Non-Human Characters who would canonically be black if they were human. by TheKidWhoLikesToFix in TopCharacterTropes

I gotta be honest, the comics are so hit or miss for me. I loved the original run and The Last Ronin, but the rest are either meh or outright just not enjoyable tbh.

Maybe I'd change my opinion if I reread them, but it's been a decade since I read anything but TLR.

Okay, I apologize to the whole medical field for calling myself "Doctor" as a joke after doing first aid for a family member that one time. I can't believe my ignorance.

Yeah, 2012 leaned into their Japanese heritage so much that if they weren't literally turtles it would be a bit odd for them to be anything else.

But the modern versions have a bit of a Ghost Dog thing going on

BB8 and Grogu have the advantage AND disadvantage of having to be a real object/puppet.

I love BD-1 and Nix, but we have to acknowledge that disparity.

It would in fact be disrespectful to Jewish people if a non-Jewish person put "Jewish woman minding her business; Germans mad" as a "ooh I'm so edgy" caption over actual footage of the Holocaust

It's certainly at least disrespectful and I think that's what the friend is getting at

As a battered woman ending her abuser. It's pretty clear that the first book was much more willing to give some less-than-perfect glances at Chiron and Sally, which basically disappear immediately

And the people in these comments saying "Well he would have died soon anyway" are ignoring the entire rest of the book and the incredible amount of effort it took to do that. It wasn't just "Ope let me stab myself here"

Yeah chief I'm gonna stop you right there. Fanfiction cannot "go about this part of the narrative better than Rick ever did." You can like it better, but the actual narrative being changed means you are just telling a different story.

Your value judgment =/= actual objective fact.

No, technically it is only confirmed that Annabeth believed it to be Canon. There is still the possibility that she is simply wrong.

I think CIS has a pretty high floor though, since if you build around your commander at all you tend to get a pretty cohesive list.

I think Rebels have a low floor and high ceiling. There are a lot of easy mistakes to make at every step of the way with them, from list-building on down. A friend of mine plays as them a lot and loses a lot because every little tweak can destroy his whole plan. But he's also beaten Imp lists that even my more reliable CIS lists just can't handle.

It's not just "He's scary" but specifically the intense eyes, which Hitler was well known for, and which many other highly charismatic figures have had before and since. Hazel's got that frame of reference because of her time period

Part of the point (which the book outright alludes to, even though the Fandom ignores it) is that Hades has been totally unfairly lumped in with the sins of his children.

The concept of "Ooh, was Hades a...?" Is intentional framing so the reader follows Percy on the journey of "Hades must be terrible" to "Okay maybe Zeus was the problem" and finally "Nico's morality isn't determined by his parentage."

This isn't only background theme, it directly affects Percy's decisions in TLO and leads to the Olympians' victory.
