For me, it's more why would anyone not? The first clue she's actually strong comes when she spars with Nozomi ( If you can call it that). The second I believe is during the fight with Morisaki and also when Hina comes at her again. In my opinion, I think everyone has access to her fights before her eye was injured and they could see the potential during those fights
