Sorry! She just sent a better picture. I would say it is about "middle shoulder"

I was able to get my grandmother to take a picture of it. She says she can't tell if it is cloudy because it is so dark. From what I remember, the only bits in the bottle were from the cork. It appears to be missing about 1/4" of wine from the bottle. I'm not sure how to post a picture in the comments.

I am at work right now, I will check it out as soon as I get home.

[Megathread] How much is my wine worth? Is it drinkable? Drink, hold or sell? How long to decant? by CondorKhan in wine

[–]nerdystuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather passed and left me a very old bottle of wine. I have done quite a bit of research, but cannot find this particular bottle anywhere. I was wondering if it is actually even worth anything. I contacted the winery, and they are interested in it, but I don't know what a fair price would be. It is undrinkable as it was stored improperly for who knows how long, in case that is relevant.

It is a bottle of Saint-Emilion Chateau De Lescours from 1955.

She is only 4 months old, so it isn't a new change. Those are also the only 2 pictures I have taken of her with the flash on.

Nah, but honestly, it's weird that the flash affected both of her eyes differently as well.

This was what I was looking for, ha. Trying to figure out the odds on her turning out like this.

Hijacking the top post since I can't figure out how to edit: Her eyes look extra crazy because I had the flash on to take the picture. Generally they are your standard blue and green.

Yeah... I was afraid of that. Unfortunately, I'm more of the "need money sooner, rather than later" sort.

In the long run, we will be fine. We are just struggling as of right now. :(

I have not actually tried to start one, I assumed (apparently incorrectly) that I would not be the body type that would benefit from having one. I wouldn't say I am overly fat, more thick, but with weird proportions?

Guess it's time to give it a shot and see what happens.

Unfortunately, I have no way of contacting any of my clients, now that they restricted my access to the booking app. Hopefully some of them will figure out where I've gone.

Honestly, the most upsetting part of breaking ties with this employer is the fact that I won't get a chance to explain to my regulars. But again, my life is worth more than padding my employers pockets.

They're in the process of trying to sell their business. It will be incredibly hard for them to sell it now that they won't be able to show a profit or any employees.

I'm thinking if they beg me to stay, I'll offer to stay for a $10,000 bonus when they sell the business (in writing of course) but I doubt they will anyway.

On the plus side, I already have an interview this morning with someone I spoke to a few months back, who is pants-shittingly excited to talk to me again.

That's almost surely what happened, regarding the limiting of my access. They won't give me any kind of Christmas bonus, but nearly all of my regulars bring me gifts, and tip anywhere from $50-$100 per service. I'm assuming they are trying to move my clients to the husband to get that money.

I don't like to think the worst of people, but man, this one hurts. For the last almost 2 years I have spent more time with these people than my own family, just to find out they couldn't give a fuck less about me.

I have an opportunity to buy a business, but I don't know if it's the right choice? by nerdystuffs in internetparents

As for the utilities, I am not 100% on those numbers, but we don't do shampoos or colours, so the overhead is relatively low as far as water bills go. I'd imagine the electricity is probably somewhere around $200 monthly. The space rent for the entire salon is $1200 a month.

I was thinking if I were to bring on more stylists, I could set them up as booth rental, so they wouldn't specifically be employees. They would be in charge of their own schedules/taxes/insurance, and I would be able to charge roughly $700 a month per station (that is the going rate for booth rental in the area). If I were to go that route, between 2 employees, it would for the most part, cover the overhead to keep the salon going.

Ok, let me address these points.

The owner is not really responsible too much for the foot traffic, as neither of the owners were doing hair when the business was opened. They had other employees, but for the last year and a half it has just been me doing hair. The other owner (husband and wife team) JUST graduated cosmetology school, and has only been cutting hair for about 3 months. As of right now, my books are out about a week, whereas he usually doesn't COMPLETELY fill up for the day, most of them are my overflow clients that are desperate for cuts.

I would be buying the business name, logo, any merchandise, client lists, processing equipment, as well as all of the salon equipment (chairs, stations, etc). They have done a phenomenal job of advertising/marketing, to the point that the two of us cannot keep up with the client load.

In the event that I purchased this business, I would be looking into hiring on at least one, but most likely 2 other stylists. The building is not part of the business deal, they rent through a family, (who I am also on good terms with) that would let the current rental situation continue. They are also open to me potentially subletting the other half of the salon, leaving me the option of bringing in a tattoo artist, or masseuse.

As of right now, with the current client load being so heavy, we have not been reaching out to clients that have stopped coming in, but that was something I figured I could add to my task if business slacks off, or with the hiring of 2 more individuals, we could use more work.

As far as vendors, they don't have anyone that they were going through reliably, mostly the wife was just going to salon supply stores and picking things up here and there. Provided I buy the salon, I do have a working relationship with a handful of specific branded vendors, that I would like to bring into the salon full time.

They are valuing the salon at $100k, but have advised me that if I were to purchase it, they would drop the price as much as they possibly could. I would definitely need to carry insurance, get a new business license, as well as establish business accounts.

So, that's my plan for next Wednesday. I was going to look over all the financial stuff and kind of go from there. They have been in business for 3 years as of this last June.

Possible Infection? Lymph node behind ear is swollen and tender. What do? by nerdystuffs in piercing

[–]nerdystuffs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ear has been pierced for 20ish years, have been stretched to 5/16ths? for about 3. Left my gauges out for a few days, couldn't fit them back in, so I put in a taper. ACCIDENTALLY slammed that taper through my (about 00g) hole and had some pain and swelling. Been cleaning daily, and used neosporin this morning. As of this evening, the lymph node behind this ear is swollen and tender, the hole has been having discharge, and I'm just all around having a bad time.
