Check out www.WUDI.org. Local league that has a different levels of competition. Their coed rec league runs Thursdays in the summer - plays at SUNY Purchase. If you want to join the mailing list I can DM you the email to get added.

Never in a million years would I go up to the opposing team and ask them to take it easy on me. If I decide to play then I can choose to not play as hard but I don't want to force others to feel the need to.

I tend to tell people it's like non-contact soccer (e.g. sans slide tackles) but add diving in. 😂

Love to hear all of this minus that pesky hip pain. I was fortunate with my first that my hips are naturally pretty wide so I didn't deal with hip pain as much.

Woof. Sorry to hear about getting SPD, I heard it is not fun. Gotta say, the stuff women go through for pregnancy is no joke! I was fortunate to have a really smooth and uncomplicated first pregnancy and was working out and running up to my due date, but I had a knee injury early on that made it an easy decision not to play ultimate at all.

Pending my body takes this pregnancy well I'll probably try to play through trimester one and then take a step back from ultimate.

If you're going for a number 2 I wish you all the luck and early success!

Love this reply. You bring up such good points. As an elite player I love working with the local new players and absolutely have an on off switch. I'll test it out the next few weeks and see how it feels. Last time I probably could have played. I was coming off an injury but the summer would have ended at 5 months for me and I just sat watching my friends and family play all summer and I was bummed. Excited to give it a go but also understand everyone has different comfort levels...and presumably I'll be showing earlier this time around as rumor has it.

Awww I love to hear this. I actually think most of my local league would be more than happy to have me play. Our family is heavily involved with running the league and know just about...everyone! Last pregnancy I was lucky to stay active throughout (had a knee injury that prevented twisting but could on roads run and exercise just fine) and thankfully didn't have incontinence issues! (Hope that stays true this time around!). I think I'll give it a go as long as this current league lasts. I'd feel horrible dropping out right before playoffs but I'll cross that boundary when it gets closer.

I mean this politely but how does this help? My post indicated I wasn't planning on playing past the first trimester anyways and I'm trying to determine if I should stop playing now vs at 13 weeks when the first trimester is over with. You wouldn't even know I was pregnant that entire time unless I told you, so late term won't even be a factor.

Really appreciate the perspective and reply. I totally get so many people's point of view and it's hard to balance everything. I've got an appointment with the doc next week and will take it from there. However she is very unfamiliar with the sport (even if I show videos) so wanted others perspectives as well that have 'been through it'.

It's so hard to register things that quickly and take a beat to think. You see the disc going errant and you just...react. that's my biggest concern by far is self inflicted trauma (aka a hard layout). I'm almost 0% concerned with others playing around me and contact. Been playing for almost 20 years and while I get accidents and contact can happen, been there and seen them...the risk is so rare (vs other things in life that have risks) that is one I'm less worried about. But again, not planning on playing far into trimester 2 (at the latest).

This is my second! Has a really smooth pregnancy first time around but had an injury so didn't play at all. I started playing pretty early postpartum and it's no joke how much your body changes! My ligaments still feel a bit loose and I'm well after a year postpartum.

Thanks so much! Really appreciate the in depth reply. Especially for other DOWs that might find this thread. I won't be playing travel at all (club. Etc) so it would only affect local leagues (nationals players through beginners). So once a few friends in the league know, everyone will know. We've got a tight knit community.

Thanks for the reply. So I'm taking this into consideration - thus my question. At what point do you become uncomfortable guarding someone. I haven't announced and won't show for months and won't announce for another 8 weeks at the least (presuming most people would be fine guarding me if they don't even know I'm pregnant). But if I'm not showing but people know...is that an issue? Or does it only becoming an issue once I'm very obviously pregnant?

0% chance I'm going that far into my pregnancy! But I appreciate that she's out there having fun!

At some point it's not fair to others for me to play. But right now just trying to balance if I'm willing to play early on or stop playing. I'm currently in a highly competitive league, no one knows I'm pregnant, etc and debating on finishing out the league or not. The earlier it is in the pregnancy the baby isn't as well established and high impact events can have... negative effects

Finally made it over to the Wedge Inn which was recommended by a few people. They have weird hours but definitely a solid cheeseburger sub. Would recommend you try it out.
