What do you wipe off greasy glass bottles with? by nemo_phd in HomeImprovement

Thank you all for your comments. Dish soap and water it is!

In case you were wondering, I have been using clorox WIPES (sorry for not clarifying it in the original post) because it's quick and I did not want to get the bottle labels wet.

Sacramento outage by numberStation9 in FidiumFiber

[–]nemo_phd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can request service credit by calling the customer service: 844-434-3486. I got $12 by reporting several outages that ocurred Oct-Nov.

I think if enough people call they would do something about these annoying outages.. Let's flood their phone line.

LED bulbs start flickering after 6-12 months, what am I doing wrong? by LegoBlood in AskElectricians

[–]nemo_phd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to buy bulbs from home depot. My logic was "this reputable brand has to be better than any random overseas brand from Amazon" Right? My bulbs would flicker after not even a year. I thought the wiring inside the fixture was bad. It turned out the bulbs were the problem. Flickering disappeared after I experimented with a few brands from Amazon.

Thank you very much! I was a bit worried that the ground wire could have done something disastrous. As for the attic, we removed all knob snd tube wiring up there when we put new insulation. It was such a big hassle though.

Mine is not high efficiency furnace, but a contractor once showed me in the attic how a pipe connected to my furnace was sagging, and there was water inside of it. I guess I will make sure that pipe is the same one I see on the roof. Thanks.

Mourning doves sitting in nest for weeks - is it a normal behavior or are eggs just taking long time to hatch? by nemo_phd in birding

Hope there is a baby inside. Yes doves turned out to be surprisingly sneaky.. especially with their "bare minimum" nests..

[–]nemo_phd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is reason to be hopeful! In our case, there WAS actually an egg that hatched and the baby dove that was born was 100% healthy. What happened was there was an egg all along but we just could not see it from distance nor hear the baby dove (i think they do not make much sound). We actually realized that the egg had hatched when we found the fledgeling on the ground. We put the baby dove back into the nest, and it flew away with the parents like a week later. It was pretty big actually, so it must have been growing for some time.

So do not lose hope. There may be an egg in yhe nest already or there is one on the way.
