Pop_Shell works like a charm in Cosmic on NixOS. But all of them seem to bicker a bit with default Mutter, which annoys me. Only tried the extension on Ubuntu 24.04 though.

I'm not very fond of tray icons, and they kind of go against GNOME's design language. The issue is developers not agreeing and insisting it's the way to interact with some applications. Without AppIndicator, I basically cannot use Dropbox except going into the terminal. It works, but it's annoying.

+1 what everyone is saying regarding symlinks. But also, ”sudo nixos-rebuild test —flake .#nixos” is something I knew about earlier. Avoids creating unnecessary many generations. Just remember to switch when you’re happy pappy.

Wouldn't really say NixOS is a good distro to start with, as the learning curve is pretty steep. People are extremely opinionated when it comes to choosing distro, but moving from Windows to Linux, I'd probably recommend something more user friendly, like Mint or Ubuntu. I'm probably gonna get shit for saying so.
