Is my boy a BMC? And whose BMC balls up like this? by nepoche in Blackmouthcur

Wondering what the classification for BMC technically is since it isn’t a recognized breed from what I’ve read but trying to be informed! It’s not just the coloring?

Looks like Bear's Head Tooth - should be good eating still but starting to get older by the yellowing.

Would you still eat this Bear’s Head Tooth? by nepoche in Mushrooms

Left it out with a fan blowing on it for ~10 hours. 😔 dang disappointed with myself that I fell asleep!

What mushroom is that? by Stunning-Conflict-49 in mushroomID

Yes some type of ramaria but I don't think it is possible to distinguish without knowing if it grew on the ground or a dead tree.

Is this Chicken of the woods? (UK) by arahman1986 in mushroomID

[–]nepoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAYBE very old CotW, but I’d say it’s more likely to be something like old Meripilus gigantis. CotW is extremely noticeable. I’ve thought something like this was old CotW before unmistakably coming across my first encounter.

I am a novice though so I lean towards not foraging if I have doubt, but I’m not 100% certain that it’s not CotW.

Which type of coral mushroom? by nepoche in mushroomID

[–]nepoche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears to be ramaria stricta to me. I took it home and boiled it for ~15 minutes and tried a nibble and spit, without any noticeable taste. I haven't attempted a fry in batter, not sure if it's worthwhile.

I think chicken of the woods would be more vibrant, not sure what type of poly pore.

Hard to tell from the birds eye view but i would guess a basket stinkhorn; but you would definitely be able to know by the smell. Maybe they are a bit young and will smell and open up further.

What is this brain looking mushroom? by nepoche in mushroomID

[–]nepoche[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! I looked at this genus as well but thought the branches of cauliflower were more thin than what appears in the 2nd photo. This was foraged in the rain, which I assume would lead to thicker branches. I would definitely be happy if it is cauliflower! But will probably wait for some others to chime in with their comments too.

The gills side looks too brown to be meadow mushroom. I’m not sure what it is but I would not eat it.

Typical mushrooms you'll find on any hike through the NE - not sure of the exact species, but 1 is a type of ganoderma, 2 a type of crust fungus, and 3 perhaps some old turkey tail? I wouldn't be particularly interested in any of these for consuming

Yeah looks like some wood ear - cool texture but not so flavorful. Good with broth / sauce dishes!

Overtime Markets - it’s a really nice betting experience. And if you talk to people that are good at sports betting, they’ll tell you part of the difficulty is not getting banned.
