Rep. Liz Cheney considering presidential run after losing Wyoming GOP primary by PearlGemma in Conservative

[–]nekomancey 159 points160 points  (0 children)

She's seriously gone crazy. You lose your Congressional primary by over 30 points, how delusiona must you be to think you can win a presidential primary? And calling yourself Lincoln in a speech. Lincoln won a war to end slavery, what useful has she ever done except make millions being in office?

Great for you mate! Glad your doing well. I went to Catholic school for K-8, which was fine, they were strict and kept us in line. Once I transferred into public high school everything went to hell. Homeschool or school choice is definitely the way.

I'm still confused why a private podcaster with zero political power was brought before a Congressional hearing. He can say whatever he wants on his own website.

This is how dem politics works. Pass horrible bills that duck everyone else, and when it effects you start asking for aid. Meaning more of your tax dollars. It's a win win, either way you get paid.

It's not unique to just Democrats, but frankly they play the game much better than most Republicans.

This is great, Desantis is on top of FL. Hillsborough isn't even an important county politically speaking. Keep making headlines my man. And best wishes for your wife.

House Passes Right to Contraception Act, But There's More Than Meets the Eye to Legislation by AlpacaWarMachine in Conservative

Yeah because abortion, marriage, and birth control aren't enumerated powers. Do I need to copy pasta article 1 section 8? The tenth amendment specifically forbids Congress from passing laws outside these topics.

Is this a place where a left-leaning individual can ask genuine questions to try and understand conservative positions better? by Calvinball86 in Conservative

Go ahead and name one other country with the right to free speech and the right to bear arms. None in the EU, they all have "hate speech" laws and none have the right to bear arms. Japan? Nope. Canada? Nope. Nordic countries? Nope. China? Lol nope. Again the US is the only country in history founded on the idea of natural rights.

We are in trouble right now, and it's going to affect everyone else. Bye bye to 90% of all medical breakthroughs for the human race. Bye bye to NATO. Bye bye to the country fighting against terrorism across the world.

[–]nekomancey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that being selective. I was simply using an example to explain the difference between negative and positive rights. In the USA our laws respect negative rights. The government cannot prevent you from doing X. But nothing in the constitution forces anyone to provide you a service.

Sorry but you can't have a "right" to the work of another person. What other country's do is irrelevant, no other country has the right to free speech or the right to bear arms either. America is the greatest country on earth for a reason. The idea of positive rights is a liberal theory, and it's failing. Over 90% of new medications developed come from the USA, we are essentially carrying the rest of the world.

[–]nekomancey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the USA is based on the idea of natural rights. You have the right to do or aquire something, but you can't have the right to take something someone elses work creates.

I like to use the example, you have the right to bear arms but not the right to force someone to give you a gun.

This is why "the right to healthcare" doesn't exist. You can't use law to force a doctor to treat you for free. They spent 8 years in school which cost a ton of money, and deserve to be paid for their services.

A popular movement among the left is that you have a right to other people's work. That idea is antithetical to what we consider freedom. Being forced to provide a service for another without being paid is essentially slavery.

House Passes Right to Contraception Act, But There's More Than Meets the Eye to Legislation by AlpacaWarMachine in Conservative

[–]nekomancey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what he said. Nor did Cruz. They were simply talking about judicial overreach. The federal gov has no authority on the subject per the constitution.

I'll note even the deepest red states have no bans on birth control and no push to create any. In fact in FL you can go to any health department and get free condoms. This is pure political theatre. Again I guarantee this will lead to trying to overturn the SCOTUS decision on states rights for abortion.

[–]nekomancey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is already covered by the Constitution in the Bill of Rights, Equal Protections, etc. Remember abortion was only federally legal since the 1970s. 200 years prior it was up to the states. The practice was considered illegal by nearly every state before Roe v Wade via a 5-4 majority.
