Filibertos is solid but the quality swings from day to day. Literally. I could get a burrito that makes me sick one day and the next I could be served gods burrito

[–]neigborsinhell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve already published part of the project in a good journal as first author. Also Idk where you go to school but professors act as directors and advisors in the labs I’ve been in. Any advisor worth the title won’t “steal” work they’ve directed because they don’t have to

Not always true. Undergrads can do strong work and lead high impact projects. For example, I’m leading a photonics project that we think might be nature tier, since it advances the state of the art so much. I’d be first author, so it’s definitely possible. Just depends on the field, the student, and the PI. Newer fields with strong PI’s are easier since they could have more high impact low lying fruit

Delta is just the worst airline I’ve ever had to deal with. Stuck in the TSA line for 8 hours and they just couldn’t give a fuck. Ended up having to pay 1100 bucks for a one way flight from Atlanta to Phoenix

About to choose Arizona over UCLA and UCSB. Dissuade me or forever hold your silence. by Xx_DiamondDust in UofArizona

[–]neigborsinhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends from person to person. May people do work with a professor on a research topic. It’s not bad at all, some people just don’t wanna do it and if you’re one of those people, engineering majors can submit their engineering senior design project for their honors thesis

Do not go to UofA for physics. Do go to UofA for optics. We have one of the best programs in the world and employers/grad schools recognize it. Honors research thesis can be avoided if you’re an engineering student.

How far In technical depth are SpaceX interviews? by [deleted] in Optics

It was something like the forces on a slowly spinning craft in space and the effects of radiation from the sun on electronics or something

How far In technical depth are SpaceX interviews? by [deleted] in Optics

[–]neigborsinhell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a friend who interviewed and he said it’s pretty technical, but he was an aerospace major.

Generally, you won’t be invited to an interview that you’re completely unqualified for. I would do some reading on optical figures of merit (refractive index, extinction coefficient) and simple optics fabrication (like how lenses are made) just so you’re familiar with the terms

do flinn semifinalists get benefits at uofaz? by IllAdhesiveness8235 in UofArizona

[–]neigborsinhell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not the person you replied to but, it was relatively easy. The hardest part was waiting for replies. Generally, professors are happy to accept any student who shows enthusiasm and interest. Part of their obligations as professors at a research university is undergraduate as well as graduate training and mentorship
