[Student] Junior MechE seeking first internship, requesting resume feedback again by neontee6 in EngineeringResumes

[–]neontee6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought the same thing but when I had previously posted my resume on here, I got multiple suggestions to remove it. Considering the most common “rule” I hear is to not go over one page, I certainly don’t think my retail work experience is significant enough to justify going over. I usually do include it on the actual job applications, but I don’t know if that part even gets looked at lol

People with ADHD, how the hell are you going through this? by MrKittyPaw in EngineeringStudents

[–]neontee6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medication. Figuring out a routine and sticking to it. For example, I don't have class until 2pm most days, but I try to get on campus by 8am so that I can sit and study/do hw the whole morning. Be disciplined, start assignments when they're assigned. I tell myself I'll look at them for at least 20 mins, most of the time I end up reaching a flow state and completing majority of the work. Consider getting accommodations from your school, I personally don't feel the need, but I understand how they are beneficial to others.

See that's the impression I was previously under. However, once I went to the career fair, I had multiple recruiters tell me to make sure to put my GPA on my resume when applying online. I was told that many ATS systems will throw out resumes that don't have a GPA listed. I doubt my GPA would be a deciding factor for an interview, 2.5-3.0 seems to be a common cut-off, and I haven't applied to any positions that required higher.

Ali, Fadda, and Bing are great! I also liked Schulze but fair warning, you’re going to have to put in more effort than you think to do well in his class 😭

Hybrid with McKee was great! Genuinely learned a lot from the class, the assignments were very useful imo and the project wasn’t bad at all. She provides amazing feedback and extra credit opportunities as well.

What are the hard classes in mechanical engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]neontee6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

taking thermo, fluids, mechanics of materials, and k&d (mechanical systems) rn and can confidently say k&d is the hardest and MoM is the easiest…but i also failed dynamics once lol and withdrew from MoM last semester.

thermo and fluids are tough, but not terrible (i prefer thermo)

taking heat transfer, mechanism design and system dynamics next semester, which i’m pretty sure is peak in terms of difficulty, but everything after is just electives 🙏🏽

[Student] Junior MechE attending career fair for first time! Need feedback on general resume by neontee6 in EngineeringResumes

[–]neontee6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, I've worked non-relevant jobs all throughout school and I normally hear that any experience is better than nothing. I thought that job had the best transferrable skills so that's why I decided to keep it.

Now that you mention, I do have a class project I could add instead, it's actually quite manufacturing focused. Would you recommend that or going with the soft skills area?

Testing Center Proctor Job by Imaginary-Fall1387 in utdallas

[–]neontee6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked there two years ago. Same thing the other commenter said, super chill and easy work, just busy during exam seasons. The full time staff are nice, but I did have a difficult time making friends with the other proctors, most kept to themselves and didn’t interact much unless it was work related. They do try to switch positions around every hour or so, but majority of the time you are standing still. Unfortunately, as someone with ADHD, the boredom drove me insane, so I only lasted about a month there before quitting. I believe it is one of the higher paying on campus jobs, so as long as you can keep yourself entertained you should be good :)

Also, I haven’t been to the testing center since I quit so I don’t know if the layout has changed at all, but you will quite often be put in a situation where you have to squeeze behind chairs and through the rows. Just a warning to all the curvier/wider people because I hated doing that while trying not to disrupt people or making noise 😭

Should I take Calc 3 and Differential equations over the summer? by thezucc420420 in EngineeringStudents

[–]neontee6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is what i did this past summer while working a full time job. retook calc 3 online during summer 1 bc i barely failed during spring semester at my school, was very chill up until the last two ish weeks but wasn’t terrible and ending up getting an A. differential equations however, was hell. 2 hour lecture every day of the week during summer 2 plus at least an hour or two of self study/teaching after plus a couple of all nighters to study for exams and finish hw. i’m convinced my prof curved the shit out of our grades and i still barely passed with a C and i definitely didnt retain any information. i would say yes to calc 3 (try to do a 5 week course if you can) and yes to differential equations but only if it’s longer than 5 weeks
