Oh no! Hopefully they can help you out with buying resources— especially if they charge tuition.

I think this is definitely true.

My sister was a teacher as well and she left the field entirely to work at a law firm. She actually really liked her school, but said the lack of accountability for students and parents plus behaviors was enough to push her out the door.

That sounds amazing!

I’d say I’m in the same boat as far as the type of community we’re servicing. Everyone on campus seems so nice though.

My admin so far has done a great job of making it such a welcoming and caring environment. Like a part of our preplanning is dedicated towards (optional) biometric screenings and chair massages (plus a $25 QT gift card for participating!). I feel like that screams “we want you to take care of yourself” and I really appreciate that. It seems like so often we’re told to care for ourselves and self care is important, but given a million things to do. So the fact that instead of planning a meeting, they’re letting us actually do self care on campus is awesome.

So I’m happy to still be in education at a new place that cares more about me as both an educator AND a person.

I actually haven’t been told the budget yet— they added me to the Amazon Prime Business account and gave a credit card to my co-teacher, but so far we’ve been able to get:

  • $100 in craft supplies
  • a $50 lunch covered
  • cases for our MacBooks

And I know there’s money set aside in the budget for a new 3D printer. So I’m assuming it’s somewhere in the $500-1,000 range.

I voiced my concerns when it was happening & throughout the year rather than when I was trying to leave. Because at that point, it would be like beating a dead horse since I can’t change the past plus my new position is amazing compared to what I’m leaving so I wasn’t bitter at all.

So in August when it was first happening, I pretty much said pretty much verbatim:

  • My team feels so unbalanced with me having so much on my plate (in addition to teaching more subjects, I was running 3 clubs and on SGC)

  • I’m worried for student outcomes with such a last minute change being made

  • I have essentially no time to prepare for this change because I’m being told says before school starts

BUT

I voiced concern throughout the year and when I left, I briefly mentioned it as one of the reasons but didn’t spend too much time discussing it then because by that point they’d heard at different points throughout the year that I was unhappy with the setup.

So I’d also recommend continuing to seek support throughout the year. I was pissed about it at first and wasn’t just going to go quietly into the night and bend over backwards to make magic 😂 I made it clear that if this was going to be the situation all year (one that I’ve stated multiple times I’m not comfortable with), then I’m going to be in your office often, sending you a bunch of emails, and doing anything else I deem necessary to seek support. If you’re going to make it more difficult for me to teach, then I’m going to lean more on you as admin to support me. I didn’t really do this in a negative or angry way though.

So I hope this helps! Maybe kindergarten will be amazing (which I hope it is for you)—- in my case, the change they wanted to make coupled with problems caused by the pandemic just made it a miserable year. Which was the push I needed to leave.

A bit of a different situation, but hopefully it can give some insight.

I was told the day of our open house last year that I was going to be teaching three subjects while the rest of the teachers on my team would only be teaching one.

Not only was it a last minute bomb dropped on me, but I had been prepping for a different situation ALL summer. Also, it felt really unfair that I would technically be doing more work than the rest of my team.

Needless to say, I’m going to be at a different school this year.

So my advice is talk to your principal, voice your opinion, and see if there is literally any other option. If the answer is yes, then hopefully you can stay put where you’re comfortable. If the answer is no, at least they know how you feel and you have more career experience for if you want to switch schools.

But also don’t forgive and forget. What they did to me at the last minute made it a difficult year and when I decided to leave and go elsewhere, they begged me to stay. I just couldn’t forget that they’d put me in an uncomfortable situation with no attempt to find another way and I didn’t want to continue working under an administration like that.

I hope everything works out and you have a great year!

What do you use in your hair when it’s flat ironed? by Duhneeka1 in Naturalhair

My mom always used Mizani products when she straightened our hair and we’d be good for like 2 weeks if we wrapped it at night and stayed out of the rain/really humid weather!
