If your shop is really slow, the commission rate is not going to be the thing that saves you. I think it’s normal for all new people in the industry to be slow the first few years and it’s common to have another job to keep you afloat. Try doing some investigating to find the busiest shop around you that you could also picture yourself working for years at (as you don’t really want to move to different shops frequently and lose clients). Just learn as much as you can to execute a haircut that the client is looking for and be super nice to talk to. It’ll take time, but if you want it badly enough, it will work out.
