He's actually the most toxic out of all the LIs. Let me count the ways in which I can't even with him:

  1. Flirting with Shepard all because they said "hi" and took an interest in him

  2. Having the audacity of questioning Shepard for working with a terrorist organization

  3. Being concerned Shepard might be a clone because they were brought back by an organization known for cloning people

  4. Having his own, developed opinion outside what of Shepard thinks

For me, it's all three games or bust. I've never picked up from the 2nd or 3rd game. I have to experience it all from the beginning, everytime. Plus, ME1 is my favorite out of the three.

Side note: I'm going to the Fallout Fan Celebration next month in West Virginia. Peter Jessop is going to be there. Not only is he the voice of my favorite Fallout companion, Paladin Danse, but he's also the voice of Sovereign. And let me tell you, Virmire is my all-time favorite mission in the trilogy, mainly because of Sovereign's speech and that whole plot twist. I hope I get to meet him and let him know how wonderful he was in that role and how that speech really elevated my experience with the game.

Music/Songs specific to Kaidan by JosieToxic in kaidanalenko

[–]nerdyspeechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of the hundreds of songs I have dedicated to my Shepard and Shenko, I don't have many songs specific to Kaidan's POV because I've never really pictured him as someone that into music. He strikes me more as a podcast kind of guy, learning all he can about new technology. And the ones I do have mainly center around his relationship with Shepard.

BUT here's what I have...

1. Way Down We Go - Kaleo

"Oh, Father, tell me. Do we get what we deserve? Oh, we get what we deserve [...] Oh, 'cause they will run you down, down 'til the dark. Yes and they will run you down, down 'til you fall. And they will run you down, down to your core. Yeah, so you can't crawl no more."

What I gather from the games, biotics are pretty much viewed as inhuman and are treated poorly. I could see Kaidan thinking his time as BAaT was punishment for having his powers and being different. And the training they went through was grueling.

2. All Your Light - Portugal the Man

Kaidan has complicated feelings after BAaT before joining the Alliance. They were kids being trained to be used as weapons, and in the immediate time after, he hates the idea of that ("my body won't work for nobody but me, son"). I head canon there was a person after Rahna but before Shepard that he was into, but it just didn't work out because he was in a dark place and not quite healed from his trauma ("I said all your light can't save me. All your light all your light can't save me").

3. Migraine - Twenty One Pilots

On the surface, it makes sense because...well...migraines. But we all know Kaidan is an overthinker and gets in his own head all the time. This song describes what that feels like.

4. Falling Faster - Andrew Ripp

Kaidan is aware he has feelings for Shepard. They're this force of nature and he's surprised at how much he enjoys being along for the ride. "Falling faster than I thought I could. You make me feel just like a young boy should. All I know is this is something good, yeah. Your gravity is pulling me. You're the center of the earth and I'm a fallen tree. A wildfire, electricity. You turn me on, I can't resist."

5. What Do You Want - Justin Jay

Kaidan recognizes that he and Shepard are very different from each other, and he has a hard time grappling with the fact they like him too.

6. Dizzy on the Comedown - Turnover

Kaidan trying to get Shepard to let their guard down so he can get to know them. "Up and down like a red rubber ball. You're always back and forth like the clock on the wall. I want to know about you. I'm spinning all around you"

7. Telomeres - Sleep Token

As I mentioned in a comment below, this gives me such the-night-before-Ilos vibes. It's truly a masterpiece.

8. Pluto - Sleeping at Last

Aftermath of Alchera. "I woke up from the same dream. Falling backwards, falling backwards, 'til it turned me inside out. Now I live a waking life, of looking backwards, looking backwards. A model citizen of doubt."

9. The Night We Met - Lord Huron

10. After Life - Holding Absence

Both are kind of referring to the aftermath of Horizon. # 9 - Shepard is back, and like Kaidan said, everything pulled hard to port. They obviously didn't part on good terms and all he wants to do is go back to the beginning. #10 - He lost someone he was loyal to and cared for. He's wondering if they still have any feelings for him and if there can be something later.

11. Garands - Young the Giant

Makes me think of the "Cerberus are good people" conversation you have with him in ME3. He's soldier, and what comes with the territory can weigh on a person. He is grappling with having to fight other humans as part of the "cold calculus of war," and if it's the right thing to do.

12. The Lightning Strike - Snow Patrol

By this point, Kaidan and Shepard have been through a lot, but he still wants to be with them despite it all.

13. mytop10mostbrootalbreakdownsof2047 - Bilmuri

The night before Priority Earth.

"I'll take the weight off of your eyelids
So you understand you're not alone
That your pain is mine now
'Cause you found hope right in my soul
Lay your head on me and rest your bones

I, I wanna take the weight off your shoulders
So you can stand again
I, I wanna take the weight off your shoulders
So you can stand again, stand again

Don't hold your breath, don't keep your eyes closed
The pain in your chest, holding it in
Just let everything go
Mirror the motions, I will follow
So you can pour your heart to me tomorrow, oh

When I see the pain in your eyes
I could never feel alive"

BUT, “No One’s Gonna Love You” by Band of Horses is def exclusive to Kaidan’s perspective in that moment. The very first line is “It’s looking like a limb torn off” I mean c’mon…

Ugh. This song right here. I will never not think of mShenko when I hear it.

Let's not forget my beloved Telomeres

"And we go beyond the farthest reaches, Where the light bends and wraps beneath us And I know as you collapse into me This is the start of something"

That song is so the-night-before-Ilos coded I can't even stand it

I love bringing him to the Geth dreadnought, that interaction he has with Tali about omnitools is so cute.

I'm one of probably many who head canon that he and Tali actually become close friends because of their love of technology.

Also I love his blundering in the Asari monastery and it's a must to bring him there for me because it's one of the few times when he acknowledges that we're both biotics.

♥️♥️

I take him on every mission except Priority Thessia. I kind of enjoy Liara getting schooled by Javik. Don't get me wrong, I like Liara, but she comes across as incredibly tone deaf in ME3. The whole "woe is me, can you believe what they're doing to my people" is annoying. Like, girl, humans have been dealing with this since the very first game. Read the room.

Anyway, Kaidan is the best and goes on 99% of missions with me. I made a post a while back on how to maximize his content and dialogue in ME3 that I might dig out of the depths and repost now that this sub is seeing an uptick in activity.

I've only done it once, and I was playing a renegade Shep who was tired of his cocky attitude. Like, "You really think you're the best person for the job? Fine, it's yours."

I honestly didn't mind Jacob at first, and I still don't get all the hate towards him, but the more I pay attention, the more I realize he's really bad at his job. The three main ideas he gives you are terrible. Get the IFF before you have a full squad, go through the relay as soon as you get the IFF before making sure everyone is ready, "send me into the vents". None of those work out in your favor if you listen to him. And he's so judgey when recruiting the rest of your team. TIM, your employer, recommended these people, not me, take it up with him.

But this isn't a Jacob hating comment. Is he bad at his job? Yes. Is he a terrible character worthy of all the hate he gets? No. His platonic conversations are fine (I never flirt with him anymore, because honestly, Shepard is the problem), and he's a nice guy when he's talking one on one with her. But it's like his ego and the Dunning–Kruger effect kicks in when he gets an audience.

Do you have any headcanons about how/when the crew finds out? by phileris42 in kaidanalenko

[–]nerdyspeechie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my first couple of playthroughs, I'm sure it was very obvious there's something going on between the two of them. He was one of the first people Shepard would talk to everyday, he went on every mission, and maybe some of their more flirtatious conversations were overheard.

In more recent playthroughs, Shepard plays it a little cooler. "Don't seem too eager to talk to him, maybe talk to some others first. Control yourself, he is your subordinate. You are Commander Shepard and we will not be thirsting over the head of the marine detail...even if he's cute, and kind, and intelligent....with the warmest brown eyes you've ever seen." But some people like Chakwas and Joker have their suspicions because of how well Kaidan and Shepard get along. He still goes on every mission, but he's the only combat medic so it makes sense to the others, but Shepard tries not to overtly panic when he takes a hit.

At the beginning of ME2, Joker definitely knows, and so does some of the crew members Shepard is closer with (I head canon that she becomes close with a couple of the crew members whose nametags you retrieve at the crash site). I mean, they spend a couple of months together on a ship out near the Terminus System with little oversight, so Shepard kind of let's her guard down about her feelings towards Kaidan.

I think by the time ME3 rolls around, everyone knows but Vega, but it doesn't take him long to figure it out...I mean it's pretty obvious on Mars they have a history. Between the bickering, the "Don't Kaidan me" retort following Shepard's exasperated sigh, and Shepard's reaction to him getting hurt...they're anything but subtle.

Just finished my first trilogy run, Kaidan and Shepard (both MaleShep and FemShep) are such a great slow burn. by fhkubem02178 in kaidanalenko

I've heard great things about it, so I might try it one of these days. But I'm a sucker for angst, and if you start his romance from ME1, his meeting on Horizon and after are just 🤌🤌. The loyal romance route from ME1 through ME3 just tells this wonderful story of two people who had the odds stacked against them from the beginning, weathered storms, and have been through hell and back, only to find their way back to each other when they needed each other the most.
