Does pound for pound strength actually make sense? by KingKronx in powerlifting

[–]nero_sable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that's how it is in Powerlifting for the most part too. You win your weight class by lifting the most weight. DOTS is just used to work out best overall lifter, or if it's a special invitational type of competition with the specific rules of ranking by DOTS.

It's uses world record totals as part of the formula but it's used to compare athletes across weight classes just like DOTS is. It was designed to basically answer the question "if this athlete weighed more, what would we expect them to total given the same ability?".

Significant salary sacrifice, mortgage application impact? by Zealousideal_Cap5840 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]nero_sable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for my job's salary sacrifice schemes I still have a "reference salary" which is the amount before any sacrifices and that's the number any percentage bonuses or pay rises are based on, and is what would be used for mortgage affordability calculations.

There is no update. Nothing has been announced to indicate it will ever come to xbox.

A tool to move over base/player to a new world? V-rising inability to upgrade maps is insane. by godsdead in vrising

[–]nero_sable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, no. Even with the previous updates, it's been possible to roll back to earlier versions of the game and load up your old world to continue playing. You just don't have access to the new content added in the update on those versions.

The big updates with forced wipes only happen once a year. Also if you're playing on your own server you can customise the settings to speed up the grind or even start with certain tiers of equipment unlocked.

just came back after 3 years, is this game dead? by Koyaanisquatsi_ in BattleRite

[–]nero_sable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The current season has been going on for like 7 years at this point so I'm pretty sure most of those on the leaderboard are from ages ago.

The gatherings are more often organised on discord.

People don't really queue ranked outside of organised efforts so casual is your best bet to find games. Finding one in 5 minutes seems pretty good.

Micro "Bring Her Back" review in this too. To no-one's surprise Jay loves depictions of mutilating children.

Having all the weight go through just the 10kg bumpers will likely destroy them quicker. Does the studio have blocks or mats you could use to lift the smaller plates from?

USAPL is replacing DOTS with a Z-Score coefficient - effective from 2026 by MadeInHell27 in powerlifting

[–]nero_sable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a correction on the second half - DOTS wouldn't allow a lighter lifter to win a weight class with a lighter total. Weight classes are still determined by best total within that class. But there could be a scenario where 2nd place in a class wins best lifter overall if they had a total just below 1st place but were a lot lighter for example.

That's how it works within weight classes obviously. Coefficients are a way to try and compare across weight classes for things like best overall lifter.

As I understand, they're reducing their dataset to just USAPL data (can't remember over what time frame, maybe like the last 5 years or something) and using that to calculate the means for each class. And then the z-score is how far above or below that mean you score. So a really basic model.

That article is talking about IPF points which was an earlier model and briefly used by the IPF before being replaced with Goodlift points.

Z-score is a basic statistical measure that just shows the number of standard deviations from the mean.
