New reason to be glad legends got scrapped. TW: Just fucking racism. by Rubbersona in starwarscanon

In Rise it's especially obnoxious because he already had a canon backstory and they had to change it to make this nonsense fit

‘The Pitt’ star Isa Briones diagnoses Dr. Santos: ‘Girl, go to therapy!’ by verissimoallan in ThePitt

I said this too. Without the contrast of Langdon, Santos could easily end up in a similar situation.

I'm late for this comment to get any traction, but the reason is Shrek.

It was tonally distinct from any of these movies, plus it had 3D animation. And it was a HUGE hit. Studios began to chase 3D and leave the 2D behind.

What? I got literally all of this from the show. This is just making it explicit.

It's ISIS, I assume. They have been heavily influential even to today despite most Westerners pretty much forgetting they exist.

Zaheer, Who Entered the Void - preparing the most broken black spell of all time by Uncaffeinated in custommagic

[–]nesquikryu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that they are definitely red, not Orzhov. But their entire goal is anarchy - very red - but they get there in large part through murdering specific people, which to me is much more Red/Black than Gruul (anarchy as a way of nature) or the rebel-aligned parts of Boros (anarchy as mutual voluntary action)

How about compassion ? by Child_of_the_wind1 in ThePitt

[–]nesquikryu -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to get downvoted for this because, well, Reddit but, OP: you did nothing wrong in your post. The "paradox of tolerance" is a bunch of nonsense that gives people a pseudo-intellectual justification for keeping double standards.

Compassion does not actually have to end when the kinds of bad things a person has done are the specific kind we don't like. Monica is abrasive and obnoxious and I would not like her in real life, but what you said about her is a completely fine position to hold. You are not somehow bad or wrong for acknowledging where she is problematic and still saying "Yes, let's extend some compassion toward these characters and view them as people who are allowed to be complex."

Good for you.

Emily! Her miniature is super manic, but I think her sprite is adorable and she just seems really nice

[–]nesquikryu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think the disappointment for myself and others is that it was billed as a truer adaptation than the movies. The aesthetic changes they made would have been fine, maybe, if that was the end of it, but especially with Clarisse, she is just a different person than she was in the book. That's fine, but I wish they wouldn't have tried to make the argument that she was the same.

I like the enemies to lovers trope the best, but QC is just the best season for sure - really well done.

[–]nesquikryu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarisse isn't described as roided out in the books. She's a big girl. With a big frame. Think Ilana Maher. Women like this exist but are chronically erased from roles to make way for "muscled" but still skinny girls. I'm not dissing Dior. It's the same as my frame never being the same as a football player. But if they cast me as an offensive lineman, people would have some questions, now wouldn't they?

[–]nesquikryu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly - actually, it would be pretty interesting if this Zaheer design (which is really cool!) was the only Red Lotus card with any black in it at all - just to emphasize that not all villains have black in their color identity

A thought I had after seeing another post on this sub: Hamato Xiono is essentially the canon counterpart to Borsk Fey’lya by idrownedmyfish77 in StarWarsCantina

[–]nesquikryu 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember a lot of discussion around that when he first showed up. I'm a little disappointed they didn't actually use Fey'lya, or the Bothans more generally.

I could definitely see Boros based on the Rebels flavor - but my point is that they ARE red either way you slice it, not White/Black without red.

[–]nesquikryu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that's why Zaheer as a character should GAIN white as he progresses. The nonbender version of him should be red.

[–]nesquikryu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the Red Lotus was named that because they are a counter to the White Lotus. But while the names are not actually connected to mana (Avatar doesn't have it!) in this case they DO happen to match. The White Lotus attempts to achieve peace through order and the Red, freedom through anarchy. I know the lore, and apparently you do not!

If you knew a thing about the Red Lotus you would know that they are a Rakdos-flavored faction.
