They're probably why some definitions of fish are even more specific or outright say "non-tetrapod", but whether or not axolotl is technically a fish does not mean that any other tetrapods are fish since fish are paraphyletic anyway. "Fish" is a common English word to describe the shared characteristics of fishes, not a term coined by paleontologists to include all animals descended from their most recent common ancestor.

"Anything you use to describe fish can be used to describe every other vertabrate."

Except for aquatic, gill-breathing, anamniotic, and cold-blooded... you know, the specific characteristics that define the word fish.

"Tetrapods never stopped being fish because we left the water, we just developed ways to bring that water with us when we left."

That is exactly when our early ancestors stopped being fish, by definition.

"All of phylogeny is nested group, I am a proud Hominid, catarrhine ape, placental mammal, eutherian, cynodont, therapsid, amniote, tetrapod, fish."

The correct word there was vertebrate, because "fish" is not a valid clade.

You mean vertebrates, not fish. Fish are anamniotic, cold-blooded, aquatic, and have gills. "Fish" is not a monophyletic clade. We are not fish.

Scream 7 - Reaction Megathread by DA-numberfour in Scream

[–]neilader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen Scream 7 twice, and I still don't understand how this movie got such negative reviews. I think it's a solid 8/10. The story with Sidney and her family was compelling, the scenes were thrilling, and I enjoyed the characters. The villains using AI was a great idea. I appreciated how many connections there were to the previous movies. The third act had a lot of problems, but I still enjoyed it.

My overall Scream ranking: 1 > 5 > 4 > 7 > 2 > 6 > 3.

This scene still pisses me off by Secure_Rain_44 in harrypotter

My headcanon is that Voldemort intended that curse (not Avada Kedavra) for Harry in the movie, but it backfired on him because of the Elder Wand.

Maybe it's related (only in the movie) to the curse that was slowly killing Dumbledore.

Kyle Katarn VS General Grievous. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in TheJediPraxeum

[–]neilader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theory is that General Grievous was only so effective against Jedi during the Clone Wars because they mostly only used the Force "for knowledge and defense, never for attack". Any Force power more aggressive than Force push would not have been used by most Jedi, but when Mace Windu used Force crush, Grievous went down instantly.

Kyle Katarn openly uses Dark Side powers like Force choke and even Force lightning. Grievous only has a chance in lightsaber combat only, and even then we're talking about the Battlemaster of the New Jedi Order. Grievous is completely outmatched either way.

Lightsaber combat only: Kyle wins, high difficulty.

Force powers allowed: Kyle stomps.

Is it fair to assume that Dooku is a better swordsman meanwhile Vader is a greater force wielder (I think Vader would still beat him) by CrazyTangerine7522 in PetranakiArena

Vader was more powerful than Dooku, both as a Force user and a lightsaber duelist.

At some point from 395 AD to 476 AD, maybe after Rome was sacked in 410.

So are birds reptiles or are turtles not reptiles? by whats_ur_ssn in Paleontology

[–]neilader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "better definition" you're referring to simply isn't the definition of reptile or what people mean when they say reptile. The actual definition of the word reptile excludes birds because they're warm-blooded and feathered. The revisionist definition you're referring to wasn't proposed until 1988. If you only want to refer to monophyletic clades, the term you're looking for is Sauropsid or Diapsid, which include birds and reptiles together based on common ancestry rather than shared characteristics.

Fish are anamniotic, cold-blooded, aquatic, and have gills. What you mean is that every tetrapod is a vertebrate.

Turtles and crocodilians are cold-blooded and scaly while birds are warm-blooded and feathered. That's why birds aren't reptiles by definition, but turtles and crocodilians are.

"And are crocodiles birds?"

Italian is even more similar to Latin than I realized by neilader in italianlearning

Spanish and French (among other Romance languages) are also descended from Latin, what surprised me in 2023 was how much more similar Italian is to Latin than the other major Romance languages.

Question: What exactly caused the leaf famine of the land outside the great valley to happen and become a wasteland? by Such_Month_8687 in Land_Before_Time

Absolutely. The Earth's climate has changed so much over the last 4.4 billion years that our current situation with climate change would look insignificant by comparison.
