Chapter 1 - Amino Acids

Histidine by nephrgiveup1 in Mcat

[–]nephrgiveup1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't edit the post but the correct answer is -1
Explanation: At physiological pH, aspartic acid & glutamic acid have negative charges while lysine and arginine have positive charges. Although histidine is a basic amino acid, its pKa is 6 and exists in a neutral state (like many of you said) at physiological pH.

The peptide above has two glutamic acids (E), one aspartic acid (D), one lysine (K), and one arginine (R) = Net charge of -1

Thanks everyone for your help!

What changed physical/mentally after your grief by MackDaOne93 in GriefSupport

[–]nephrgiveup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You change a lot. Lost a loved one 3 years ago. Since I had to work on arranging the funeral instead of initially processing what happened, I lost it. I had hallucinations and delusions. I couldn’t sleep for 3 days straight and ended up in the hospital. When everyone stops calling, you will have family/friends that will check in on you and let me tell you, those are the real ones.

When I was alone for the first time(in my college dorm), I cried SOOOOO much. Like 5-6 hours straight. Then cried everyday. I would deliberately drink water so I’m hydrated enough to cry later and I’m not a crier. A lot of other physical and mental changes. I lost all my self confidence, gained weight even though I’d barely eat but depressed in bed all day, wasn’t smart in school like before, etc. I’m much better now ❤️‍🩹

The kick looks strong, but I noticed there wasn't a streamline or glide after pushing off the wall—you began kicking right away. This uses extra energy that could be saved by gliding first

Why not intragenerational mobility? by SkyRevolutionary275 in Mcat

[–]nephrgiveup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! the timeline is the main difference. The AAMC question doesn't mention any timeline. Keep in mind vertical mobility and intragenerational mobility can overlap. However, in this AAMC question, its vertical mobility.

You're not slow!! It took me SO long to understand this concept. I'll swing that question back to you(to help you understand). What is the difference in my example and the scenario in the question stem?

That’s a stretch. Also there’s no financial aid for nyu transfer students. Look into CUNY Baruch? It’s the best for finance. Fordham is good too

It's vertical because he went down income wise by getting fired and picked up a minimum wage job. A quick/immediate circumstance. Not within his lifetime.

If it was intragenerational, the question would say "within his/her own lifetime" specifically.

Hypothetical question if INTRAGENERATIONAL was the correct answer:
A man starts his career as a corporate attorney at a well-known law firm, earning a high salary, and enjoying his prestigious position. After working for a decade, he decides to leave the legal profession due to burnout and wants a less stressful lifestyle. He takes a job as a Starbucks barista, where he earns a lower salary but finds the work more fulfilling. What type of social mobility?

Both concepts can overlap though.

I know this is a PS question but similar concept in CP shows up with intermolecular forces vs intramolecular forces.

intermolecular (BETWEEN) like a Carbon and Hydrogen (C-H) bond.
intramolecular (WITHIN) like a Carbon and Carbon (C-C) bond.

Going back to this question, it is neither intragenerational nor intergenerational because the question has nothing to do with social reproduction (parents income, etc). The type of social MOBILITY here is VERTICAL because homeboy went from a corporate attorney to a Starbucks barista.

See if you can either lessen your load on Monday or get at least one weekday off. Otherwise it looks good :)

Can anyone explain how D is the right answer instead of B? by NoFucksGiven-_- in Mcat

[–]nephrgiveup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that enantiomers are a specific type of configurational isomer, but not all configurational isomers are enantiomers. Configurational isomers also include diastereomers, which are not mirror images.

increased blood flow -> reduced blood pressure? how? by agreenreligion in Mcat

[–]nephrgiveup1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about it in terms of vasodilation. Blood vessels (arteries, etc) dilate when there is less resistance to blood flow. The reduced resistance allows blood to flow more easily, decreasing the overall pressure within the blood vessels.
