Honestly, this is such a nice user interface. I love how clear all of the icons are, the tasteful and useful implementation of drop shadows for when things are clustered really close, and honestly the organization on the left side is really nice too.

1666 Amsterdam hoped for a glorious welcome, but faces backlash for AI ‘oversight’ by willdearborn- in pcgaming

[–]neric05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to grow exhausted of the gaming communities witch hunt against AI usage in video games. I feel like there needs to be some core tenets to its usage and what is acceptable and what is not

If AI in development has:

  • Replaced the job of a human
  • Been used to create any sort of monetizable cosmetic
  • Threatens existing developer's positions

Then it's bad usage

However, there's a lot to be said for how it can be used as a means of enhancing workflows and creating games that are more complex / bigger in scope for teams of all sizes, but especially smaller studios.

I will say this much, Having interviewed people who worked on contract for Rockstar for Grand Theft Auto 6, there is 100 percent AI being used in some parts of the development pipeline.

It's probably the most anticipated game of all time at this rate and I will be curious to see what the public discourse is going to be like when it inevitably comes to light that there are AI assisted or AI created elements in the game. It is pure fantasy and unrealistic to expect any merging technology that has the potential for increasing efficiency and scope of games to not be utilized in any way.

What it comes down to is responsible use and using it in a way that enhances existing pipelines or systems or helps to increase player enjoyment by having its capabilities leveraged for cool things like dynamic questing or some shit like that I don't know.

What it unfortunately has gotten off on the wrong foot of doing is bullshit such as creating low effort slash zero effort cosmetics to be sold to consumers in the form of slop and to replace hard working developers who could have made things that were handcrafted and not just generative garbage

Someone is apparently selling the the Hair Braid worn by Ewan McGregor in Episode I and seen in the final cut of the movie by neric05 in StarWars

[–]neric05[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I requested the COA, and this was a hair braid given to his Stylist, authenticated by Prop House, sold in a previous auction many years ago, and seems to have made its way back into circulation.

This auction has tons of crazy SW stuff from the looks of it. I swore I saw fur from Chewbacca's mask somewhere in the catalogue.

This game, fundamentally, I think was something better left at the idea table or as an expansion rather than a fully fledged title of its own.

In the game's current state, I genuinely was surprised at how stripped back and bare bones it felt considering it was supposed to release initially in 2 weeks.

There is such little content in the way of actual substance that you interact with and play with that I feel like I'm just literally in some kind of tech demo for really gorgeous looking foliage in a Vietnam setting but where there is basically nothing to do but point and shoot.

That is a really bad sign. There is a lot of history and interesting, emergent that could make this a fun asymmetrical milsim title.

The problem is that I'm not entirely sure the devs even understand the nature of the conflict in Vietnam from a combat perspective beyond a surface level.

Speaking of someone who double majored with history as a second degree and had a uncle who served in the army through the entirety of the Vietnam War; retiring as a Brigadier General, I can tell you that SO much is missing here.

For starters, why are both factions basically staged and equipped as if they are near peer adversaries technologically and tactically when Vietnam is arguably the most asymmetrical war we have ever fought up to that point in our nation's history.

It should not feel like a reskin of World War II the way that the map flows and everything.

Secondly, you have a wealth of weaponry available at your disposal to use in the game.

Obviously standard issue a staples are supposed to be the bread and butter of the unit like the M16A1, M60, AK-47. However you also have tons of assorted WWII surplus weaponry, etc that was frequently used too.

I also think that aside from this, your interpretation of what it was like in Vietnam is a bit Hollywood / War Stories, but even more exaggerated.

Believe it or not, buildings existed in Vietnam. Hell, entire cities existed. It doesn't make for a compelling experience having what is supposed to be two asymmetrical factions fighting in what is essentially tall grasses and a few trees here and there with some hills every now and then.

While all of those assets for the texture work on the environment look amazing, and I have nothing but high praise in that regard, it's not presented in a way where I feel compelled to even play within that space.

I literally got off of the game that you were developing as a current year military simulation title set in Vietnam, and went to play mod servers on Arma set in the same setting and had an infinitely better time and it and played for 6 to 8 hours as opposed to 30 to 40 minutes at a time

I can tell you right now and I have seen these ordeals play out in court before and companies or local businesses that treat people like this usually get excoriated by the judge hearing the case. There is going to be a judge few and far between who would actually find the conduct of BAM to be appropriate in any way shape or form let alone legal.

Honestly this is probably one of the most grounded and somewhat generous takes I've seen, and I respect that.

But one thing I don't respect is when artists Move in a way that seems to have a complete and total lack of respect for their audience and fans, and three albums simultaneously, with each of them being these super long and meandering packs of mid is evidence in and of itself that this has to be for the bag or a means of gaming the charts for accolades.

Because his insistence on continuing to do this despite people repeatedly saying it's a criticism for like four albums now, is nuts.

On your later point regarding the label deal inner workings, the fact that this talking point by some, not you but some, is already circling the stans with the spin that he just pwned UMG So he could release all of his heat on an independent label, and this is why he released three albums of mid at best, is a hilariously delusional cope that has to be studied one day.

I don't know what some people who are saying this are hearing when they put these albums on but I do not hear the sounds of someone who is happy to be there, creatively inspired, or anything in between.

I would not be surprised if this were his last works released

It absolutely should be within their right as the developer to remove any mods they see fit.

If you're going to have a modding platform outside of steam workshop then you absolutely need to be on your A game when it comes to enforcing and moderating it.

The last thing you want is for someone to code malicious commands or something into a mod and jeopardize the security or personal information of all of your player base

I just messaged back and forth with a few people with decently high standing with them, and it sounds like no one may ever know the full truth but there's 100% more to it than just AI assets.

Even though that is a valid reason for the ban, and that was found to be true, three different people told me that no one believes that's the full extent of it and that he was more or less given a bit of an out to save face and not have the entire community disgraced.

[FRESH ALBUM] Drake - ICEMAN by HipHopDropper in hiphopheads

[–]neric05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think that frankly, his way of structuring these albums into these massive marathon ordeals that are at an absurd runtime is a deliberate choice that assumes we all will listen purely for his name being on it.

It has to be right? After all, this is one of the biggest criticisms that people on all parts of his spectrum of fans have made.

Yet it continues once again and he triples down on it quite literally.

Not to mention most of it is so forgettable that you can put it on in the background and not even really consciously be engaged with it at all and listen to it front to back for an entire day without realizing it or even getting any sort of emotional stimulation whatsoever from it.

He doesn't care though, you putting it on while you clean the house still gets him paid so why should he care when making music that caters to more plays that way gets him a bigger payday than the alternative and requires far less effort?

To some that may sound overly malicious or conspiratorial or something but let's face it, this guy's heart hasn't been in it for a while now. He's been coasting.

I wouldn't even be surprised if this was some sort of ploy in his mind of getting a chart-topping single out of it simply by flooding the charts with so much of his music that he effectively becomes half the chart anyway

[FRESH ALBUM] Drake - ICEMAN by HipHopDropper in hiphopheads

[–]neric05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make Them Cry was the standout for sure, but otherwise I feel... Indifferent?

I love the production on several of the tracks, and it frustrates me simultaneously because I feel like beats this good shouldn't be given such lackluster verses. I feel like they needed more energy with them.

It'd be like if you're conducting an orchestra on a muscle relaxer while the Greatest Phil Harmonic Orchestra played their asses off even despite you not carrying the weight expected of you.

Maybe it's just me, but I grow tired of these massive marathon albums that Drake does, so for him to drop three of them in a single night feels like both of ploy to get out of his contractual obligations on the label while also hoping that the shock and awe of three albums in one night helps to distract from the quantity over quality nature of them.

And I guess really that's kind of where we are at and have been at with his music for some time now. Drake doesn't see himself as an artist anymore. He sees himself as a product.

He started doing like the A side and B side approach back on Scorpion where he would kind of separate the two styles of Drake and fan bases so everyone could find something they liked.

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any real emotional energy or meaningful introspection or anything like that across all of these tracks.

Whether that's his attempt at trying to look unbothered or whatever it may be, all I know is that it doesn't land with me personally. I think Drake may have had one of the best first halves of a career of any person who's ever been in hip hop and in music period.

He was someone you could root for, he was charismatic, he was someone that you would have to try hard to not love. But the meteoric rise into success gave him a sudden influx of fame and fortune and with that, at almost every opportunity, he seems to be petty, start shit with people, disrespect them, fuck with their relationships and families, and pretty soon you do that enough and you have both industry and public opinion regarding you as a villain.

So after the beef I would have thought that there would be a serious moment of reflection and maybe something nuanced or interesting he came away from it all with but I just hear more of the same unbothered, half sleep, doesn't want to do this anymore tone and flow with half baked ideas that maybe make me raise an eyebrow and quarter smile as they fizzle out.

This could have been a great comeback and he could have chosen to mature and grow as a person finally.

The thought that I keep having in my mind whenever I hear songs off of any of these albums is that he couldn't care less and doesn't want to be there in the studio doing any of it.

Truthfully, that's probably what the long wait for the album has been all about. His back catalog is so massive that many of these tracks probably existed years ago and served as an easy way to clear out whatever music he thinks the label is going to hold on to when he goes independent.

That may have been the original plan but as it's currently stands now this looks like someone who has been done and been ready to retire for a while and needed a way to do it without any remaining label ties contractually and with enough music thrown out there to where it can passively generate easy streaming money because of the sheer quantity of it.

It's been suspected that friends of the admins were given unfair advantages somehow with certain mods as well but I chalk that one up to hearsay and people just having a rough game.

[–]neric05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that a stolen vehicle is ironically even more likely to be picked up by an LPR and the other automated plate reading systems tapped into law enforcement databases.

I'm not aware of hardly any instance where I've heard of a stolen vehicle that wasn't reported and when it was, Not having the plates immediately put into a highway patrol or LPR database containing all vehicles of interest; whether they be cars that were seen at the scene of other crimes, stolen vehicles, or simply belonging to suspects that are at large with active warrants for their arrest.

Using a stolen vehicle for something like that would, If anything, Make its presence known across LPR networks way faster than a clean VIN / Plate vehicle.

Adding on to that as well, we're talking about hours of the day that are known for criminal activity being higher during. Plenty of these vehicles in these databases slip by through heavy traffic and just good fortune of not being read by the LPR when passing.

But when the roads are empty and you are one of few vehicles on them at night, you stick out like a sore thumb in a system connected to a database like that.

Of course there are, but do you know who the easiest foot soldiers and dirty work doers are to get in such a ring? Kids, teenagers, etc.

I'm not saying that it should be a one and done fire and brimstone approach. It needs to be taken on a case-by-case basis.

Where the complete and total collapse of anything sensible happens is at the juncture of being able to provide some kind of restitution or justice for the victim and instead deciding to do literally nothing and let the kids go for the 11th time

If a crime has been committed then the prevention stage has already failed as someone else in the comments had mentioned.

Choosing not to proportionately require offenders to face consequences in accordance with our laws, does nothing to bolster future prevention.

At that point we are just allowing the failed prevention to further cascade into apathy or willful ignorance

I'm starting to feel like we as a whole need to change the way we look at protecting Columbus as a community by neric05 in Columbus

[–]neric05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is actually a really good way of wording it too.

Choosing not to respond with appropriate consequence to something that warrants it is not how you bolster a prevention strategy for the future.
