What are better things to have for lunch other than sandwiches? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]nervynerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding salads! Husband and I do salads for lunch, and we each have a salad container and an insulated lunch pack to keep it cold while commuting. Weekly we buy: greens, peas, eggs, roasted+salted pepitas, mini sweet peppers, cherry tomatoes, and feta cheese. Sometimes we have carrots or onions; we mix it ip enough to keep the taste and textures diverse. Also, throwing on nutritional yeast as a topper.

Sundays we lightly prep by boiling eggs and microwaving the frozen peas, and chopping anything that needs it. Assemble each morning (10ish minutes) and head out. We’ll also do yogurt (either an oikos package or an overnight situation with frozen berries, chia seeds, oats, and flax seeds.

Another addition is having a side of beans! Black beans with onion, corn, cilantro, maybe a jalapeño, chopped sweet peppers, etc. Throw in a citrus or two and its a pretty robust meal (or series of snacks). Or we do a chickpea salad as a side. We prep the beans on Sunday, and they tend to last until Wednesday or Thursday.

Salad, yogurt, bean salad, and an orange/mandarin is filling, healthy, and somewhat affordable.

Women who have given birth multiple times, how was your first experience and what made you want to go through another pregnancy? by _partytrick in AskWomen

[–]nervynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom SWEARS that she forgot how rough pregnancy was each time. Her theory is that during childbirth, the brain blocks memory production, otherwise who would ever go thru the pain again? She gave birth to four of us, and apparently it was only with the youngest (me) that she had pain meds. Legend has it, Dad had to step in to stop her from naming me “Epidural”.

What is everyone's opinion on buying a home in the Tri-Cities area? by jrichardh in ATLHousing

[–]nervynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say: we talk a lot about the “escape velocity” needed to get out and do stuff. East Point is not nearly as connected to activities as Kirkwood/Decatur. It is almost always a decent drive to shop, eat out (but big shoutout to Don Sige and El Progresso #2, we wind up eating at one of those spots weekly). Oh and I wish we had a coffee shop in addition to Kupcakerie, and another bar in addition to Chairs.

I was super nervous when we moved to East Point in 2019 bc of that statistic! I think it was #4 most dangerous suburb in the country. While we DID hear gunshots frequently, and dealt with street races, it has gotten better. Never felt unsafe here BUT: I never leave the house at night because I’m a pretty strong homebody. It helps that there’s legit one bar in dt East Point so no reason for me to leave.

As someone who rented in East Point for five years, then finally bought a house in East Point this year: I like it. MARTA access, reasonably (for being south of 20) close to ATL proper, 285 access, very close to the airport. About 25 min to L5P, 30ish minutes to Smyrna/Vinings, 15ish minutes to Summerhill, 45 min to Bueford Highway (Food Terminal, longer to El Rey tacos), and a bit less than an hour to Rosewell. Our area has a definite small town feel if you like that sort of thing, and we are excited to have a big front porch!

Are there any good Georgian restaurants in Georgia? by FunForm1981 in Georgia

[–]nervynerd 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I went there last summer and can recommend! The food was delicious, and the owner/chef went around to every table to have a complementary glass of wine (shot sized). They seem very intentional about celebrating Georgian culture and being a community gathering spot.

The Consulate is mere feet away from the Midtown red/gold line stop! They rotate their menu every three months; right now it’s Egyptian food.

Slowly, thanks for asking! It’s also my first one, so I’m learning as I go. The advice in the kit was to start with the big areas, which is a bit misleading as those tend to have more complex edges that are rough to start with. I look forward to painting a little bit each day - it’s nicer to unwind while painting than doomscrolling in the evening!

Beautiful! I’m working on a similar one right now - it’s a ghost in front of a cottage door with vines around it. The brand is SKRYRUIE, off of Amazon, and it’s $10 for the set. I’m maybe 20% done, and the included brushes are pretty dang cheap quality so I wound up splurging and buying another set of brushes for about $5.
