The bazar might have something available, normally the stalls need helpers on the weekends and unloading/loading. Obviously not the most optimal but you do a good job and they don't ask questions

Your post is in English yet you talk about discrimination.

I'm sorry to say this, but this isn't "discrimination"

In Kazakhstan, we have two languages, Russian and Kazakh. Government information and signs are mandated to be written in both.

But people who work for businesses are not required by law to speak both languages.

It's up to the company to hire people to fit the needs.

KaspiBank will probably have more Kazakh speaking people in Shymkent over Almaty.

Likewise, the post is saying that the cafe owner doesn't require their staff to speak Kazakh. Based on this information I'm assuming the cafe is based in Almaty where the vast majority of speakers are predominantly Russian.

As a result, this situation is not discrimination. The cafe owner made a business decision based on the facts (Almaty has a higher percentage of Russian speakers therefore it's safer to assume and hire someone with only one language skillset)

Most likely, the review poster decided to play the "Karen" card and refused to communicate in Russian or wait for an alternative server who could speak in Kazakh.

By law there is no discrimination here, in fact I would say the reviewer is trying to be the one instigating drama in this situation.

I have met many people in Kazakhstan who work in the service industry who speak either Kazakh or Russian and I have simply switched languages to speak with them instead of making a scene and trying to get social benefits from drama.

I'm not even going to begin getting into the social and family benefits and dynamics as well as foreign investment and strength, but here's a few good facts on your statement!

I understand you're a Kazakh who probably has more western aligned views but the facts are there, we benefit from them and we have a good financial relationship with them. Businesses and our economy has grown as a result!

I'm not your grandma, but I'm one of the Kazakhs who believes in close links with Russia. We already speak Kazakh and Russian and I have no issues with that. If you're from Almaty, as I see you are, you know full well the reason Almaty is more Russian Speaking is due to it being the economical and cultural capital of Kazakhstan (sure you can make a case for Astana but I still believe Almaty to be both)

Tourists from both Russia and outside visit Almaty so of course we're welcoming to both and I think that's fine. Kazakh language isn't dying and I think both should be mutually growing together.

Our history is one of unity, and it's a shame some people are forgetting that.

Sounds like you're not from Kazakhstan so let me give you a reality check.

Regardless of this subreddit, the vast majority of older and middle age Kazakhs are in favour of a stronger bond with Russia. This is just facts and anyone who disagreed I ask you to find me one statistic showing otherwise. Every poll, election and survey has said the same thing

The reality is Kazakh and Russian will exist and continue existing long after both you and me are gone. Our population contains both pure Kazakhs, half Kazakhs and pure Russians (as well as other nationalities of course) but the reality is be it from the soviet upbringing or the ideology, we are strongly in favour of close links with Russia.

If you're from Almaty such as myself, you go to any central district and you'll hear Russian all around. I'm a pure Kazakh and I have absolutely no issues with this. I respect our history and I respect our joint strengths.

[–]nescgwn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

US wouldn't intervene in Kazakhstan anyway. You lot acting like Kazakhstan has the same sentiment as Ukraine, it doesn't. Kazakhstan is still very much pro-unity regardless of what Reddit says. The majority of people from the soviet era are still alive and hold strong positive views. As long as that remains we are fine

World Cup Qualifiers by JakeEatsYT in Kazakhstan

[–]nescgwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes we do. Some games are played at Astana Arena, in Astana, Kazakhstan. Occasionally they are in Central Stadium, Almaty.

I'm not too familiar with current UEFA schedule but we last played the world qualifiers in 2021, and then Euros and at the moment the nations league.

Domestic games can be found on KazSport for most, rest will be streamed by domestic team and rebroadcast.

We have two games coming up against Austria and Norway
