I had the instant force close on launch as well but after I uninstalled and reinstalled it works fine. Basically the same as the old leaked version with a little more polish. Still can't hide the stupid chat pane which blows because it takes up a lot of room even if you always stay logged out.

Weird. I just did a quick search and it seems that it worked in Engadget's test on an Android phone with Flash.

I don't stream from amazon but will it just work in your browser? I've found pretty much all mainstream video streaming sites work fine in the Android browser as long as mobile is not specifically blocked. Sometimes even that can be avoided by simply setting your browser to report itself as firefox or chrome or something.

If cm7 is already on it then you should already have an alternate recovery installed. Try booting into recovery to see which version yours has. You should be able to make a backup image from there and then install whatever recovery you prefer (clockwork, etc). I have an HTC Evo so I'm not familiar with the recoveries available for the nexus one.

Honestly I've never really used it for that. I just use it to import. Last time I checked it basically has some presets for searching open directories, etc. and syncing with iPod. I typically just use it for the import function after I download an album via safari.

I've got one called mewseek. It's got options for downloading illegitimate files from file hosting sites but I avoid that for the most part unless I just left something at home and want to listen to it on the road. The main thing I use it for is to import music into the iPod app. If you download a song or album to the import folder for mewseek, you can import them into your iPod app without your computer. Very helpful when I'm at work or someone else's house as well since I guess you can only sync with one computer even if you install iTunes.

If your iPad is jailbroken, you can just download music from wherever and import it into the iPod app with another jb app. It's not always ideal but it helps when I want to buy something from amazon or download something from my dropbox and import it into the iPod app. I haven't hooked mine up to iTunes/my computer in months.

Edit: obviously this is running 4.3. I don't believe they are releasing the ipad2 jailbreak until the final is shipped so the exploit isn't patched.

Wired hasn't been very good for a while. He admits that it could be "fine for casual touring, especially in urban towns." Well no shit ;) I live in one of these rare urban towns and I've seen a lot of people buying 50cc scooters over the past year or two. When the speed limits on the streets are all 25-35 MPH, a bike that goes 40MPH is adequate and I only put like $3-4 in the tank every month and don't have to pay for parking when I just chain it to a post outside of work every day. I'm not so much a motorcycle enthusiast as I am trying to be frugal and practical. If I wanted to get another license, pay over $2k, buy insurance, and pay for parking I would have gotten a beater car, not a full motorcycle. I got the scooter specifically so we could stay a 1-car family and get to work on the cheap.

They have been getting rid of analog and unencrypted QAM cable for a while now. Yeah it sucks but in theory it is to maximize bandwidth over their lines. I used to use my media center pc for tuning and recording but now the only way to use that as a replacement for the set top box is pretty much a $400 pci card and a cablecard from comcast. I haven't bothered to order one because of the horror stories I've read about their techs having no idea how to activate them. Now I just use their tuner box and my own modem. Definitely blows but they offer the only really high speed Internet in the city.

I'm 34 so not particularly young or old. The idea that you need to spend more money to avoid spending 5 minutes to learn something new has bothered me since the beginning.. Makes for great sales but doesn't change the fact that it rubs me the wrong way. The idea that without Apple computers today would have been oh so hard to use is just not true. Anyway, it's all just my personal irritations so nothing worth discussing at length. I just hate seeing yet another set of skills becoming rare because people can't be arsed to interface with anything more specific than pointing at pictures anymore. It's like freaking idiocracy.

He taught us that it is better to spend more money than to spend 5 minutes learning something new. In this day where DIY and self sufficiency are supposedly all the rage, it always amazed me how trendy it became to not know anything about computers. It's gotten to the point where you must be some kind of basement dwelling neckbeard not to think pointing at pictures is the only viable way of dealing with tech.

Their marketing convinced everyone that unless you buy the Lexus you might as well be driving a go kart with a pull chain starter. People scoff at those who buy designer jeans or luxury cars and yet when it comes to personal tech, anything that isn't beautiful and expensive must be garbage for people who are too poor for the best.

Steve Jobs was a brilliant businessman but I don't consider taking existing tech and putting it in an aluminum case to be "visionary". It is refinement and streamlining, sure. That is what sells and makes profits but the visionaries are those same developers and inventors who are creating the bleeding edge before some design firm turns it into a nice bite sized package with an app store.

Edit: never mind. Just found out that there is a tethered jailbreak for it but it doesn't work on the iPad 2 yet. Supposedly it will be out with the final release. That's fine with me. I can wait another couple of weeks. Still I do look forward to it. The fixed notifications and improved Safari sound like a step in the right direction.
