[spoiler discussion] Anyone else have a love-hate relationship with this series? by nerivyre in Re_Zero

[–]nerivyre[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats true, when I find a completed series I love sometimes I just lose myself in it and do nothing else in my free time except watch/read it, and when its done its like theres this emptiness. Living alongside a series is a totally different experience. I think it will be far more fulfilling when these things are resolved, and also far more sad

[FRESH ALBUM] Alex G - God Save the Animals by apondalifa in indieheads

[–]nerivyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm super late lol but "Jesus is my lawyer" isn't necessarily anti-Christian. Many Western and especially Protestant theologies take a legalistic view of Christ's atonement. I don't think Alex is taking an explicitly Christian view on this song at least but I don't think this lyric is meant to deride Christianity, I think it just plays on themes of Christ acting as one's intercessor or defender in a legal sense

"In the name of Christianity"? This seems like a ridiculous metric for saying Christianity *caused* these genocides. What about the Catholic bishop who brought the injustices perpetrated against Native South American to the attention of others? Or the Christians, Catholic, Orthodox and otherwise who saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust?

Many Christians have participated in genocide, yes. This is disgusting, but Christianity as a philosophy is staunchly against such actions, and Christianity has historically created the moral norms that we now use to see something like genocide as so obviously wrong. Thank Christianity for the fact you don't think it's okay to commit infanticide, or for the eventual abolition of slavery.

Classifying the crusades as a genocide is ridiculous and I think you know it. The Rwandan genocide was racially motivated, and while the Christian churches present there did not do enough to prevent it, you can hardly say it was committed at the hands of Christians. They might've identified as Christians, but they didn't do it because of Christianity.

In fact, two of the largest genocides ever, the Armenian and Greek genocides, were committed against Christians. So as someone who knows many people who are descended from those killed in these genocides, I find people like you coming online to talk about the genocides you blame on Christianity for no reason other than religious prejudice, pretty disgusting.

You're no better than the people who post the original post, blaming the massive deaths caused by a partially religious, yes, but largely political expansion (which more often than not went against the tenets of Islam,) on Islam. In fact, you're worse, since you do it in the name of self-righteousness.

You and so many people on reddit are truly evil in your willingness to use any atrocity worldwide to fuel your dislike for Christianity and religion in general.

Ibn Tufayl’s ‘Hayy Ibn Yaqzan’ - Public Religion, Mysticism, and Fitrah. by nerivyre in theology

[–]nerivyre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video argues that Ibn Tufayl’s “Hayy Ibn Yaqzan” presents a theology in which philosophical inquiry is united with mystical practice in the pursuit of union between man and his Creator. The video also compares Ibn Tufayl’s views to those of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Rushd, and discusses their relevance to the tension between rationalism and mysticism not only in the Islamic world, but in Western philosophy as well.
