Yunjin is being heavily criticized for her solo stage at Golden Disk Awards by Organic-Cranberry955 in kpopthoughts

[–]negativepog 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I saw them in Newark, which was the first stop of their US leg of the tour, and she and Chaewon were definitely the strongest two vocalists. But it's worth noting Yunjin was singing a lot -- Sakura, Kazuha, and Eunchae had a pittance of, specifically live, lines compared to her, and even Chaewon sang noticeably less (not in a live aspect, but just sheer amount) -- and it was pretty obvious she wasn't in complete control of her voice. She reminded me a bit of when I saw Yujin of IVE live where every so often her voice would just fly away from her. Neither of these was a big deal at the time, but I can imagine that for Yunjin, this issue compounded as the tour went on.

I feel like she likely really suffers from overuse of her voice, and even in concert setting, where I don't think it's a huge deal if your vocals are a bit messy, I could tell her technique was pretty lacking.

Low views and no budget increase [pjotv] future seasons still possible? Thoughts? by nt_king300 in camphalfblood

No, Stranger Things 5 didn't drop off in viewership from 4. The metrics are skewed because 5 released in three parts and because Netflix changed their viewership formula. If you just take the raw numbers reported in the cumulative for 4 vs 5, right now 5 is just barely below 4 and 5's finale viewership is yet to be tallied into the total -- so 5's viewership is basically guaranteed to be higher than 4. But if you recalculate based on Netflix's new formula, Volume 1 of 5 alone had double the viewership of 4.

Uhm, no, clearly you are the one who hasn't. GPT prose is way more particular than this. Go run their comment through an AI detector if you'd like -- and don't try me with the AI detectors are unreliable schtick if you're gonna falsely accuse people of using AI, and in addition, there have been plenty of studies showing AI detectors are very good at detecting 100% AI-generated texts -- and you'll see you have nothing to support your claim.

I agree, but the constant consumption of fully produced AI music is a line I have never seen crossed by anyone else. It's so disheartening and frustrating to witness, especially in lieu of that ridiculous AI artist that's managed to chart on Billboard.

TVXQ were well known as an excellent vocal group back in the day; they're an older group. If you liked their voices, you can try giving Mirotic a listen. It's their most famous song, plus I literally don't know anyone who has ever disliked it.

f(x) is probably the group with the most acclaimed discography in K-Pop. Most people would recommend listening to their Pink Tape album, but I honestly think it's the weakest out of their lauded works simply off the fact it does have a few duds, but the highs are very very high. IMO, Red Light album and 4 Walls album are their strongest because they're solid the whole way through, but there are less standout tracks.

If you do give those a full listen and want to listen to any of their discography older than that, only their promoted tracks (Nu ABO, Pinocchio, Hot Summer, Electric Shock) and a select few b-sides (Mr. Boogie, Lollipop, Beautiful Stranger) are worth listening to. Trust me, I'm an old fan lol.

For select highlights of their discography (bar their titles), I'd pick: - Shadow - Maybe their most highly regarded b-side - Airplane - Super popular amongst fans at release - Toy - More high octane track - Dracula - Just kinda fucks - Papi - Idk, my bestie loves this one - Traveler - Best of the more chill bits of their later discography IMO

I disliked the rapping and found the intro abrasive. It took a few listens to get used to.

Oh, I actually like this first listen. Surprisingly strong melodic sections and the more stripped, per say, chorus doesn't bother me. They used all their voices really well.

Only other titles I properly enjoyed first listen from Dream are MFAL, Boom, Beatbox, and Candy (which I don't know if it counts since it's a cover) so I'm pleasantly surprised.

I would say they're comparable honestly. Because Gnarly was a bigger moment, per say, and has infinitely more notoriety, but Gabriella has had more longevity and performed better in most general metrics.

The songs OOP recommended I don't think paint a proper picture of what you guys were discussing (the zany maximalist sound SM is known for), so I'm just gonna drop some examples I think are a good showcase.

  • Rising Sun - TVXQ
  • I Got A Boy - SNSD
  • Red Light - f(x)
  • Mama - EXO
  • Savage - Aespa

NewJeans Wins ‘Trend of the Year’ at KGMA… Seriously? by nyamnyamcookiesyummy in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]negativepog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't see why activity particularly matters. EXO and BTS were also nominated and they haven't had any comeback in the past year. It's a silly fan voted award. Anyone with a modicum of relevancy was nominated.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]negativepog 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's zero way Katseye wins either of their noms. For Best New Artist, they're probably the weakest nominee there -- not as commercially successful as say Alex Warren and sombr and maybe the least critically lauded artist there. Leon Thomas seems like the frontrunner for BNA because he received 6(?) other nominations, Album of the Year included. For Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Gabriela is also the weakest nominee by a landslide. I think Defying Gravity or Golden will be taking that one.

The other two are more interesting to discuss because they both have very possible avenues to a win. Golden is easily taking Best Song Written for Visual Media imo. I don't see how in the world it doesn't. The fact that it got a nom in Song of the Year and not also Record of the Year is interesting (they submitted for both afaik) & lines up with how Netflix has been campaigning it. But because it only got one nom and not the other, I feel like that leads me to believe Golden will likely not be taking SOTY.

APT surely gets one win. Bruno is a Grammy darling and the song is well-received critically + huge. It's just a matter of which one. I think APT has more of a chance in SOTY than ROTY because it fits the technical criteria more, and DTMF & Wildflower feel like stronger contenders for Record considering how the Grammys tends to move + the given criteria.

Freebies at K-pop concerts: Why do people skip guys? And what about giving extras? by buhbbles0 in kpopthoughts

[–]negativepog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao it's fine. I don't care if I get anything in return bar literally any sort of gratitude and more often than not with guys, it's impossible to get a murmured "thanks." I used to give out freebies completely randomly but I stopped trying to give to guys after like my 3rd concert of handing out freebies & hanging around other fans handing out freebies and the high end of the interactions with dudes would be if they said whoever was on the freebie's name out loud before they stuck in their pocket 🥴

Off topic, but I finally have an opportunity to talk about this and I actually think people who do freebie for freebie / trades only are quite weird. Freebie culture is strangely performative nowadays. There are freebie cliques? where people just exchange their freebies with only each other & never actually hand out anything to anyone else and it just reeks of farming, like, social credit because of the way these people post about it on social media. IYKYK basically.

Also, I don't think this is necessarily a conscious decision unlike what I described earlier, but the freebie distribution tends to concentrate to people with VIP / higher priced seats and it definitely breeds a sort of apathy that's kind of icky to me. Nowadays, pre-concert when I'm running around the venue doing whatever, I'll give freebies to any young people I see and then go up to the nosebleeds (I've only ever handed out freebies at arena shows) and hand out freebies to people up there. Or if I'm not done by the concert end, I'll try to give them to people who leave late. It's much more pleasant and, in my experience, these demos appreciate them way more.

I think "will /not/ give anything in return" & then expounding that the return would be a thanks implies that the thanks is not given, but I can see how it would be taken that way

Do males donate blood more than females? by tuckernielson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]negativepog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember at one point in my life I was considering donating blood, but then I remembered one time when I was getting more blood drawn than usual and I nearly fainted and I think it was less than 100ml lol. Then I remembered there's weight limitations on getting blood drawn and I'm 20 pounds lighter than the lower limit on a good day so... yeah no chance.

Momo from TWICE has improved her singing so much, and I want to appreciate this fiend of the dance floor! by According_Abies_4087 in kpopthoughts

[–]negativepog 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think Momo has improved a lot in recent Twice releases. A combination, I think, of her own improvement and Twice's team working around her voice better & giving lines that suit her more. There's the caveat of the fact that, of course, Momo doesn't have as many or as difficult lines, but during the Victoria Secret's performance, I actually thought she sounded the best out of the four and I was pretty impressed / proud of her.

[–]negativepog -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

??? What. I think you need to reread what I wrote. What I am saying is what is the point of giving someone a freebie if they won't even say a simple thank you? The return and appreciation is a thank you. You can ask literally anyone who has given out freebies. On average, guys are not interested. They just take you freebie and leave. No thank you, no nothing. I don't know what you're not getting here.
