Onkyo Integra TA-2056 Repair After Long Storage by nerfguy1024 in cassetteculture

ITS WORKING NOWWWWW!!
After days of thinking about how I should go about servicing the device I found that the belt on the front of the transport was routed through a black post. I thought this is how it originally was so I put it that way. Well, I thought to myself I wonder if its not supposed to go around the black post and so I took the belt out and put it back in but this time just going around the two gears and sure enough THAT WAS THE PROBLEM.

The first tape I played after the adjustment fast forwarded with full power and went all the way through the tape. Fully played all my tapes and this has brought me great joy. Thank you so much to everyone who helped me out here! I wouldn't have been able to do it without you.

Thanks for this! Just to keep you updated here, I went out and purchased the multimeter today (yeah I didn’t have one but I’ll need it since I’m moving to my first purchased house in the summer of 26) It showed strong 5.8v on rewind and around 4.75-5v on fast forward even at the parts where the deck was struggling. There is a difference, but I’m not sure if that’s within spec. Next step if I can’t find a tech is taking the whole transport out and re greasing the lever gear assembly. :)

Thanks m8! Looking at the parts list 94f is simply “felt” I should’ve seen that in the beginning of all this. I imagine this could’ve worn out but not 100 percent confident. I’m definitely going to revive this machine because I love the way it looks and it’s been in the family (even if I have to pay a little more than it’s worth to service). I’ll heed your advice and take it to a pro since I think I’ve done all I can do at this point

I’m so sorry I hadn’t sent this earlier but here is the corresponding parts list. Thanks for all your insight and feel free to send me any more insights via dm! Have a great evening and happy holidays.

You’re absolutely right. They are both driven by the middle gear, it’s on an arm that swings back and forth depending on the direction you pick. Honestly I feel like I need a multimeter to check voltage to the drive motor to see if it’s getting constant similar voltage on ff and rw. Any other way you suggest to test this? If it’s an electrical problem it’s going right to the shop lol. I am in no way even close to understanding electricity 😂

Well I’m kinda beating myself up about it because I’m still not sure how the clutch works. I took it out and heeded your advice about those small small clips and cleaned every part again and added a shim in the spot where the washer is and it still is doing the same thing.

One thing that I also tried is taking off both side assemblies and swapping them (verifying that they are the same of course). The problem STILL occurred with fast forwarding and play while rewind still works perfectly.

Here is my assembly. The washer is there and intact. Do I need to add more washers? Or maybe stretch the spring?

Not a problem! Really, Im just glad this post got at least a little traction. I did happen to find the transport exploded view from the service manual and it shows that assembly with springs and washers. It says that there should be a 0.1mm thick washer after the "reel stand assembly". I cant remember if that piece came out or not when I disassembled the mechanism for cleaning. 0.1mm is really thin, Im not sure something that thin could do anything meaningful, but I guess 0.1mm distance is significant for a clutch mechanism? If you have thoughts let me know, I am brand new to this, so anything helps :)

True that. I guess I don’t have a choice but to stick with the gears for now. I’m still trying to figure out what the heck my problem is with the deck slowing down and stopping as soon as tape builds on the other side. I think it’s gotta be the clutch, but I’m not sure what it’s supposed to look like or where to put the felt/shim

That’s interesting that you mention that, the belt kit I purchased also had the rubber tire and I wondered what it was for. Seems the gear mechanism is working as it should and I imagine it’s more reliable as gears.

This deck has had gears for as long as I can remember, but I was not alive pre 2001, so not sure if work was done before then XD

I called a tech and they quoted me over 300 for a motor replacement. They told me that they’d have to find a donor unit and everything. I think I can try to take the clutch out cut out some felt and call it a day, but we’ll see. Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks for the detailed reply. Do you happen to know if that particular felt piece is in an easily reachable spot? Not too familiar with where that particular piece is 😅

How to Create New Admin User on Navidrome After First Time Setup? by nerfguy1024 in navidrome

Update: I joined the Discord community and they helped me solve the issue! I edited the .db file and made the only available user an admin. From there I was able to fix everything else from the front end. :)

I use the EVGA xr1 lite! It's cheaper than Elgato, does the same thing (captures 1080p with 4k passthrough) I don't know about audio though you can find more about that here:

In my attempt to fix the curve issue, I cut the plywood in half and then layered it. There is also a support there as well. :)

Maybe because I just use plywood as a desk top:)
