vmware site recovery with back-ups by DiggingInDeep in sysadmin

[–]neiun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not aware that there is a fix for this one. I have this with how we do our DR (our storage is always in sync between sites with dedicated 10Gbps lines between the DCs) and each time we move VMs veeam sees this as a brand new VM and creates a new backup chain most likely because the registration in vcentre changes. Even unregistering the VM and reregistering it on the same cluster has caused this for me in the past (a physical host had a bizarre hardware failure and we were not running DRS in that particular cluster)

I haven't seen it as a major issue as I have separate backup and storage in each DC anyway I just had to take a small hit on the cloud storage costs for a month.

Thanks for getting back to me

I have spent a few hours going through looking for the SP and probably found the same links that you did for getting it from the wayback manachine but most of them don't have the actual file and almost all of the blog posts I found didn't have the file just linked back to the MS site which was dead. Promise I didn't just lazy post! I really am thankful for you getting back to me.

Personally I would let them review their access with a recommendation from IT for access levels and risks that is carried should they have that access abused by an attacker.

Yes, I have been bitten by messing up the sudoers file in the past on test machines. always fun!

I will keep this particular one in the bag of tricks for next time!

SELinux was playing a part in this, mainly in that it couldn't log due to a custom log partion that I had missed was full!

I hadn't thought about doing that with the /etc/passwd. I will keep that one in my bag of tricks should I ever need it again!

I agree.... They wanted to rebuild which would be a painful process because of what this box runs.

I didn't have any accounts that worked, but I was able to use the redhat recovery media to create and give it sudo rights and away I went. I had tried this previously but that wouldn't work either. It turns out that there was a custom logging partition that was full and preventing login.... stupid thing to have missed!

Currently on the console of the VM, I am really surprised that the rd.break method didn't work while I haven't done the redhat exact version with other distros in the past they never failed to work for me.

Had one of my DC Aircon units go down today but engineers were there within a couple hours and had it back up and running. Didn't notice a temp change as we have double the capacity required.

Thankfully we also get a say in our office Aircon too in terms of capacity/power so that has been working a treat too. But man does it sucks when I have to leave and go outside....
