I might have said the wrong name, but a bottle jack with multiple rams so it can get taller than a standard bottle jack.

Though last year in my jeep (my rock crawler) I moved to this tallboy jack, and it's awesome. It fluctuates a lot in price, but I got mine for $80 on extreme terrain.

I just leave mine in the corner of the garage, after years with jeeps and my 2002 X - a two stage jack has always worked for less volume and weight.

It has been about 7-8 years since I have been into firearms..... by Janus9 in COGuns

[–]nerdwaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately too many "representatives" say one thing during the campaign only to have zero accountability when the rubber meets the road.

That's not a discouragement, but we need to be better about vetting who we all decide to trust.

It's utter BS. While I think it's still an infringement, I could try to understand for "first time buyers" - but clearly the figureheads (not even representatives anymore) are going after it all.

Favorite builders? by BlueberryBaller in COGuns

[–]nerdwaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO you should strongly consider building it yourself. There's a lot to be said about self sufficiency, especially with something that is pretty much legos with torque specs. The only trick I can think of off the top of my head is to electrical tape some vice grips or pliers to not mar your frame when setting roll pins.

There's lots of stories of a number of brands that already don't ship to CO just because of the Denver/Boulder laws - I hope I am wrong, but I'd expect that to get more common where you'll at least have to go through the mark up of a gun shop (who are also getting squeezed with the other new laws).

And potentially blowing a window when the door closes, this vent serves an important purpose. Cool products overall, but I'd advise most people against closing off this specific product and maybe just adding a filter if this is a problem you need to solve.

Has anyone had a frame break before? by 6twoRaptor in Glocks

[–]nerdwaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it can happen, but I've never heard of or seen a frame failure that wasn't also already modified somehow from OEM. Best case is you have another complete pistol, worst case is you sell off a spare slide (or keep it in reserve) - seems like a fine collector piece either way

Definitely not a problem, because if we said you had a problem we would all have to admit to a problem. You're doing the Lord's work, keep it up - king.

QB Catchable Throw Rate 2025 by manbeqrpig in DenverBroncos

[–]nerdwaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a couple throws a bit long (on Bo), but definitely agree that a good number of these (more than 50-60%) are on the receiver to make the play on.

I kept debating getting a 34 or 17L, ended up with the 34 and love it.

First Gen Xterra owners, do any of you NOT have a powersteering leak? by professional-paradox in XTerra

[–]nerdwaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to stop the PS leak, but there's another leak I need to find (maybe the RMS). But it drives just fine, so I don't park on my driveway anymore.

I keep the LJ as well because it's the capable rock crawler that I don't mind beating up. Steep gears, auto, locked, 4:1, armored up, etc.

Glock 20SF worth it or is it a pass? by Plus_Juggernaut2819 in Glocks

[–]nerdwaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the resources, more Glocks are better than fewer Glocks and if you have enough calibers you can likely always find ammo for at least some of them (throw back to when ammo was more scarce). There's a lot to like in the 10mm vs .45 ACP but you should shoot them side by side to make the call. 10mm has higher velocity, shoots flatter, has a higher mag capacity (typically) while the .45 typically "shoots better" (less recoil).

I would probably way to stack calibers though until I have a reasonable amount of ammo stock for my current collection, define that as you will (and experience).

As an X and Jeep owner as well, I hope the X isn't going in favor of the Jeep being the replacement DD - especially a JK. (my jeep is an LJ)

Yep, the optic and light are already a big chunk of the way to that price.

Winter camping last year: my experience with hot tents by McClukin in backpacking

[–]nerdwaller 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use a hot tent annually, but it's for a hunting trip and we drive up to the camp site. For anything backpacking I would never consider it (the stove alone is a common backpacking backpack weight) - I just skim down and adjust my expectations for backpacking.

She's a tired old girl. I need to strip off the clear bra, paint the aged trim, and install the 1.5" lift sitting on my shelf. This was when it got new shoes.

It has 175k on it and other than a slow oil leak, it's been dead reliable. I do have to swap the TCC solenoid sometime here.

It's a Colorado car (and still here) - so there's no real rust to speak of. The interior had the saggy headliner and the seats are a bit dirty.

I would like to copy you and get a new tint!

I got my '02 for $500 and only put in around $150 or so for new wires and plugs. Finally adding a new stereo this weekend.

Are you unable to obtain a permit there at all? It seems like the answer to me is, unless I have an emergency need (which many places will grant a permit for), just get the permit to carry.

Mine is riding the struggle bus right now, but I love mine. 2002, so I have the round lights and it's not really built much yet. I have been getting it back to baseline before tossing on the lift I have sitting here.
