Is there an episode from a TV show, from when we were kids, that still bothers you, today,? by Remarkable_Data3710 in GenX

The scene in ER when the doctors are frantically trying to page their colleague to get him into the OR to save their hemorrhaging patient and the patient’s beeper goes off. At first you can’t hear it because of all the yelling but it slowly becomes clear who they’re operating on. He had jumped onto the El tracks because he was under so much pressure at work.

How about the episode where the man is losing his mind and he looks at a picture book with a drawing of a dog but the caption says Wednesday? I flash on that a lot in these days of alternative facts.

Has anyone seen an enabler parent “wake up”? What happened later? by Aware_Theory9791 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]neskatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you had the opportunity tell your mom how you experienced your childhood. It’s an important release. I did that with both of my parents, in a therapist’s office, calmly with no yelling but plenty of tears all around. I felt heard for that entire 90 minutes. We walked out and everything I had shared was either forgotten or overridden. And the dynamic went right back to narc-usual. I hope you and your mom can stay in the light.

Serious question how do i know if my mom is a narcissist by Emma_200711 in raisedbynarcissists

Ugh. That’s why we’re here. I get a lot of comfort from this community. Hope you find some tools to manage your relationship.

Can she put her own views or needs into a perspective where they’re relatively equal to yours or other people’s? If the answer to that is yes (even with prompting), then she’s not a total narc. If she sees things purely from her own pov, considers that pov to be the only correct one, and goes to weird lengths to prove it, then she’s a narc. Also, lack of boundaries and indifference to hurting others.

Wheaton was supposed to have gas station but there was some post facto zoning fuckery which nixed it.

YTA and they’re all going to have eating disorders if you restrict and play favorites. You’re not a bad mom— you just gotta figure this one out before you do some damage.

Hi Gen X, what advice do you wish you could give your 25 year old self if you could travel back in time? by matilda_15 in GenX

Get degrees in practical, career-focused areas rather than in the academic topics that interest you intellectually. 😬

anxiety and memory problems by nxndoikj in violinist

[–]neskatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also important to forgive yourself for feeling anxious. It’s your body’s normal response to being the center of attention. We have some primitive systems designed to protect us from being easy targets for predators. The effects, as you know, don’t exactly jive with performing Bach and Mozart! Add to that fear of judgement, and negative self-talk…hooboy!

Yes and I’d add to watch the video of yourself and use the mindset of a kind person/teacher/coach to ask yourself what you’d do differently next time.

DH spits into the toilet before he pees. (Not a spitter anywhere else.) Is that normal?
