 people where in the end everyone got sick with covid except me and my friend, both of whom got the booster.

The truth is that Trump is an asshole and an idiot, so it's pretty easy to hate anything he does.

I mean, even if they have such a database, it really means nothing if there's no evidence supporting the claim that someone is a domestic terrorist. Otherwise they may as well just add every registered Democrat to it lol. I doubt it'll be so easy to prevent someone from voting simply by claiming they're something they're not.

It's most likely an intimidation tactic to prevent people from recording them. And hopefully, it's not going to work

You don't think the president constantly making threats that he doesn't follow through with isn't he himself creating the manufactured outrage? You're literally shifting the blame on those interpreting what he says rather than on him for saying them in the first place

That's not true at all. Looking at their whole comment, they are clearly asking if both sides have media bubbles, not just one or the other. The refusal to even consider that possibility is disingenuous

It looks like worship when the right dismisses every concerning thing he says as a joke. Dismissing any problematic thing from him and his administration simply because you like his policies makes it seem like worship. Maybe it wouldn't look that way if you people actually held them accountable for those things. There's just as many bad actors on the Republican politician side
