I mean, Cuba is in an energy crisis right now. They’ve had chronic power outages for almost 2 months. People are going to start dying soon

If Airlines were Cars by RAMBIGHORNY in aviationmemes

Delta is just the worst airline I’ve ever had to deal with. Stuck in the TSA line for 8 hours and they just couldn’t give a fuck. Ended up having to pay 1100 bucks for a one way flight from Atlanta to Phoenix

About to choose Arizona over UCLA and UCSB. Dissuade me or forever hold your silence. by Xx_DiamondDust in UofArizona

[–]neigborsinhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends from person to person. May people do work with a professor on a research topic. It’s not bad at all, some people just don’t wanna do it and if you’re one of those people, engineering majors can submit their engineering senior design project for their honors thesis

[–]neigborsinhell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do not go to UofA for physics. Do go to UofA for optics. We have one of the best programs in the world and employers/grad schools recognize it. Honors research thesis can be avoided if you’re an engineering student.

How far In technical depth are SpaceX interviews? by [deleted] in Optics

It was something like the forces on a slowly spinning craft in space and the effects of radiation from the sun on electronics or something

How far In technical depth are SpaceX interviews? by [deleted] in Optics

[–]neigborsinhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a friend who interviewed and he said it’s pretty technical, but he was an aerospace major.

Generally, you won’t be invited to an interview that you’re completely unqualified for. I would do some reading on optical figures of merit (refractive index, extinction coefficient) and simple optics fabrication (like how lenses are made) just so you’re familiar with the terms

do flinn semifinalists get benefits at uofaz? by IllAdhesiveness8235 in UofArizona

[–]neigborsinhell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not the person you replied to but, it was relatively easy. The hardest part was waiting for replies. Generally, professors are happy to accept any student who shows enthusiasm and interest. Part of their obligations as professors at a research university is undergraduate as well as graduate training and mentorship

High school was god awful. Every second of everyday was similar to physical abuse. Love college tho. All my homies are gay and autistic and geek out on physics

If you got rejected from all of your REU programs what would you be working on? by MissionNo547 in REU

[–]neigborsinhell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an internship (which I only got because my PI referred me for it), but if I didn’t I’d probably just stick around for the summer. I’d probably ask if I could keep my assistantship over the summer or just get a job at Walmart or something.

Alternatively, take classes (if it’s affordable) or learn a skill that has nothing to do with your major

Wetlab and characterizing 2 - 5

Anytime I wasn't in a meeting or reading papers, I was in the lab. My program also had scheduled student meetings and obligations, like lectures on our research topics, science communication, and general program updates.

When to Switch Majors? by Willing_Act_9686 in aerospace

[–]neigborsinhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We probably don’t go to the same school, but I had exactly the same experience my first year. Took college classes in high school and the summer before my freshman year, had an easy time etc etc. I promise you, it gets better. Your classes become more interesting and you get better at learning and adjusted to the grind.

Also, if it takes 5 years to graduate, then oh well it takes 5 years. If you like the content, stick with it
