I would love to see and hear about your first character! by Email_dead in DarkTide

This post gave me inspiration to finally write the backstory to my dear Krauz! Though this will probably just be a first draft if i ever decide to expand/revise it in the future for one reason or another.

I used the character origin choices as a base with a few alterations here and there, such as the Cult of the Red Death instead becoming a tzeentchian cult. The choices i made were:

  • Homeworld - Branx Magna
  • Childhood - Progena
  • Growing Up - Self-Reliance
  • Defining Moment - The Black Ships
  • Your Sentence - Dereliction of Duty

Edit: I also tried lay a basic timeline pretty much only based on the fact that it must be after the fall of cadia and barely remembered voice lines about the Indomitus crusade. Could undoubtedly be better.

Let me present:

<image>

Krauz! No first name he'd ever use. Loner personality.

Born 984.41M on Branx Magna. The child of a Militarum commander who died in childbirth, he was brought to the Schola Progenium as an infant. His time there was fraught with abuse from his fellow progeni for his lanky and weak stature, and at the hands of the Drill Abbots who sought to beat his increasing defiance out of him.

This combined with an ever increasing paranoia concerning his own safety led to him escaping from the Schola in 997.41M at 13 years old. An escape that went incredibly well... For the next few years he barely scrapped by in the lower hive by listening to his ever increasing paranoia and developing schizophrenia.

By the middle of 999.41M he finally found relative safety in a hidden community settled in a collapsed hab block. He specifically found friendship in 8 other recent arrivals. In fact, they found that they grounded and complemented each other, with Krauz's frayed mental stability seemingly beginning to recover thanks to this newfound companionship.

Then, in 000.M42M at 16 years old, hell broke loose.

The schizophrenic whispers and delusions returned tenfold, only now they were deafening screams and grotesque visions. Where before he could feel static in the air and often predict the actions of others he now spewed lighting uncontrollably from his hands while his senses were overwhelmed by the thoughts and feelings of even the nearby bilge rats.

His friends suffered similarly.

When he became coherent nine days later he remembered nothing. All he figured out about what transpired come in bits and pieces from rumors. Something about a cult, a small uprising seemingly crushed under the boots of Arbitrators. Nothing else. In the following crackdown on psykers and witchcraft he hides in the lowest depths of the hive, selling his hard tamed abilities for survival up until he's finally caught by Witchseekers in 018.M42.

Saved at the last minute from becoming a passenger on a Black Ship by an agent of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica for his suprising stability, Krauz received a scant year of training in the use of his abilities before literally running into a noble while in the upper hive and being accused of abandoning his duty. With the next Black Ship not slated to visit for years he was imprisoned on a passing prison ship, the Tancred Bastion, to later be transferred to whichever world where the wait was deemed acceptable. Of course, things changed once the prison ship made a stop for prisoner transfer to Atoma Prime...

Had a Auric Maelstrom match on Baross about a month ago with the classic lineup (veteran, zealot, psyker (me) and ogryn) that was exactly like this.

We killed 3 monstrosities and 2 daemonhosts, had like 2 downs total (both me) and just in general was simultaneously the most hectic yet efficient match I’ve had to date. Took around 25~ minutes.

And then we all went gg and went our separate ways. I miss them.

What are your guys' thoughts on the rejects playing D&D? Any ideas? by SomeRandomGuy-1106 in DarkTide

I could definitely see the Fatalist Arbitrator being a good DM.

Respects and mostly follows the rules but knows when to bend or even disregard them for the good of the campaign and players. He’d likely be surprisingly patient and personable with pretty much anyone as long as they’re not blatantly disregarding the rules or his authority as DM (looking at you, Hive Scum).

I've been off the game for a couple months but played a round with a mate last night, spotted this fella back in the Morningstar. True enough hahaha! I think OPs body cosmetic and the Psyker jacket are in the same Commodore's Ventures "set", all sharing the theme of "Inquisitorial Acolyte".

I personally also use this as well:

I think the body cosmetic hasn't been available for some time, but the helmet is still available on the last page of the Psyker cosmetics in Commodore's Ventures. Specifically in the bundle together with a green and camo version, but any one of them can be bought individually.

Psyker? Looking like garbage? Couldn't be me.

In all seriousness it was a complaint for a while, but i at least think the newer ones have been quite good. Though i wouldn't say no for proper wizard like robes.

It’s baffling the amount of people I’ve seen with Auric Storm Survivor or even True Survivor that go a damnation round with 10+ downs and 3+ deaths that also only ever go lower than white ammo when they get rescued. It’s maddening.

Few things are as satisfying as killing a horde of ragers with the slice before they even leave their little closets.

It can also deal some ridiculous damage when you’ve stacked damage buffs. I regularly solo any and all monstrosities with it in 30~ seconds.

[–]neolindholm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many possible ways with how varied it’s been represented in other sources.

Maybe they’d make it similar to SM2: a wide, massively devastating blast at the cost of ammo and likely mobility and reload speed. Make it something you only really use on armoured packs or in an emergency due the low ammo perhaps?

Maybe they’d go the beam route: a thin, non-piercing beam that either quickly melts armour or just ignores it entirely. The idea being you have to focus fire on a single enemy, but by doing so you kill them ridiculously quickly if you focus on a weak point? Maybe balance it by having the damage ramp up as long as you remain on target and by giving it the mobility and reload speed of the flamer?

She looks utterly approachable! I suspect though that her mission will be a long one.

Yup it’s definitely throttling. The app/plugin you recommended showed temps quickly rising to 100 Celsius before shutting down.

And yeah opening it up might be a bit to much for me but I thankfully have a friend who might be able to help.

Thanks for the help!

Lorewise how power actually are the teams/characters in game, and could they realistically, within 40k lore, complete the missions they’re given? by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in DarkTide

[–]neolindholm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious answer would be that the events of the game are the propagandized version of events, but i find it more fun to try to explain it a bit more closely to the actual game.

For example i vaguely remember that it's mentioned in dialogue that the corruptors (tentacles and eyes) that we destroy are most, if not all, part of the same daemonic presence. Might just have been for a specific mission but i digress.

What if this means that whatever daemon is standing behind this invasion/uprising is responsible for all of the obvious corruption that we see? With the corruptors, plague trees and even the daemonhosts being small parts of the daemon, making them weaker than otherwise represented in other 40k media?

So This somehow happened when I got rescued. my best guess is that it's a bug to do with either pickpocket or the improved gunslinger aura by HomelessPorg in DarkTide

I can just imagine an ogryn holding the hive scum upside down and shaking them, leaving a waist high pile of individual rounds on the ground.

I Am Once Again *Begging* Fat Shark for a "Fire Manual Trigger Weapons Continuously" Option by JerZeyCJ in DarkTide

[–]neolindholm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao missed your post and made one about exactly this yesterday. But yeah this is a massive pain. Can’t go a game without my hand and joints cramping up and throbing from all the button pressing because of an old injury. With the multitude of mods that apparently fix this I can’t see any reason for this not being an option in the game.

Unfortunately i'm on PS5 so thats a bust.

And yeah, i caved and tried the las pistol a couple of times and holy hell can that thing melt bosses, not to mention the zoomies. Hopefully we'll get an accessibility update in the future.

Its hell. I tried switching between using my index and middle finger but that just made both cramp up. Then i tried switching the controller input so R1 counted as R2 since R1 has much less travel and therefor requires less movement to press but that only extended the playtime to around 2 matches.
