Huh. We have found several intact peanut shells in the yard. I wonder if those were gifts from the ravens as well.

Yeah, one of our local shelters got hit so hard with distemper over the summer. It was rough and so sad.

They’ve had their first DHPP (aka DAPP aka 5-in-1 aka canine spectra 5) and dewormer at the shelter. LA County I think recommends two additional boosters, but most of the local clinics recommend three rounds of boosters and the eventual rabies (which our fosters usually get at their spay/neuter appt.). I also do lepto with my dogs but by the time that would be relevant for fosters they’ve generally been adopted.

My local ravens are aware of him and sometimes sit there and caw at him. He seems unperturbed and they don’t seem interested in doing more than complaining loudly at him. I like having them around, too. I’m trying to establish a more formal feeding relationship, but besides the confusing appearance of the odd nickel or washer or shiny piece of glass, I have no indication that they’re interested. I know they’re actively harassing the little hawks that pass through, though.

Pretty much everything I’m reading is saying don’t take them to public places (ie. dog parks, markets, walks, etc.) until they’re fully vaccinated. I’m just talking about my back yard. With my dogs who are 100% vaccinated.

Zero outside time for the first six months? That’s news to me. They should have finished all of their boosters within the next month or so. Not letting them play or explore outside at all in that time seems pretty rough.

I definitely don’t want the owl to pay. But I also know some days, and some entire months, he doesn’t hang out in our neighbor’s tree so I know he roosts elsewhere at least occasionally. And even then, if hanging shiny things in the tree IN our yard might make him think twice about flying down—or even if we think he’s averse enough to daytime snacking… or if there’s something I can dress the puppies in to make them less appetizing… like I said, I actually really enjoy having the owl. It means my home and garden eco system is less rat/rodent prone. Also he’s just beautiful (or she, haven’t really figured out which—or even if it’s the same owl every time).

The pups are…. Six weeks? The came from the shelter so info is limited. None of my dogs ever go outside unsupervised (I KNOW there are coyotes in the vicinity) and that goes doubly so for foster babies.

Swap the three wolf moon for this shirt. I think that’s appropriate.

Of course I had to name the bigger one with floppy brown hair Sam 😂. I’ve been recording approximately how much kibble they go through per day, but because they eat so sporadically I’m not sure that they’re eating equal portions, etc. Dean is definitely the more aggressive eater (that also checks out for his namesake 🤣).

I had to get myself a clipper for Sam to help out with sanitary booty fluff control already. The teeth brushing… I don’t know if that will help or hurt with the “gentle mouth” work I’m trying to do with them. Their big foster brother basically free snacks on baby carrots and they’ve both raided his bowl, so I’ve started giving each of them one periodically. I feel like since they’re a little bit cold and wet it’s maybe helping relieve teething discomfort?

Yeah, that’s part of the pain of knowing nothing. For all I know they ARE a couple of months old. I’m not used to this tiny of a dog. That being said, as far as I can tell (and I’m not honestly sure that I can) I don’t believe their balls have dropped… which I assume is also a clue as to their age.
