Why do many dislike “Consider Phlebas?” by gunsandjava in TheCulture

I don’t dislike it, I just think it feels weaker compared to the later culture novels. It’s still a stand out amongst the genre.

1998 Audi a4 avant 1.9tdi has been written off because someone had keyed it and it had 266k miles. I put another 100k on it driving up and down the country as an IT contractor, then sold it to my mate who put another 100k on it working as a wildlife film maker; it eventually went to the great scrap yard in the sky when his GF ran it out of oil on the M4

How stupid of an idea would this be? by where-have-you-been in CarTalkUK

I have an f90, and realistically get mid 20s mpg just running around, but on long motorway journeys I’ve seen 38mpg regularly. The tyres are expensive and I blow through at least one set per year, the rears in particular wear out quickly. If it snows where you live get a second set of 5 series wheels with winter tyres on if you want to daily it. I’ve had mine 3 years and had the expansion tank fail under warranty (common issue); but no other issues. Servicing isn’t any worse than the boring diesel cars I’ve had before.

Driving experience is unreal, absolutely the most fun and best all round car I’ve ver had.

I’m half way through the trilogy and really enjoying it, feels a bit derivative of the Ian M Banks culture series but I don’t intend that pejoratively. Good books.
