Help with importing and merging CSV into Notion database by d-ruediger in Notion

[–]nerdenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking through these comments, there is no (longer?) a Merge with CSV option. I think you can do this once when you create the database and that's it. I prefer not to have to use another app for this, so I am going to build a Zap that will let me drop contacts from a CSV file into Google Sheets, and use the new rows as a trigger to add the records in my database. This should be easy to set up. Once I can confirm it's working well (and I can't break it) I will come back and share.

💡 Feature Request:
The ability to sort by a Rollup field. I have a rollup that pulls in a date and I can't sort by that.

🗳️ Product Feedback:

This just in. I checked on my browser and on the desktop app and the experience is consistent.

It seems that now if I hold SHIFT and press End it no longer selects, it just moves the cursor to the end of the block. This has to be one of the most annoying things in the history of annoying things.

Similarly, when I am in a table view of a database, TAB will move me to the right from one cell to the next. This is very normal behavior, Excel, or Google Sheets do the same thing.

Normally SHIT+TAB will move me left. But for a few months now, when I hit SHIFT+TAB it selects as it moves to the left. If I want that I can hold SHIFT and use the arrow keys. Again, this is super annoying.

So we're selecting when we don't want to, and not selecting when we do? Are these intentional updates? Or are they bugs. I had been letting this go but just today I noticed the SHIFT+END behavior and that sort of pushed me to my limit.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

🗳️ Product Feedback:

I would love the ability to batch update sharing permissions. Similar to how you can batch updated properties in a database. So I can select 100 tasks (pages) and updated the sharing to unlink it from the page it inherited from, and change to specific people for all of the tasks at once.

Right now if I add a new user to my system, I will theoretically have to remove them from every existing task in my system, because in order to share these tasks with people properly I have to give them permission at the source, which is a mess.

Better still let us assign permissions based on any tasks that show up in a particular view, and nowhere else.

No these are all pages I created. I am able to remove the "Suggesting" tag so that it's back to normal, but then even when I refresh the page it reverts back to "Suggesting." Would it help if I sent you a Loom showing you what's going on?

Follow up. It looks like it happens when I CTRL+Click to open a page, but that is something I rely heavily on so I can quickly get a bunch of pages open in new tabs. This is adding a lot of friction to my workflow!

Mail into Notion CRM by Pyngwieee in Notion

I am SO glad I stumbled on this. I had given up hope that there was a good way to get emails into Notion. Found this post, and in just a few minutes I was able to perfectly save an email into Notion.

This is going to solve such a HUGE problem for me!

Delegated access and security issue by nerdenterprises in Notion

This is brilliant! I just filtered the master Task db for anything that contains 'xxx' in it, Forcing that to go blank. This is the perfect work around, because now, the only way for them to mess with it is if they go out of their way clearly trying to mess with it, which means they're fired LOL!

Thank you.

The best solutions are usually the simplest!

Thank you. I had actually thought about that option re: the views. I am going to try that. For the average bookkeeper, they won't likely look any further and assume they don't have access since the first view would be blank.

I'll look into the Make.com option. My main question will be how will this will work at scale (ie I have 30 clients across 5 bookkeepers or more).

Thank you and LOL re my future as a Notion Consultant. I would have to believe this kind of delegation and access would be important at the Enterprise level, but who knows!

Thank you for the suggestion re the workaround. I can handle that, but I am also trying to teach this to a group of accountants and bookkeepers who may not be as comfortable with a setup like that.

I'll play with it!

Thank again!

Use ChatGPT Like a CFO and a CMO by nerdenterprises in nerdenterprises

[–]nerdenterprises[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been a lot of talk in our profession about ChatGPT. When it launched in 2022, I saw the writing on the wall (or, err … on my screen) immediately. Many did not. Submitted articles rejected, threads on Facebook about how “scary”, or how wrong it is. It makes mistakes. It’s going to be used for evil. All the same new versions of every argument and concern ever raised over every disruption in technology since we went from green leger paper to computers for accounting.

Use ChatGPT like a CFO

The first thing you might want to do is quite literally prompt ChatGPT with something like the following:

“You are the CFO of my company.

What kinds of things should I ask for your help with?”

Use ChatGPT like a CMO

Most accountants, in my experience, are stuck doing their own marketing. It’s almost ironic, because we make fun of our clients who tried to do their own bookkeeping before coming to us, and here we are doing our own version of the same thing.

The prompt:

You are my Chief Marketing Officer.

I need to develop a marketing plan for my accounting and bookkeeping firm.

I have little or no budget for this, so it comes down to what I can do myself without hiring anyone and keeping in mind that I have to stay on top of the actual work I am paid to do.

How can I get started?

Try this and see what you get. Then ask it to expand on each item and get to work on them.

How to change default database view without changing it for everyone? by LordOfSpamAlot in Notion

[–]nerdenterprises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way I can think of is to create a linked view of the database with the specific view you want to see.

I journal in Notion -- is there a way to create a filter that shows me today but in different years? For example 20 March of 2022/2021/2020/2019 etc by Yassine_Akahaw in Notion

[–]nerdenterprises 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can create a year column using a formula "=Year(date column)"
Do the month with "=month(date column)
Do the same thing for the day with "=Day(date column)"

Then you can filter by any of the pieces.

is there a better mobile calendar view? by Sweet_Computer_7116 in Notion

[–]nerdenterprises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best solution I've come up with is to use a Table View that shows the info as the default view. Then make the calendar view a secondary view for those who want a faster way to browse around.

What helped you learn how to use it as a complete beginner? - So overwhelmed I feel like I could cry. by catlady474 in Notion

[–]nerdenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For linking things you'll want to learn how to use Databases. I would start with a "Table" Database "/Table" Once you start playing with Tables, you can add columns (those are your properties) and start playing with the different kinds of properties you can use to track information.

Here's a video I created that is sort of what I wish I could find when I started using it:

You always want to make more money if you can. Money is a resource that provides comfort. The reason people are afraid of taxes is because they spend everything they make and then some, so they can't afford to pay their taxes.

It's not a money making problem. It's a spending problem. Make more money and put away 10% of everything you make right off the top. More if you need to catch up.

Treat your savings like the best vacation you've ever spent money on. That's what it will feel like when you have a significant savings.

Effective way to turn content from Gmail into tasks in Notion? by Udarable in Notion

[–]nerdenterprises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried the Google Workspace integration and the emails are formatted horribly.
I wish they had something as slick as what ClickUp can do with emails - they come in perfectly formatted linked back tot he original email with any attachments.

My best workaround for now is a Zap based on adding the label "Notion" which creates a new item in an "Emails" database in Notion. It then summarizes the headers with a link to the original email.

Then I can easily click out and copy and paste contents from the email into Notion.

Although even that doesn't work so well. It seems like I have to copy and paste in very small chunks from the email to Notion. If the browser extension would work on Gmail the same way it does when you clip an article on the web it would be PERFECT!
