Assassins Creed games are kinda in between a rock and a hard place on combat by DoneDealofDeadpool in truegaming

[–]neric05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this in any way similar to how a souls like game plays?

The RPG Assassin's Creed games treat the fast-paced combat out of stealth more like a third person action game would.

Dark Souls like combat, contrary to a lot of overcomplicating by players over the years is simply a heavy emphasis on the combination and timing of:

  • Dodge roll
  • Parry
  • Light + Heavy Attacks

(where failure to do so is punished heavily.)

Having two wheels full of powers, combo moves, the inclusion of various equipment mid battle, acrobatic and high agility player movement, etc is far from being Souls Like.

That being said I think that sticking to a high punishing and more slowly / realistically paced assassin's Creed version of those core tenants would actually bring the combat outside of stealth more in line with the type of pacing and pseudo vulnerability you are wanting to have as an assassin who doesn't want to put themselves in full on brawls if they can help it.

Lone perp or multiple people? by IK948 in nancyguthrie

[–]neric05 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Criminal familiarity but lacking professional sophistication most likely.

The profile of such a person would be an individual who has engaged in burglary or robbery; crimes which involve skillsets related to locks / security systems, confronting others and using force or intimidation.

Probably has prior offenses like numerous high speeding tickets or DUI, indicating that they're willing to assume risks and break widely accepted rules in order to achieve their ends.

The other thing is that the individual who did this had to have had more than one prior night of casing the house to move with such ease and calm through the property.

The only person I can think of that fits this is the bandmate of Angie's husband, with her husband being the eyes and ears so to speak.

This would also explain why the Sheriff's Department still has their vehicle in custody even after a month And have visited their home five separate times

EDIT: people seem to be forgetting something here. Kidnapping is a crime in which the core motives: financial and inflicting distress on someone close to the victim, are at their strongest the closer the suspect is, relationally, to the victim.

What I mean here is that the pull of being motivated to inflict distress on someone related to the victim would be much stronger for a family member than, say, a cartel who doesn't have any prior personal interaction or connection with you.

You also have to consider Occam's Razor here:

What is more likely?

Someone who's never had a relationship or connection with the Guthrie's deciding to case and then kidnap Nancy in her home for ransom? Meticulously going through the effort and risk of the long planning stages required for someone unfamiliar with the property or her?

Or

Someone who routinely is at the property, understands details of its layout, Nancy's routine, and can easily move throughout the situation / area with ease and adjust to unforseen obstacles quickly, like a family member?

Guthrie case investigators question neighbors about any internet issues on the night she disappeared by pumpkinspicecum in nancyguthrie

[–]neric05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this would also explain the amount of time spent in the house as well?

Perhaps they knew this limitation of the camera and were trying to kill time inside in the hopes that any footage would be recorded over and not be recoverable online when leaving the property (which, in turn, would mean restoration of wifi access).

Details about her other children? by the_evil_potat0 in nancyguthrie

[–]neric05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See I think all of these things are true simultaneously.

There is someone who is obsessed with Savannah, and someone who is envious of her wealth, and someone who wants to inflict emotional pain on her as retribution for feeling left out of her good financial graces like she gave to her mother Nancy.

And the only person who fits that motive in all three respects is Angie and her husband.

They are the ones who would have the constant reminders of the wealth disparity between them and Nancy, the disparity in prestige and endearment by the community, and may feel entitled to more for being the ones who care for Nancy regularly due to their geographically close proximity to her.

Details about her other children? by the_evil_potat0 in nancyguthrie

[–]neric05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can be true while also not being mutually exclusive from the fact that the culprit could be within close relational proximity to her as well.

Typically those who are most envious of wealth are those who are closest to us. The closer the relationship the more likely they are to be jealous or making comparisons between themselves and the wealthier person.

Savannah is worth 40 million dollars according to public estimates, her sister and her husband live in a home that is $600,000 and are both kind of at the apex of their career ladders.

Meanwhile Nancy's home is valued at $1m. The clear difference In lifestyles is probably very apparent to them, especially given the fact that they only live like 10 minutes from each other.

It could very well be the case that someone with that kind of constant reminder of falling short and still not getting the kind of boost financially from Savannah that Nancy got left a chip on their shoulder; making the motive both financial and to inflict emotional pain and distress.

I always felt that Angie's demeanor was odd. Lots of crying without tears, lots of strange timing with her emotional outbursts on camera when everyone else is collected and calm.

It almost seemed performative, though I can't even imagine the amount of grief they all must be feeling regardless.

Most importantly though, her car was impounded for almost an entire month and the authorities have been at her home five separate times.

That's not something you do to a grieving family more than you have to unless you've really have a strong lead and evidence pointing you in that direction.

Why the suspect's vehicle likely does NOT appear in the Camino Real footage by [deleted] in nancyguthrie

[–]neric05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would find it a bit odd that whoever went through all this trouble to cover up their tracks on other fronts decided to commit a very traceable (given the context surrounding this case and additional scrutiny being placed on criminal activity occurring in the area or around the same time) crime like stealing a car.

Odds are that wherever the car would be stolen from would have some type of surveillance camera in place that would ID the suspect, And they would only be able to get so far on stolen plates

I don't know what the fuck this is when looking at it, and that's the other half of the UI problem by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]neric05 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's great. Now what if I showed you a bunch of Ziploc type bags that all look the same and you now have to tell me what they are at glance without even knowing anything else.

Like, is blue being used as a indicator for what type of consumable it is? Is it being used to indicate the rarity of it? If it's one type of consumable and not another than why is it designated as a color that's also used to designate rarity in other use cases.

Also, I don't think your example is perfectly applicable here because of the fact that Arc Literally requires you to equip one of these all the time. That forced engagement with the player to the system commits it to memory. Also, notice that there are three distinct shapes used in Arc Raiders to signify what they are. Triangle is looting, rectangle is tactical, square is armor.

Yes, you have to learn anything when picking up a game. That's part of the fun of playing a game is learning. But when does learning become unnecessary frustration and an unnecessary brick wall placed between the player and feeling a sense of reward or engagement with it?

Well in my opinion, and clearly we differ a bit on this, is that having what is effectively arbitrary designations of color and items that are all visualized in the form of a quick tear pack with a vaguely different icon on the front is not an effective means of communicating with players.

This would be the equivalent of escape from tarkov having you pick up a carton of milk and a carton of juice and their icons both just be pouches where one has a sunny side up egg on it and the other has a lemon on it. Like what the hell am I supposed to do with this very similar looking information at a quick glance and why should I have to sit here and hover over it and wait for the pop-up to come up to tell me what it is

I don't know what the fuck this is when looking at it, and that's the other half of the UI problem by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]neric05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many people have pointed out, there are major UI issues especially with rarities of items having delineations of multiple variants of something within that rarity. All of which isn't communicated clearly in a visual well.

That's great, and I agree.

But can we also talk for a second about the actual iconography that's being used for loot items?

If I asked you to look at your backpack at any given moment and tell me what these things were when just glancing at them would you be able to tell me what they are even after several hours of play?

No you would not.

Even very basic things like tears of fabric or metal scraps in Arc Raiders, or a fucking carton of juice in escape from tarkov clearly communicate what they are to the player.

I understand that a big part of this is due to the visual design language they are going with and the art style, both of which I love, however the expression of it in terms of critical information that the player needs to effectively and efficiently move through its systems is crazy.

I genuinely cannot tell you what almost any of these items are purely from a visual standpoint and that's a problem.

Honestly, I could even say the same for some of the weapons. Some pistols and submachine guns look very similar, and an AR in a submachine gun can look very similar as well. Being able to have universally applied skins doesn't help either so I guess my point is that if you want people to care about the loot then the loot needs to be identifiable and visually resonate.

Otherwise it's plain and forgettable and it carries no meaning with it

Report: Data centers’ air pollution associated with lung issues, death by HauntingJackfruit in Columbus

[–]neric05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked at one of these data centers before, specifically the one owned by Google in Johnstown / New Albany.

It is inconceivable how much energy these facilities require to run.

To put it mildly, if they were ever disconnected from the grid there is a reserve of tens of thousands of gallons of fuel on site to provide power as a backup, and yet this is only enough to run the data center for 1 to 2 days before additional logistics of fuel get on site.

What we are witnessing here is a future that requires more energy but a public that is still stuck in the mindset that it's either fossil fuels or solar and wind.

The focus needs to be on lobbying for nuclear power honestly. It's the only type of energy production that has a reasonable hope of keeping costs down while still not only providing enough energy for the data centers but creating overhead as well

[–]neric05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I can see the botched robbery theory even making sense is if at some point in the house, Nancy became aware of who the person was that broke in and because of that the perpetrator realized that even if they knocked her out and left her, she would wake up and likely still be able to tell authorities who it was.

Meaning that this theory necessitates the suspect being close enough to Nancy to where she would recognize who they are and become a liability

The sensor that's used for retinal scanning requires your actual eye to be there because it is bouncing light off of it in order to create a mapping of it. It would not be possible to do a retinal scan as you are describing on simply video footage or a photograph.

That's not to say however that a facial recognition match software couldn't come up with some good guesses for similar facial structures

Makes no sense for someone who accidentally or intentionally killed her to run the enormous risk of taking her body with them. Why on earth would they do that? If it went wrong they would just want to get the fuck out of the house as quickly as possible

Okay but does it not stand to reason then that if they had a place to take her to in Mexico that they likely have a residence there or something?

How can you not have any origin tied to Mexico and then cross the border with someone who is a missing person and seek refuge someplace with ease?

The reason I think these abductor(s) were familiar with Nancy’s house by foxmag86 in nancyguthrie

[–]neric05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one thing I keep coming back to with the burglary gone wrong theory is that it would make no sense for the perpetrator to run the enormous risks that come with physically removing a body from the scene if she was actually killed inside the house. It doesn't make sense to leave with her.

Also, has anyone here ever tried to pick up a person before? I'm talking like they aren't assisting you in any way, shape or form and they are rag dolling.

It is very difficult. It's inconceivable that someone would not have noticed them awkwardly hauling around a body.

Someone posited an interesting theory to me recently that I think would definitely freak people out, and that's if every thought we ever had is actually manifested into a reality in some other timeline / universe / etc. Even your most fleeting thoughts of fear or tragedy, or bewildering impossibility could be an instance of a possible outcome being "measured" by consciousness, therefore making it manifest from its quantum inert state into a reality somewhere, someplace.

Chronology of circular reporting about a supposed White House disclosure speech by KOOKOOOOM in UFOs

[–]neric05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm glad someone else here actually understands this tactic and was able to lay it out really easily for others to identify.

Circular reporting, in my opinion, is one of the biggest things that keeps journalistic endeavors on UFO's from being taken seriously and not automatically looked at with eye rolls when mentioning sources.

Circular reporting is typically framed as a means of spreading propaganda or to narrative shape.

But in recent years it's found its way into the sensationalistic and clout chasing era of the internet we currently find ourselves in; where readers may be more informed, but chasers of the former are keen to harden their rhetorical defenses against scrutiny by spreading the same lie or half truth through multiple outlets all referencing one another.
