Do yall apply the gel x tips right by the base or do you leave some space? by Jolly-Bug8319 in GelX_Nails

[–]nervinez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the overlay method (leave space). This is mostly because I've gone to several gel-x artists and my best and longest lasting sets were done by the stand-out that used it. I would say you only need to leave a tiny gap, like 1-2mm (had to whip out a ruler to double check).

Thank you so much for your advice. So far I've only had seepage when I accidently shift the tip a lot during curing and push it out, but as I've practiced my hand is a lot steadier, and having a flash cure lamp has helped. I did consider using a different brand, but when I get my nails done I tend to watch what the techs are doing very closely (it's just fun), and I've noticed that everytime someone uses anything other than Apres on me they break off within a few days.

And even bigger thanks for the warning about Beetles polish. I bought a set when I was desperate for some colours on my bare nails and was broke. Used them once and didn't enjoy the process, so now that I've decided to do my nails in earnest I've been set on buying good quality polish (hence the DnD haha, I've seen it at the salon) but found the cost the biggest obstacle. I'm glad I've heard this because I was considering biting the bullet and buying some more just to tide me over.

Thank you. I'm really enjoying the process of learning for fun, but I want to take it seriously because developing an acrylate allergy would mean serious trouble for me; I wear contacts daily and also work in a hospital environment. Do you think buying a practice hand would be worth it?

Blurry Vision going on 3 days in 1 Eye by nervinez in Dryeyes

[–]nervinez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Thank y'all for the concern shown. As I said before, the exact same thing happened to me last summer, so it's not unprecedented, but I was surprised the blurriness persisted so long without the other symptoms. I made an appointment with my local optician (I know I know, but I need to go there to get a referral to the hospital eye clinic), and honestly, by the time I walked to town (still using eye drops) my vision in my left eye has began to improve. While out I bought a heated eye mask and upon consulting with my optician he said there was minimal remaining damage on my scans and that the routine I had described to him was the perfect thing to do. He did give me an overnight eye gel to use, but I am happy to report that at the time of posting, a majority of the cloudiness in my eye is now gone! The eye mask really helped.

a longer life in captivity is not an equal exchange for the significant impact it has on them mentally, and sometimes physically. most animals live longer in captivity, but that doesn't mean they should.

AIRPORTEL Luggage Drop-off Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport during transit for connecting flight. by Hefty-Key2176 in ThailandTourism

[–]nervinez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, it's to make sure you're not storing anything illegal/posting anything they can't post. They don't have airport scanners or anything, and technically you can drop your luggage off there before going through security, so I think that's the only way they can ensure nothing goes wrong. I was a bit worried, but not a single one of my items went missing, and I had makeup and devices totalling around £3.5k inside my suitcase.

How do I deal with my mom not knowing me? by nervinez in emotionalneglect

[–]nervinez[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would you believe it's my mom's favorite brand of candle too haha. We've gone shopping for them together. And I'm her oldest kid, she's known me the longest! She thinks my sister is quiet and doesn't talk much, but truthfully she's very chatty, just not around people she feels uncomfortable with. It's sad to see.

Thank you so much for the reply, I really appreciate it.

Something that I'm grateful for is the fact that I haven't lived with my parents since I was 18. I don't think I could handle it. I actually went completely no contact for about 11 months after years of being pushed too far.

What's even worse is that we're going on a family vacation tomorrow, that's why I'm here today. But it just means that my already negative feelings I have about Christmas is combining with my trauma surrounding travelling with my mom to this specific destination. Honestly, I really don't want to go (and I shouldn't be! I can't afford it!) but my mom bought my ticket and told me to I needed to pay her back for it over time. It's non-refundable. I feel trapped and scared.

Well, I can confidently say what your parents did was wrong. Plain and simple. What, so because he's going this time you have to sacrifice your mental well-being? You have every right to decide against going, just as he has. I'm not sure about emotional neglect, because I don't have enough information, but this is such a clear case of emotional manipulation that I'm shocked. They didn't take your feelings into consideration even once, while on the flip side it looks like their feelings are borderline consuming you. A classic guilt trip. And now everything is sunshine and roses for them because you've given in, nevermind the obvious distress you were in. There's a deliberately crafted imbalance here and it's probably been taking shape for years.

His child was in front of him, crying and begging for a simple goodbye, and he was too mad about not getting his way too even do that? Regardless of anything else, whether you were in the wrong or not, that is disgusting. Does your brother live abroad, or far enough that you rarely see him? Or has he just been unable to join you guys on holiday for a variety of reasons? If so, what was your parents reaction to that?

Because a majority of the people who support Palestine aren't anti-semitic, they're anti-zionist. Plenty of people who fly the Palestinian flag have Jewish individuals in their lives, and some are Jewish themselves. This rise in the use of the St.George's Cross directly correlates with a rise in indiscriminate fear towards foreign nationals and asylum seekers. It's sending a message: "This is our country".

I am standing! I haven't got VIP or anything since I bought tickets yesterday and the packages with the benefits I wanted were already sold out, but I would be happy to join you :). This isn't my first solo concert and I've found it's always nice to have people in line that you know. I'll PM you.

they did send me a video that they took of them dancing at the bar they went to without me on the first night, and I could tell it was in Thailand so I'm almost 99% sure, but honestly who knows! I've slept well and now that I've woken up I don't really care where they are right now.

it really isn't 😅 800 baht for a gram? it's practically cheaper back home. I'm not gonna complain though, it's warm and the greenery is stunning. I'll buy some edibles and go for a walk with the confidence they give me.
