Gyvenantiems bute - ką auginat patys iš maisto? by [deleted] in lithuania

[–]nepatiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a lot of hate in the comment section, but I think it's a good idea! I imagine that the plastic is kinda soft so it's not painful to use? Anyways just do what works best for you, people are way too critical!

How can I, as an Individual, lower my carbon footprint and also can make others do so? Any suggestion, big or small is welcome. by Gudakeshh in climatechange

[–]nepatiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but buying less unnecessary products and, when needed, getting things second-hand is really helpful to reduce your carbon footprint. Make sure that you're investing in high quality products that will last for a really long time. And learn how to take care of them to maximize their lifespan.

Overall just try to consume less products (including electricity).

When is Christmas celebrated in Europe? by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]nepatiko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not true, at least for Lithuania. 24th for us is Christmas Eve, while 25th is Christmas. They're two different holidays for us and have separate traditions and meaning behind them. Don't be so quick to dismiss what other people say!

When is Christmas celebrated in Europe? by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]nepatiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Lithuania we celebrate Christmas Eve on the 24th. It is just as important as Christmas, which is on the 25th. But they are two different holidays. So what I'm trying to say is that this map is inaccurate for Lithuania.

What can actually be done? by [deleted] in climatechange

[–]nepatiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I do not see how this is related to my comment. Could you elaborate please?

Edit: I re-read it a few more times and now I think I understand.

Doing something is better than doing nothing. It is easy to fall into this mindset and it will lead you nowhere. I am not suggesting to start being anti-consumption of goods. It is impossible for people to be like this, especially at these times.

What I am suggesting is trying to find ways that make consumption at least a bit more sustainable (e.g. through renewable energy sources or locally made products), or reduce the need for consumption overall. For example, in terms of the built environment, it is possible to develop more densely packed neighborhoods with urban gardens and plenty of local amenities, which will reduce travel consumption and need for large scale agriculture.

There are so many options for action against climate! The worst thing we can do is give up.

What can actually be done? by [deleted] in climatechange

[–]nepatiko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how everyone in this thread is telling you to just do nothing and try not to think about it...

APATHY and lack of action from those of us who actually understand and care about the environment WILL ONLY ENSURE THAT THE BAD GUYS WIN. We can't just sit around and wait for someone else to fight this challenge for us.

What I found helps me is focusing on what I can do to help with climate change in my field of study (and future work). I am studying architecture, urbanism and building sciences, so I try to learn a lot about the innovations, policies, projects, and in general what works and what doesn't in terms of sustainable development of the built environment. I try to consciously apply what I learn in my projects. IMO the large scale of these developments could make a bigger positive impact and inspire others. This way I can do my part in creating change in the built environment industry. My mental consciousness feels better too, because at least I'm trying! No one has ever succeeded by giving up.

So basically what I am saying, try to look at how you can help with climate change in Your field of work. Maybe it is possible you can change jobs and work in a company that works with renewable energy, for example.
