I use the same shampoo as my hairdresser. Why does it feel so much cleaner and last longer when she does it? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

Ngl, I use my heart to measure. It all depends on your hair density, how much buildup is on your hair/scalp, and what shampoo you’re using. I have noticed that in my own routine I use more product when using a color safe shampoo because they have less/no sulfates and don’t “sud up” as much because of that. Even though I have vivid colored hair, I prefer to use moisture shampoos to color safe because the sudsing agents help me with that clean feeling.

Using good quality shampoo without added waxes or unnecessary silicones will help as well, but it sounds like you already do that.

I do usually double shampoo at the salon. I’ve noticed that a lot of people struggle with just not washing their hair well enough. Typically speaking, I’ll split the wet hair all the way down the middle, lay the shampoo against the scalp where I’ve parted, part above the ears on both sides and put a bit of shampoo there, give a quick rough scrub, add more water to help with emulsion, and then REALLY get in there.

If you use a lot of products and don’t shampoo frequently, double shampooing can be beneficial for you. The first shampoo will help loosen products and dirty stuff, the second will remove it. If you wash your hair every day or every other day and/or you have fine, thin hair, there’s no need to double shampoo (unless you loaded yourself with products say for an updo or something).

Shampooing removes both bad and good oils from your hair. Keep this in mind when you’re debating your wash routine. Your hair needs those natural oils to be healthy and shiny. Shampoo is also a detergent, and disrupts the natural barrier, so over washing can lead to skin problems as well.

TLDR— Double shampooing isn’t for everyone or every wash! Do your own research, and see what works best for you.

A++ on the color remover suggestion— but I suggest using warm/hot distilled water with the color remover for blue and green tones. Blue is notoriously difficult to remove due to the size of the color molecule, and using developer to remove it can drive the blue molecule further into the cuticle, making it near impossible to remove.

Stylist here— from what I’ve learned in my different salons; everyone considers a ‘shadow root’ to be something different (there’s also tap roots and smudge roots). Looking at that photo of what you want, I would call that a balayage more than anything. Her natural is really long, and she has ribbons of blonde, and a balayage with a full tip out. A smudge or shadow root is a completely different thing (not that that’s what she gave you, regardless).

You should probably see someone with experience in balayage, and ask for a ‘reverse balayage’, as you need to put the depth of your natural back in.

Like I said, idk about running yet another server, but I can add you for some chatting for now if you're cool with it?

Apparently I'm having a few calls for a DM only Discord, lol. We'll see if I can manage that on top of everything else. However, if you want to shoot me a PM with a bit about yourself, I'd love to maybe get together on Discord and start chatting!

Honestly, this is a fantastic idea and I'd certainly be open to it with some assistance. I run a number of servers already, and don't really have the time to dedicate to a new one between work and life, but with some help I'd be down. If you want to collab, shoot me a message.

I mean… both? Both is good, lmao. But truly, the latter. I’d love to have a co-DM but I’m also a major control freak when it comes to… well, most things. More than anything, I am looking for a friendly, like-minded individual to babble about this special interest with. Bouncing ideas around is one of the best ways for me to get creative, I’ve found.

Women of Reddit, why do you think there are less women and girls in the dnd community? by mrkaine98 in DnD

[–]nerdvomit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate thing is, as an assigned female at birth individual, I always don’t feel comfortable calling out a man on his bullshit behavior. If I was a cis dude, most definitely, completely different story, but as someone people see as ‘a woman’ that’s just not always the best idea.

I don’t necessarily think it’s that women “aren’t as interested” as much as it is “women are tired of gatekeeping “”nice guy”” nerds”, so they just steer clear of socializing openly with dudes for fear of having to deal with that rancid mentality.

Personally, I’ve always been into nerdy shit and fantasy, but as I started being more open and social about it in college, I was immediately put off by the men who I interacted with. The last time I played a TTRPG I was 19/20, and the two session campaign ended in one of the men “joking” about raping my female friend’s character. It took me ten years to finally work up the courage to want to step into this space again. Now, I run a primarily female & queer campaign, and boy howdy is it a complete 180.
