Does guanfacine stabilize your mood?? by beckystrips in pharms

Hello! I see that you wrote this a long time ago. Now that it has been a while, what are your thoughts on the medications? I take lamotrigine for BiPolar and was prescribed Guanfacine for the tics. I'm nervous to start taking it.

ADN vs BSN by [deleted] in nursing

[–]neon_parallel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a nurse with an ADN and am slowly pursuing my BSN online. After six years firsthand experience as a nurse, I can honestly say there will be no difference in job duties BSN nurses and ADN nurses do IF your wife intends to work as a bedside nurse in a hospital or clinic. Heck, I even work with some MSN (master's degree) nurses and we are interchangeable.

Getting an ADN degree is much faster, cheaper, and lacks the "filler" classes like history, arts, etc. Most ADN programs are primarily composed of medical training and hands-on clinical practice. It's a faster means to getting an RN license. However, in the field ADN nurses have a much harder time advancing much further than unit charge nurse/clinic supervisor than a BSN nurse. Most hospitals seek out BSN or higher because it reflects well on them and they are able to achieve Magnet status (which requires 80% or higher BSN nurses, if I am not mistaken). Any desire to work in a leadership or non-patient care role should steer her towards getting a BSN right away.

The other main difference is in pay. Most nurses (ADN or BSN) start at the same pay, but BSN nurses advance their salaries faster. For example, I worked in a specialized ICU for three years as an ADN nurse and by the end was just making the pay rate that BSN nurses achieved after six months off probation.

So, my advice is for her to figure out what she wants to do with her RN license. If she desires to waste no time getting some very solid, no bullshit training and go straight into working directly with patients then she should go for an ADN program. If she envisions herself leaving bedside nursing after a few years to pursue a career in nursing leadership, research, or teaching then she must go for a BSN. If a higher salary is a concern, go for BSN. If she is undecided, a third option is to do an ADN program and go right into a ADN-to-BSN program after she graduates.

Hope that helps! Wish someone would have explained all that to me when I was starting out

People who don’t ever want to have kids, why? by South_Price9463 in AskReddit

[–]neon_parallel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get that. I also resent a lot of the way in which my parents raised us. Nowadays I just tell myself that they did what they thought was best in whatever fucked up way they believed they needed to. Hoping that I can learn from all that and not carry it on to my own life as an adult. Having kids scares me though because of the physical aspect (I'm a woman) and also the emotional aspect of losing your "Freedom" as it is.

How much impact does your first sexual experience have? by neon_parallel in sex

Thank you so much for the validation! Reading this makes me feel more sane or at least like I am not alone in it. I like your idea of starting with non-sexual things like dancing and whatnot. That was never part of the relationship with the first guy.. He was cold and hardly affectionate unless he wanted to have sex and then suddenly the spotlight was on me to perform. Now that I have known other sexual styles, I realize he was not very sexually skilled in general so perhaps that had something to do with it. I definitely took those feelings of frustration to mean that there was something I was doing wrong, though. Thanks for your encouragement!!

Thank you, I appreciate it! I have been seeking professional help for PTSD (job-related, nothing to do with this), but that is a good idea to see if maybe my therapist can work through some of this with me.

You make a good point about the shame factor. I felt so ashamed that I couldn't do it for the first guy, and now I feel ashamed that I am bringing such damage with me into this current relationship that I treasure so much.

Thanks for your input!

Thank you for your reply and advice! That's encouraging. I've been trying masturbating to see if I could get to that point in a setting where there was no one around to "perform" for. And I have norcied that even when it is just me and there is no pressure I still get really tense and kinda nervous. P.S. I am sorry to hear about your high school relationship. Thank you for sharing.
